Clayton Orgles is an Australian horror director with a focus on psychological depth, showcasing the dark interplay between character fixations and human nature. Clayton's venture into film has been characterised by a series of shorts that explore complex characters and their intricate narratives: "Disenthrall" (2019), "Dissociation" (2023), "Disconnect" (2023). According to the original adaptation, the writer do manage to get out of the house, escaping himself from the blood. But here, not only you gender-swapped the main character, I like how you cut short the story, make us wonder whether she'll get out alive sanely or not

Sooo apparently this is supposed to be a rendition of ‘picture in the house’ but the ending is different…I’m confused about the ending. So she’s supposed to be from his past? Who was she to him? I’m so confused

I can see how that might be confusing on first watch! Yes, our version has a different ending. We cast the same actor as both the haunting figure and the genealogist to show the genealogist as a reincarnation. This symbolises an unresolved conflict, which resolves when he finally gets what he always wanted: a puppet to do his bidding. We wanted to add this element as fresh twist to the story. Why would they do that? A great many horror stories are based on Lovecraft's works (mainly Cthulhu Mythos/Dagon stuff - but certainly not exclusively) - and I don't believe I've seen any yet that haven't been proud to share their inspiration or source material!

@@orlandoromero22 If you go to 4:58 and slow down the playback you can see it. So she has her butt to the fire and the lightning strikes. Just to the left of the window, where it looks foggy, you will see it with the strike.

Another sorry adaptation of a Lovecraft story. This could have been done much better. Some of what you need to know is only in the description and the appearance of the mysterious young couple at the beginning and the ending makes zero sense. Nor are there even close to a few hints as to anything about them.
