Growing up my elderly neighbour Stan would help me by fixing my bike up. (brakes and handlebars ect) recently i noticed his headlights were absolutely useless. As he drives an old car and they were oxidised. I decided to help him out wet sand them and polish them then add a uv protectant they came out perfect and he was chuffed with it. Now he can get around during the night safely.

A friend of mine gave me a call, stating that a friend could offer - free of charge - his cars for my wedding, which was in the Madeira Island, in Portugal. I went to his home, and the choice of between a beautiful maintained Mercedes-Benz W203, or a bright red Toyota Land Cruiser. My wife choose the W203, as it was quite easier to get in and out with the dress. I was quite embarrassed for not paying back the man - especially after speaking with him, as he is a great man. After leaving his home my mind was set: I had to offer him the best detailing products I owned to thank him. I sent the products to him, and my friend deliver to him a document with the instructions I wrote on how to apply each product. The man loved it! Still to this day we chat, and he sends me pictures of the cars after he cleans them 😀 It is absolutely great.

Thanks for the video as always Jon. My detailing story: A good friend of mine who owned a white R32 Nissan Skyline had his car in for the (typical Japanese) rusty inner arches done. A couple of weeks afterwards and the entire car came up in a case of the measles - it was from being in the workshop, it had been spattered with metal grinder debris embedding it in the paintwork on every panel along one side and had started to rust. The car was due to be part of a wedding - all white GTRs for the then owner of the GTR Owners club - a R34, R33 and my mates R32 - and had to look it's best. I hadn't long got into detailing and we managed to get the car back up together and gleaming with my recent discovery of clay bars (was the old Meguiars system you used to get in Halfords)

We moved into my mums old house, redecorated the entire house but being ex-council it has a few quirks. The bathroom only has a few rows of tiles and the rest is paint, we repainted the walls a nice blue, but whenever we use the shower and water gets on the walls it's staining them and pulling it off. I'd not long bought some turtle wax original hard shell liquid wax and reading the bottle it claims 101 uses and safe for all paint types, so I've thought about it. Gently waxing the paint on the walls and they're nice and protected, the paint can't get stained if the water can't stick to it. My partner thought I was mental waxing the walls but worked a treat 👌

The best use of detailing products I got was... In the bathroom. Last year I purchase a new home for my family, and the bathtub was quite different from what I and my family member were used to, coupled with the fact that it was old. By applying polish, I was able to bring back the shine on the faucet. I used a water spot remover, I was able to clean the minerals stuck all over. With a good APC, I was able to clean every corner of that place. All the surrounding 25 year old ceramic came back shining by using a steam cleaner. Lastly, I applied a ceramic coating to the entire surroundings, as well as a rain repellent on the windows. It has been over a year, and that bathtub still shines, especially because it does not have to deal with the extreme conditions cars do on the outside.

I use the Glaco Compound and DX for the glass surround on our shower cubicle. Living on the South Coast, the water is hard and leaves calcium deposits easily. The Glaco beads off most of the water reducing spotting and make cleaning it very easy, especially when using diluted spirit vinegar. Thanks for the video, Jon! 👍

My elderly neighbour whilst chatting told me they were going to spend £6000 on new windows and back door due to the plastic frames looking all yellow and stained but the double glazed glass was fine. I Asked if they mined if I could clean them for them. Cleaned the glass and frames with a surface surfactant and then used Autoglym bumper care on the white frames. Came up a treat and stopped them from spending thousands from they're stretched pension pot. What did I charge,,? Two strong coffees and a couple of hob knobs. Nice to be nice.

For heavily contaminated wheels where the crud just doesn't shift after a heavy alkaline & fallout remover combination, I always reach for wheel acid. I tend to be careful in how I apply it & spray into a brush before spreading it over the alloy. This helps avoid the chance of damage to calipers/wheel caps you mentioned & will shift the stubborn stuff with ease. I rarely need to use it but it's a must have in the arsenal for neighbours cars mainly. With regards to detailing knowledge, after moving into our first house 2 years ago we had the kitchen floor tiled with grey gloss ceramic tiles. The cleaning of the excess grouting by mopping marred the tiles heavily. Very noticeable in certain lights so I broke out the flex & some compound, brought them back to perfection over several weeks a couple tiles at a time, the mrs was thrilled 👌

My cousin came over from the Middle East, and some young kids had pranged his hire car with a football. So he arrived at mine with a fair amount of scuffing / scratches. So I washed off the panel, and fired in about it with my Meguires DA and two stages of Mezerna polishing. The only problem afterwards was that there was a nice clean and shiny panel, compared to the rest of the car. No visible scratches left at all (well without a very close inspection anyway). I can't imagine what the hire company might have charged him for that, but 30-40 mins of my time and a bit of knowledge saved the day there. Otherwise I'd imagine the hire car company would have wanted 3 figures for that.

I had bad rust stains from a boiler vent that had soaked into the exterior upvc kitchen window frame. Nothing seemed to touch it and it covered half the frame and sill. Specialist upvc cleaner, general houshold cleaners or even abrasive cleaners etc.bleach would damage the surface and matt the plastic. The window specialist said the only way he could get rid of the staining was to fit a new window but it would do the same in the next year or 2 and cost would be over £1000! Having bought some fallout wheel cleaner and seeing how well it removed dirt and rust stains from wheels, I wondered if the rust shrinking properties would work on the window? Glad to say it worked a treat! The guy who specialises in upvc renovations was also so impressed he now carrys a bottle of fuso fallout remover and wheel cleaner in the van for exactly the same purpose as removing rust stains from old upvc was one of the most common but hard to get good results jobs he had call outs on! Now its a 5 minute job for him and happy customers. We didnt expect it to work so well and a quick spritz of paint sealer twice a year has kept it looking like it should!

Recently, I used my usual paint correction combo to correct the paint on an old dishwasher that used to be in my work's kitchen and hadn't worked for months. My boss was going to throw it into the metal scrap skip but I rescued it, took it home, got it serviced and fully detailed it. The hardest part of the job was carrying and balancing it over my head for nearly two miles, as it won't go into the boot of my little old Peugeot. Two lessons learned here - Firstly, Mercedes-Benz Arctic White is a perfect match for touching-up dishwashers, and secondly, dishwasher paintwork is single-stage. It is not clear coated.

Surfex HD at 5% agitated with a soft detailing brush, hoovered out with a couple of layers of a microfiber cloth held taught over the hoover hose to capture any dirt / dampness without getting into the hoover did the job just nicely.

I remember my dad buying his brand new Vauxhall Astra Coupe SE2 finished in Europa blue. The car had been the model in the showroom on display as it was quite a rare model, the garage had one of those wire coated metal price holders that they had rested on the cars roof, this had obviously been moved around while cleaning or knocked and created lots of tiny scratches on the roof. I had only just got into detailing at the time and I managed to sucessfully use my Meguiars G220 polisher to machine polish out the small scratches on the roof. My dad was over the moon as he didn't trust taking it back to the garage for them to sort.

I went completely outside the box on this one. Recently bought a Range Rover sport the previous owner had used chemical metal(of sorts). To stick the silver trim on the side steps however it had also gone all over the wing. By using the carb cleaner to freeze the “guey mess”. I was able to use the plastic lid as a scraper and remove this completely. After a buff and polish the wing is back looking like new :)

Knowing that you are a big Bilthamber user. Does it compare to this soft 99 lineup? I have tested so much, and I keep coming back to Korrosol, auto wheel, and Surfex HD. I buy bulk minimal 5l of all products, does it compare also on the cost effectiveness? And to answer your question, I am 90% close to your methode but also use acid for the worst case scenarios. Today, I cleaned up some stainless steel units and had some mild surface rust. Fallout remover worked great with some wire wool and lifted 90% off. Alkaly based APC, I use it on everything at home, from cleaning windows and frames to deep clean carpets and kitchen appliances. The big plus point using Alkaly cleaner I.e Surfex, is that it is safe for the environment and fine to use in cesspits.

I’ve found my detailing knowledge has come in quite handy in a few situations. One of the memorable moments was when my aunt got a new to her kuga, only a few years old and very low mileage, but on the first week of owning it as she was going to put away the baby buggy she caught it on the paint work and put a nice scratch in it. Luckily, I had a look at it felt it with my finger nail and it didn’t catch, so I got out my 3 inch DA, a wool pad and Sonax cut and finish couple minutes later.. as if nothing ever happened. Saving having to pay for it to get repaired and an awkward conversation with my uncle 😅 I’ve also found it to be useful around the house, I’ve used autoglym glass polish followed up by turtle wax ceramic spray wax on a number of surfaces, including exterior windows, kitchen tiles and glass screen. All coming out lovely and reducing water spots 🙂

I polished and ceramic coated my friends car for his wedding. Fortunately I reached out to the detailing community for tips and they said not to work on the hood if you're putting on ribbons, as it will get scratched from rubbing in the wind when driving. So I saved having to duplicate work and did this after the wedding.

Pet hate is when you change or replace the number plate on your car and you have to remove the sticky pads from the paintwork. Such a simple trick is to soak a piece of kitchen roll in tar/bug remover and set it on the pad and come back in five minutes and literally just peel it of. So easy and so satisfying 😎!

I’ve used detailing/home knowledge in a situation using glass cleaners for interior use…Some glass cleaners say streak free, but this isn’t always the case as I’m sure we all know. And it can be difficult in trying to remove the haze/smear. In this situation I would use warm water with a few drops on vinegar and a microfibre. This removes the haze/smear and leaves the glass streak free. I find gyeon glass a really good glass cleaner that is streak free. Cheers John keep up the good work.

Hi John. Over the years I have put my detailing skills to good use. Many a friend will call me with a question or a disaster to potentially help fix. However one occasion stands out as a major save. Like many people watching your videos my garage is my happy place. I spend hours in there cleaning, polishing and just switching off from the world. In a similar fashion the shiny new kitchen we had installed just before Covid19, became a focal point for the family. Several areas however came with warnings and clear instructions from the wife. She was for example forever telling me to be extremely careful and never put anything on top of the glossy black induction hob. It was to her, like the bonnet on my car. ….Sacred. We even had a glass protector custom made to sit on top of the hob to protect it. Thats how precious it was and still is. One fateful day I did the unthinkable and didn’t use the protector as I plated up a wonderful fry up breakfast. Eager to gobble up the tasty food and in haste I managed to somehow drag a ceramic plate and cutlery across the top scratching the surface. I knew this was game over in my wife’s eyes. I could see the writing on the wall! I nearly panicked but quickly ran a nail across the surface and thought it might, just might be saveable. A swift or should that be mad dart into the garage for some compound, polish and a ton of cloths followed. Amazingly after a good session with a number of products and my trusty polisher it came up as good as new and importantly still worked! It was a major save not only for the gloss black induction hob but potentially for my marriage as well! I did of course have to confess to my wife about the damage and repair and its now something we can laugh about, well I can … thankfully !. Its a story that gets told time and time again as my wife cant believe I was both, completely stupid and scratched the surface (especially after so many warnings and how careful I am around my car), but also how I managed to bring it back to new. Of course the hob still looks great and I have indeed learnt my lesson! . She now keeps asking if my detailing skills can be put to good use around the rest of the house! Ceramic coat on the shower door ! I’ve not used Soft99 products so would love to see what they can bring to the party! Many Thx and keep making great educational and importantly enjoyable videos…. Thx Jim

Here is my story, I'd like to think most people on here would think to do this but anyhow! A while back, my parents had a bathroom installed, the full works, unfortunately after everything was finished and tidying up had commenced, various silcone, sealant and or other scuff markings were spotted in the shower tray and tiles surrounding the fixtures. Despite best efforts by the installation team and my mother nothing could shift some of the real stubborn marks. The company did offer to replace the tray but faced with the massive inconvenience of having the only bathroom in the house out of action again my parents decided to make do. First weekend after this, they went away for a break so I decided to try cleaning myself with Gtechniq panel wipe. came off 1st attempt with no hassle, I even gave the tray a little polish and buff to bring the shine back. My folks are well chuffed and car panel wipe is kept in the house on standby now.

Literally two days ago I cleaned the oven and found the next morning the worktop had been marked where a patch of the oven cleaner had dried. Washing with various chemicals made no difference. Guessing that the oven cleaner had etched into the surface of the laminate worktop, I thought I would get a gentle finishing polish from the garage as I would with bird poop etching. Rupes Uno Pure was what a went for and gently worked it in with a microfibre. Needed to repeat 2-3 times but now the mark has gone. A bit of detailing experience saved the day and me from getting an earful from the Mrs!

The Mrs left an old steel baking tray to soak in the brand new ceramic sink that I had installed at the start of the year. It left rust stains all over the sink where it had made contact and no amount of scrubbing or kitchen chemicals would shift them. Then I thought that my fallout remover might just do the job, so I went to the garage and grabbed the bottle and a detailing brush and gave it a try. Within 30 seconds of application and gentle agitation all the rust marks lit up purple and were washed away. The sink was as good as new again. Needless to say, I bought the Mrs some aluminum baking trays and binned the old steel ones to avoid a repeat detailing session on the kitchen sink!

I get plenty of debris from my tree in my front garden and get debris in places I can’t clean out. One place is the rear lights on my BMW. After taking them out. I found using my electric tooth pick was ideal for flushing the dirt out. The pressure was just right to clean them.

A delivery driver pulled on my dads brand new block driveway he’d just had laid and leaked diesel all over it, sprayed it with neat surfex HD and let it dwell for a bit and blasted it away which shifted most of it but still had an outline and then foamed it with touchless and that somehow got rid of the rest of it

Also when having this chance I want to tell everyone about two cheap household products I use for detailing. Elbow grease only a pound in most shops one of the best engine degreasers I’ve ever tried, and black harpic for stainless exhausts where they look old and tired please try this green solution it’s also a pound and worth every penny

Used the Graco compound on my car windscreen thought it was brilliant decided to borrow my neighbours ladder and do my entire windows of my house that was four months ago. My windows of my house are still clean when it rains. It just washes the dirt off used to have a Window Cleaner come once a month don’t need him anymore, so I made my money back within three months😊

I recently had my garage roof replaced and once it was all done I stood back and the garage door was letting it down as it was covered with moss, dirt and all sorts. I tried to pressure wash and did not shift anything, found an old bottle of Maguire's wash plus and a wheel brush and went to town on the door. It came up like new once rinsed 😂

I started to use Soft99 Glaco Roll on max on all my house windows and keeps them clean and with all the rain beading beautifully, have also used it on shower doors after cleaning with Glaco Compound, only downside is it has increased my cleaning duties from cars to the house now 🤣 any spray air fresheners get used inside the house as well

The Stain Cleaner seem to be more of an all around stubborn dirt remover. There is also dedicated new cleaner for wheels, the DiGloss Kamitoré Wheel & Tire Cleaner which is meant for oily grime and tar deposits. Would you give it ago against the Stain Cleaner to see how it performs?

Recently, an oncoming vehicle ran over one of those pre-preparred pots of jelly an it splatteted over the car. No problem I thought. Before I could tackle the jelly splat however the dog beat me to it licked most of it off: Not really my skils but rather my dogs skills. Dogs can do detailing it seems..

When I met my wife she had a beautiful black piano but it was In terrible condition because it had been spayed for years with furniture polish. “I’ll get that clean” said I “That would be good and I will make you a lamb dinner with roasties and all the works” well what could I do in came a very mild APC and clay bar and my 3 inch machine polisher with the softest of pad and a very mild maguires polish. 3 hours later of going at this piano with great ease I can tell you it looked fantastic. The lamb dinner was great the roasties the best I have ever had the evening just got better and we got married 10 months later. I got the dinner and I got the girl we are celebrating 17 years of amazing marriage this year we even still have the piano but it does not look as good as the day I detailed it. James
