Who owns reality? Who defines where fantasy begins? A genius musician lives a lonely life in a surreal, floating world. He plays the piano every day in a gigantic concert hall, but there is nobody to listen. One day his animated world collapses and reality breaks out. He misses his daughter and wants to visit her, but her mother doesn‘t allow it. The film seamlessly transforms from an animation into a live-action drama, reflecting the journey from the psychotic mind of a poor street musician into the real world. He only has one wish: To play for his daughter, which he is not allowed to visit any more.

@walrusesareawesome7631

I feel like it's the musician talking to a bunch of kids about the events of the film a few months later. He mentions that it'll take a lot of time for [his mental illness] to completely fade, and this is probably a bit left over. The difference being that now, when experiencing this, he imagines himself as the stuffed creature rather than "himself", as is evidenced by the creature walking in a more urban road cutting to him riding on a bus (?) in a more urban place. I'm not so sure on what him being the creature means so much, but I imagine it's good, considering how his imagined sphere city dissappear's as he rides past some buildings.

I this was amazing work! Only missing part I see as far as animation (don’t know if it was intentional) is the reflection in the windows as his head/body figure does not match the reflection at 7:35 -7:43. You all did great!

Freelance Productions I interpreted that scene as realism versus fantasy. Maybe how he sees himself and his fantasy world versus how we see reality. The two started bleeding together as his version of reality was shaken. When the police officer made him leave, and after the doctor gave him his diagnosis. But in the end, as we saw that his little companion wasn't merely make believe, that the reality within the composer was just real as anything else. That's just my take. I could be wrong lol, but it was brilliant and beautiful.

@@archaicoutlaw A bit late, but according to the interview with Till Nowak you are correct. Instead of reality being intruded with fantasy, he wants to view fantasy as the world and reality as an intruder. Nobody understand what the pianist experienced in the spherical dissonance, and at the end of the day we all had no right to dictates what is real or not for others. I see similarities in umwelt (manga), caldera (short animation), and stonehearst asylum (movie). We often call people who rambles about demons, aliens, etc. as mad, but really our own perception is none the saner. Magenta as a color doesn’t really exist (essentially it’s our way to differentiate “green” wavelengths in nature), our eyes sometimes skip time to fill in information (saccadic masking), our perception is lagged for about 80 milliseconds (technically our consciousness live in the past, rather than the present). This is the majority of the (“normal”) people, we also have people that can see more colors (tetrachromats), experience connected senses (synesthesia), colorblind, can’t feel pain nor sadness, etc. Everyone have their own bubble in which only their perception based reality exist, and currently we have nothing to experience each other bubbles. Dissonance is aimed to make viewers rethink their own reality, and realize the subjectivity of it.
