WWII Victory Saw restoration with cracked handle repair. This Victory Saw is a rather unusual saw because it was only produced for a few years during WWII. Disston had produced Many Victory Saws before but several features of this saw are unique such as the walnut handle and the lack of brass hardware both a result of war time shortages.

Great video and great restoration. I have restored 21 Disstons. The best being a D12 & a D112 and an 1860's "One son" Tenon saw. Being from England I had to go to tool fairs or bid on Ebay for Disstons from America. I use all the saws I restored in work. There is nothing like a good Disston. Dave.

What a wonderful collection you have, Dave. I have been buying all the old Disstons I can find at the swap meet. It's time to see what I got.

Great jod, I didn't know about the victory saws. I just restored a D-8 rip from the WWII era. Cabinet scrapers are great for removing varnish, then superglue to wick into the cracks, then I soak the handle in linseed oil overnight.

Thanks for the video. A year ago I was poking around in a second hand shop and found a saw for $10 with so much rust I couldn’t make out any etching but there was a Disston medallion on the handle. It sat around my shop until this morning when I finally started trying to clean the blade off. Turns out it is a 26” Disston 42 7 tpi. I was glad to find your video and discover that I had actually found something work keeping. Next step will be to sharpen and set the teeth.

Nice work! Disston history is very interesting, and I have gathered a few of them. Question: why not use chemicals to remove rust? How can you know you got it all, without chemicals? Won’t the rust come right back?

really great tips and advice - helped me to restore a couple of old saws that looked like they could never be used again but now are in perfect working order. It would be great to see you put out some more tool restoration vids at some point.
