Distress Crayon V. NeoColor Comparison

I don't have distress crayons, but do have Gelatos and Neocolor II. I prefer the Neocolors as they dissolve out completely without the need for gesso. But as you point out, they are completely different products. Thanks for the comparison video.

Hey you should review marabu watercolor crayons there on Amazon and I think would love them .. there one of my favorites...there awesome ....

Neocolors are Artist Grade and blend out beautifully with water, very creamy and vibrant. Lyra has a very nice Artist Grade Water Soluble Crayon as well. I have both but I’m gonna get some Distress Crayons for everyday play. They are more of a Crafters Grade item in my opinion, can be purchased in Craft Stores. No comparison between Neo’s and Distress Crayons. Neo’s are designed to use with water, they are simply beautiful.

Great comparison. Thank you! I really like the Neos & the gelatos. Overall, Tim Holtz's products I have been really happy with but to me the crayons were a fail. I used them once and they've been sitting in the same spot for over a year.

Thank you so much. I have never used Neocrayons but do use the Distress ones. I will be honest I really didn't know the best way to use the Distress ones so this really helped me. I was also trying to remember the hint about the Gesso. I made a note somewhere about ALWAYS using it on a certain paper fir a certain medium. I couldn't find the note anywhere so maybe it was the comment you made that Tim Holtz suggested always using it with his Distress crayons. Is that on all paper? Thanks. Sorry for the long post

There are so many differences between these items. First up The Neocolor are NOT lightfast. Distress are not. Plus Neocolour are artist grade. Pigment in the distress are crap and can go moldy overtime on your work. Distress have heaps of filler in them too. They also can be dangerous overtime if you use your fingers a lot for moving them around to smudge. Not worth the money either. Just be careful using them.
