It's amazing what you were able to accomplish with these. Persistence definitely wins. They're meant to accompany his inks and ink sprays. It was interesting to see a review from a watercolor artist vs. card makers and paper crafters.

Thank you! Yes I also thought it would be a different point of view. With the colors I guess I was a bit too excited and expecting more knowing and loving the inks (and being into art as well). I was hoping for something really unique but they’re still cool for crafts, no doubt.

I wonder if you can get more darks adding some water-soluble graphite. I've also used the reinkers and really like the potent color I get from them.

Wait. Are these supposed to LOOK distressed? The website just mentions it coordinates with the Distress line... I actually noticed how light they were immediately! You only got good color out of the shavings. And I don't understand why I would want to use the "palette" method, rather than just actual watercolor :)
@paintingandchocolate2 жыл бұрын
I was surprised too! Maybe they're a better fit for small additions not sure?
@paintingandchocolate2 жыл бұрын
About the distress look I just had an expectation knowing the inks,and seeing the same names on the pencils, mainly, that they would look more like them.
@jennw68092 жыл бұрын
@@paintingandchocolate it's too bad, it seems so odd since they look much like the Neocolor IIs but just don't perform the same! But thanks so much for showing us the product.
@TiuTauTilhi Жыл бұрын
@@paintingandchocolate Indeed, that is what I would've expected, too. I have Distress inks and really like them for paper crafts but it's a bit disappointing that the watercolour versions of them really don't look similar. Although I have used distress inks separately for painting, as well. But I guess the coordination with the line just refers to the colour palette here.
@paintingandchocolate Жыл бұрын
@@TiuTauTilhi yes you are right, I thought of that too that the goal was probably to match them to the line.

Thanks for the thorough experimenting video, and persistence wins. :) I was wondering about these colours, as well. But looks like they're not a needed addition to my art stuff. I.e. they don't add anything special or different that I couldn't already do with what I already have. I'm a fan Derwent Inktenses and their other products, alongside my other brand watercolours.

Just curious have you gone back to try to lift the intense after a day or two and see if you were able to do it? I have found that they I'm really great at not fading on cloth for example a canvas pencil bag.

These pencils are simply pigmented to match the distress line. They are not meant to give a distressed look. The other distress products are inks and dyes. This is watercolor.

It's what I figured, with the name though and knowing the inks, I was expecting something more unique I guess.

Persistence definitely wins. I won't be buying these nor any other "watercolor pencils." Frankly I don't see the point when I already have lots of lovely watercolors.
@paintingandchocolate2 жыл бұрын
Watercolor pencils are so different and fun though, if you ever get a chance to try the Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer, or the Derwent Inktense, they're excellent (and yes so are regular Watercolors🙂)
@ChristinaTodd19702 жыл бұрын
@@paintingandchocolate I have a 60 set of Albrecht Dürer and a full set of Inktense. I never use them. I thought I would love them but I don't 🙁. I would rather use my watercolors than either pencil brand. I wish I'd bought Inktense blocks instead of the pencils. I could see myself using them for underpaintings where I don't want the first layer to budge. I suppose if I was use to using colored pencils the switch to water soluble would need fun, but I prefer a brush. They're just not my idea of fun.

Water activated pencils and pastels are great to use in colouring books, where you can't use too much water, which is more difficult to do with regular watercolours.

Great review, but I think this really is not what those pencils were supposed to be used for. They are meant as an addition to the already existing Distress Ink/Oxides etc series to enhance your scrapbooking/crafting. So this is what the colours coordinate to, they are not meant to build a good palette (or medium) for painting. There is a white and black pencil in the first set, though. What really helped me is your comaprison whith softpastels, since this is exactly what I was wandering. I saw people use those pencils on their stamps ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6mwn3uKqbCUr6c ), yiealding absolutely beautiful results and I couldn't imagine my/some watercolour pencils working on rubber. So I'll probably go for them now. (: Thank you! (:
@paintingandchocolate Жыл бұрын
Yes I think you're right that they're meant for something else. The name watercolor pencil and then distress,.I knew both separately, i think i just imagined something completely different 😁

I haven't checked back on the inks for so long, and havent used these pencils since. Thanks for letting me know !
@DianaNorman Жыл бұрын
@@paintingandchocolate Art supplies for the craft world are cheaper and usually not lightfast. They are meant to be used on temporary artwork like greeting cards or inside sketchbooks or scrapbooks, never for any fine art you intend to sell or display long-term.
