Can you please expand on your answer to the first question? I have done what you said, but even in the filter gallery, the background is transparent, and my text appears white. I applied a solid black background fill, and I'm still not getting the right effect. Can you give us the size of your artboard as well?

i know if your project is in 16 bit and not 8 bit the filter gallery wont work

If you're file Color is set to CMYK you may have to convert to RGB, at least I had to.

How I remember the effect didn't work that well if the BG wasn't fused into a smart object with text but I'm not sure

Sorry if not the best description lol -Make it into smart object again after selecting filters -open layer style -use the "Blend If: Grey" sliders -Slide the dark marker under Current Layer Should remove black bg with that or can try click on marker + alt to split and then drag

Try making sure your foreground and background colors in the bottom left match his before opening the filter gallery. In case you’re still wondering this after 5 months lol

to apply it ur file needs to be in RGB 8bit. idk if this helps

The fill colours need to be black and white. pressing d will change them back to default when none of the layers are selected :)

Yes because it has a different size then my artboard and the effect behaves differently, you need to test and adjust the settings that's gonna work.

I had a similar issue. From what I could gather in his video it looked like he was using a text layer. I did a quick png export of my text layer, then used that and it looked like the final version here. @@jeromesri8627

You're welcome! There might be a way but I don't know that. You can make it with no background too, but the effects won't looks the same with no transparency
