I recall someone mention on a reddit thread that Fedora got the latest KDE before Arch(leading to a joke of Fedora surpassing Arch in release speeds). A Fedora dev later commented that Fedora isn't rolling, KDE is.

To be fair, they've just recently merged KDE 6 into Unstable (and I think even into Testing now as well) so expect some update pains as they get all the various KDE packages updated and tested. I'm sticking with KDE 5 on Stable for now.

I've been using Debian testing for a long time, installing from minimal ISO, modifying sources to switch to testing (something worth mentioning, using "testing" as distro release instead of its codename such as "trixie" in sources.list) and then building from the ground up with i3wm. I've gotta say, never had an issue whatsoever except a few applications that were a little outdated. I find testing definiteIy a good choice for home, not being an expert by any mean (so I would not dare with sid...). I just went through quite a lot of RTFM and nice tutorials like yours.

I used testing about 2-3 years ago and I had some issues. Some updates were corrupted and I wouldn't be able to boot in. I managed to fix that, but testing is not a beginner friendly choice.

usually i use the netinst iso (for stable), although with my belkin wifi usb the internet didnt work without having to transfer .deb files from my phone to it and install with dpkg -i. As an experiment i've upgraded slax(debian) in kvm to "testing". I think next time i have to do another debian install i'd use the dvd iso or install those .deb files in tty2 until it recognizes my wifi. It was a major pain to install everything from the core install.

Just installed with the MINI.ISO on a new VM as per your guide using Proxmox but I chose KDE. It defaulted to the usual SDDM login screen and Plasma under Wayland. It seems heavy on Memory (about 1.5 to 2 Gigs). But I got what I wanted... A preview of KDE Plasma 6.x and Wayland. Debian 12 with KDE Plasma 5.x is my daily driver on baremetal. So now to see if I can get XRDP running.

"Experts" install Debian Stable. Experts don't use st,upid things like rolling-release. If you want the most up-to-date version of a program, just install that from a different source, like Snap. With Snaps, or other sources, you can easily have the fancy most up-to-date versions of your favourite programs with good stable operating systems as well. There's no reason to run the most up-to-date unstable version of EVERY program, especially not operating-system programs, except for testing. Noone should use operating systems that just break. Xfce is beautiful, you are ug,ly. Gnome is ug,ly.
@matyasmarkkovacs83368 сағат бұрын
Everything but not Snaps. Snaps are garbage. Flatpak is garbage too but it's still better. And honestly vanilla XFce is quite ugly. It looks like something from the late 90s.
