Some people were experiencing a "bad unpackfs" error when installing on some machines. This was due to "copytoram" being enabled. I have rebuilt the ISO with "copytoram" disabled. This is now fixed. Also, Emacs did not work correctly either in the live environment or after installation (unless your user was named 'dt' ) due to symlinking that Elpaca uses. This too should now be fixed. The new ISO is ready to download: sourceforge.net/projects/dtos/

Installed it alongside another distro on an old mbpro. Had to grab the updated iso and it installed just fine. After a few hours i even got the wifi working :D Super cool DT!

Some bugs on this initial ISO.... You need to install 'ttf-ubuntu-font-family' otherwise my Emacs config will complain. Also install 'lolcat' so that the 'clear' command works in fish without error. If you are using wifi, you probably want to install 'networkmanager' and 'network-manager-applet'. Enable NetworkManager.service with systemctl. Add 'nm-applet' to .config/qtile/autostart.sh NOTE: These have all been corrected now in a new ISO that is now available. dtos-2023.08.20 Also....the first time you open Emacs, run this: M-x all-the-icons-install-fonts This will install the necessary icons needed.

Man , works flawlessly! Played a little joke on my wife. I put a spare drive in the caddy on my wife's computer and did a quick install of qtile. Then I setabout 10 things to auto start. You know, the kinds are things like emacs, terminal, and several other things that she would never know how to use. Of course she didn't know any of the key bindings 🤣. You would have thought I put Vaseline on her toilet seat! She said, "you told me Linux doesn't get viruses"!😮. Thanks Derek for all you do! 👍

im tryint to install it but im getting an error "The source filesystem "run/archiso/boomnt/arch/x86_64/airootfs.sfs" does not exist" and it exits the conf. install. Any thoughts? Thanks

What are you install in to? Physical hardware? Virtual machine? If a VM, which VM program? Also...I just uploaded a new ISO about an hour ago so maybe try that.

For now, post issues on my gitlab, preferably the dtos-iso repo ( gitlab.com/dtos/dtos-iso ) so it's obvious the issue is with the ISO and not the installation script.

No distro is pointless - a distro is simply someone's vision as to how Linux should work, and everyone has a right to have Linux work how they want to. Me, I have been perfectly happy with Gentoo's huge customisation options and very wide range of supported platforms for 20 years now and that won't be changing for me any time soon - but if your distro works for others then more power to you and them.

You may have problems rebuilding the partitions after you install it first. It may break after a kernel update(encountered on fedora)

Hey DT .... I can't install it on my laptop. Partitioning is OK, user and password set, then install begins....calamares formats my partition and BUM....unable to unpack the system. I was so happy about this distro! Hoping it will be fixed in some way in the near future. I really like your vision. The question is: is there anyone who installed it on a laptop's bare metal? Mine is a Lenovo ThinkPad x250 - intel core i7 - 8Gb RAM

I tested it out on a old laptop of mine today and got the same error. It is a "copytoram" issue where it loads the filesytem into RAM on some devices. I need to disable that and rebuild the ISO. I'll try to get this put out late tonight or early tomorrow.

If a minute is that crucial to you then: 1. You have too much going on in your life and probably need to slow down a bit, 2. You need to manage your time better, or 3. You're probably too impatient to be using Linux in the first place.

@@terrydaktyllus1320 I'm not the OP but... I think the problem is less about impatience but expectation. If other distros I use in my machine loads in 10s, I'd be questioning why this one takes a minute. For example, I have 2 Linux machine, one PC and other is an old laptop, both uses SDDM. The laptop takes 2 minutes to load SDDM, so if I install this one and load SDDM in around 2 minutes, I wouldn't question it. The PC however loads to SDDM in just 10 - 15s, and if this distro takes a minute plus to load, I'd search for the root cause. Not that I'm impatient, but clearly its an anomaly that needs to be solved.

The emacs that launches with [S] + e, e has none of the fancy spacebar stuff. Looks like a standard GNU Emacs (but dark themed), along with the standard commands etc.

In the live environment, it will not look right. Once it installs, it's fine except it is missing some icons/fonts. Do a: M-x all-the-icons-install fonts Then open a terminal: killall emacs /usr/bin/emacs --daemon & It should look right now.

@@DistroTube There is no command for M-x all-the-icons-install fonts. Tried every combination of those words and autocomplete provides nothing either. It's a pretty standard GNU Emacs as is, with the standard scratch page you always get upon first opening GNU Emacs. Only difference being the bar at the top has some colourful button icons and the scratch buffer is black. (dark grey).

@@harryvendryes Have you run through Calamares and rebooted? In the live ISO, Emacs won't look right (I'll have to work on fixing that at some point). If you have run through the installation and rebooted and Emacs still looks weird, try killing the emacs daemon and restarting it with the commands I mentioned above. If you get an error when restarting the Emacs daemon, post the error message...preferably here: gitlab.com/dtos/dtos-iso

@@DistroTube Yes I did a reboot and tried all other suggestions with no luck. But... you know what... I'm now thinking your old post installation script was more than I needed. Always trying to keep it as simple as possible. If you stop the updates for that - and I do understand what a time soak it must be for you - I'll simply tweak the configs you already provided. Also - and you probably know this already - GRUB has some issues with LUKS 2. I could only ever get my encrypted laptop drive setup with LUKS 1 (using the basic Arch installer) I believe there is a complicated workaround though. Too complex for me to fully understand. Hey, maybe you already took this into account. I only mention as you may only have a modern EFI setup you install onto (encrypted HDD).

It's an awkward setup, choosing Python for a WM, yet the workflows aren't prepared for real python usage. Would hope to see this distro grow with all of the python ecosystem. DT OS might become a python's dev favorite OS with just some more python work included. There are ideas floating to include Python in the Dutch basic schooling system, so this Python distro might go fly. And I already see the Bash-ban coming; legalisators became really woke.

To jest komentarz do tych co gardłowali że PIS PO jedno dno. Wszystkie słuszne krytyki PISu nie zmieniają że gdy trzeba było coś wybrać to PIS był prawidłowym wyborem. Jeśli widzimy co poszło nie tak za PIS, to jest to podstawa do zmiany i poprawy. Wybór PO i przystawek to jest spirala nieudactwa i szkodnictwa. Z drugiej strony, dla PIS jednym memento jest branie pożyczek za publiczne pieniądze z których ktoś w Berlinie Brukseli decyduje jak je wydamy w Polsce - takie coś powinno być nielegalne i ktoś powinien odpowiedzieć. No i jak mozna usprawiedliwić ze ets2 jest w drodze i Polska się nie odcina? To są plagi, których przetrwanie zależy od rozwoju szybszego w regionie, czyli od CPK i innych inwestycji których mozliwosci i chęci zawdzięczamy czasom PIS.

hey DT, just wanted to let you know that the ISO doesn't boot in qemu. "sudo qemu-system-x86_64 -cdrom ./Downloads/dtos-2023.11.01.iso --enable-kvm"

I switch my system shell all of the time. Mostly use dash, anymore. It just boots my system faster, and doesn't (usually) cause me any problems.
