I live near Porton Down and have a degree in animal management. A few times scientist from the facility would come in and give special lectures on what they do. Then go on to convince us to come and work for them as the animals need looking after and our degree is a biology degree. They do test explosives in pigs however they are put under general anesthetic then put to sleep straght after. They do not feel pain and are not aware of the things being done, I hope that helps people. I am not aware of anyone from uni going to work in the facility. It went against why most of us where there. The lectures where always very interesting, I still get shivers every time I drive past though.
