Yeah - I'm 38, I dabbled in web dev during my teens in the 90s. And in adulthood spent a good decade or more working as a software engineer. We lost the dream so long ago now, it barely even matters. For sure there's a new fight to be had, choices still to be made and freedom to be found. But we dropped the ball on the Internet pretty much as a complete whole a long time ago. I remember even like 10+ years ago and especially when that show "Mr. Robot" came out - and I'd see people variously because ultra security & privacy focused. I never bothered - I always said if I could have done it all again knowing what i know now - then yes absolutely, I would have been a ghost online. I would have done a lot of things different, of course, that's how hindsight works. But there's little point striving for online privacy at the moment - we gave it up without a fight a long time ago. Maybe the last time there was even a chance to fight for it, some like Snowden or Assange - and we gave them up too.

Because conspiracies are extremely rare, almost all conspiracy theories have a much more plausible explanation. It almost never is a conspiracy, but rather people individually acting in their self-interest and/or stupidity. Like this one. Why would anyone care if you saw billions of pages on pancakes? That makes no sense. But limiting the number of results that come back for purely financial reasons, as actually returning billions of results to billions of people would be expensive. So, basically, the search engines are all cheapskates and money-hungry, not trying for some nebulous "control." Far, far more plausible. Of course, the end result is still very bad, but the reason isn't "control," but rather $. If they are steering you towards some places and away from others, it's because it's what makes them the most money (directly or indirectly, sometimes, for example, it's about avoiding legislation that will hurt their pocketbook). If it really was a big conspiracy, would the "evidence" be left out so obviously? Conspiracy theorists are generally crazy, as they have to assume the authors of these conspiracies are both deviously clever and mind-bogglingly stupid at the same time, that they would leave out these "clues" that can be pieced together by hacks on KZbin. And I found this because KZbin suggested this video, if they were behind some conspiracy, wouldn't they hide it? If it was a conspiracy, they would. But, since they can sell ads as long as I click another video, they don't care, or rather, they love you guys, they're profiting off you, which is more than a little ironic...

@@tgreaux5027 it's not disrespectful to want all the facts before making an opinion. The search of information is not disrespectful. Don't you think, though, that it says a lot that the information was there and it's now been removed? If it wasn't real, if it was totally wrong, why go to the trouble of removing it? Why give it any thought if there's nothing to it? Censoring conspiracy theories is censorship and censorship always has a purpose. A lot of it is tin foil hat shit but that's part of freedom. I start using internet in early 90s. As I remember back then there was some initiative that internet should be available only to people running windows os. Microsoft was back then bigger than life. Of course that absurdity didn't go well. Bottom line is that always was and it will be attempts to control internet and it's content. And this is not a problem. The problem is this grey zone where you have people making content on various subjects that confront main stream media. And this grey zone is obviously subject of manipulations.

I can pinpoint the exact day this happened. I was getting as much information as I could on the new coronovirus that started in Wuhan for my work. I could easily find 100s of obscure videos with only a few views coming out of Wuhan and information on Google about current events before they hit mainstream news. Used to spend half of my day doing it. Until it changed when WHO declared an official pandemic and global health crisis, it happened the same day. This was part of the pandemic preparedness plan to combat misinformation so I was expecting it. Yet the pandemic is over and the censorship still exists...
@BenkaiDebussy
@BenkaiDebussy Жыл бұрын
What you experienced is probably just the way the search engines heavily prioritize mainstream news websites + stuff like wikipedia. When you first googled the topic, it didn't have much reporting yet, so you were still able to get various more obscure links (sort of like if you googled some really obscure topic now). But once it became a big news topic, it could populate all the results with just links to government and major news websites. Searches have been terrible for a lot longer than just the last couple years. I don't know when exactly the change happened, but it's been at least 4-5 years and probably longer.

I'm almost 65, Jimmy. I lived the earliest days of the internet. Before the advertisers commercialized. That was the downfall. The Search Engines were a godsend back then. It was like going to the local library while sitting at your desk. What a miraculous feeling for researchers like myself. Then the advertisers took over so when you went to do a search it was cluttered with advertising crap. At the same time Google became high and mighty and in conjunction with other techy nerds they threw a bottleneck into the information you received. Suddenly small regular Joe websites and documents couldn't be found because the internet tech gods required complicated programming tidbits in your website code that regular Joe’s either couldn't afford or had no time to develop. Hence the modern elitist internet, not for everybody, but only for the big dogs sucking the big bucks. Then a few years ago I started to notice all searches sucked. They would only give you a few good links and the rest was trash. Often having nothing to do with what you were searching for. That's when I gave up on the Google and tech assholes and figured they were mostly young pieces of shit who's actual intelligence didn't go that far anyway. That is my conclusion. I am glad you brought it further attention. They are slimy nerds stealing the future of billions and leaving ignorance in their wake.

I've noticed this for years now. Articles, KZbin videos, blogs, forums, etc. that I used to visit in the late 2000s are now completely gone. I used to love looking up literally any topic and be able to come across some person's website with real, genuine advice which is now all replaced by corporate sponsored articles. Finding anything older than 10 years is damn near impossible edit: I wrote a guide on a specific playstyle for a game on WikiHow in 2008 which is now nowhere to be found. This is very real. I recently had a discussion with someone about American medicine, doctors, insurance, etc. I told them of an internal memo which I read with my very own eyes (and used to be able to look at on the internet) where the AMA (The American Medical Association) specifically stated that they are "not in the business of curing individuals." Their goal is "keep people 'manageably sick'. Well enough to work, so they can pay for the medications and procedures but sick enough to need them." They 100% really said that in their internal memo. So, I went to search it out and share that but found that it has been completely removed from the web.

I've noticed for a long while now, the internet has become so small compared to what it used to be. Back before the towers fell, you could type anything into a search engine and have some obscure websites, forums or blogs pop up. Sure, not everything was strictly relevant to what you wanted to find, but it truly felt like an ocean of human work and creativity (both good and bad). Now it's like a puddle with a picture of an ocean behind it, like a TV with only one government-mandated channel.

I am glad I printed out articles back in the day, and kept certain books of things I wanted to be sure to have for referencing. If they burned the library of Alexandria, and the Vatican has LONG censored what is known, what's to stop them from deleting all the information people rely on the internet for? A "push of the button" would be really easy to do. It would be so much easier to have society collapse, and vital knowledge unavailable. This loss of information and narrowing of available knowledge, means they will have an easier time of a common "programming" narrative. Control the narrative, control peoples' thinking and behavior. All in keeping with '1984', 'Brave New World', and Agendas 21 and 2030. I have them posting some of my comments here on youtube, and not others. There are times when each letter is slightly delayed when typing, indicating real-time censorship! They are very selective as to what information they allow me to say. So many immediately go to google for how to do or know something, thinking it will always be there. Glad I kept all of my books important to me, including ones from RN school back in the 1970's! I like to see changes over time.

As someone that used to jump 100 pages into a search, just to find the odd little sites on whatever I was thinking about, searching out that little nugget of curiousity. It's been VERY noticable. They don't show Joe Schmo's websites to you at all anymore - ONLY the major sites. We've gone from 2000 when EVERYONE had their own little free site, where the talked about what they found interesting - to 2022, where only MSM and Universities and Governments are shown. It's so wrong!! Another similar bubble, is the inability to access weather information. Every year, they make it harder to find simple real time radar. NOAA is the goto site - but they bury them and keep the site difficult to navigate. Unless you want to pay the weather channel or other MSM weather sites - it's just really difficult compared to 10 years ago. And even if you pay - they don't really give you much better info. Even my local radio station doesn't tell me what the high is going to be for the day - only a general "in the 70's" - which is not very helpful.

Interesting concept. I'm class of 2010 and I used to love looking up conspiracy videos, ufos, etc. One of the first KZbinrs I got into was spirit science, and saw the Zeitgeist movie. At that time, I do believe that my feed would have those videos readily available for me to watch. Now I feel like KZbin has pretty much gotten televised and very narrow minded to the point where unless your mainstream and easily likeable, you would have a very hard time to grow your channel and get the word out. I greatly appreciate your videos and keep up the research! You inspire a generation of free thinkers and your not the only one scratching your head feeling like you've been lied to about our human history!

I have been watching this happen for years. It started for us with music videos my band was putting out on our own. Somewhere about 6 years ago we noticed our content and others (friends) content being buried, view counts locking up and even going backwards, searches not finding us at all. Quickly it went toward politics, science, and everything else. It became evident to us that content was going to be controlled from then on out. The golden age of the internet is dead.

I noticed this when conducting research on certain topics. When I searched for certain terms or papers where I remembered easily identifiable parts of the title or content, it just wouldn't show up. The only way to find it is to look through your own search history, which Google keeps for you, look for the day and find the page. It still exists, I remembered the terms correctly, but Google has become too stupid to show it. My background is Computer Science. My university had a department that was engaged in the development of web standards, ontologies, etc. My very first seminar paper was about this. They were in communication with Google and key figures at Google. They taught how these crawlers and search engines are modeled, how the algorithms work. But this reflected only the first generation of search engines, how ranks are determined, not about filtering unless the website owners opted out. I'm not sure what Google has been doing since the transformation to Alphabet. Everything seems to be a downfall. The newest Pixel phones are a flop, their service is literally fraudulent, business customers have to pay more and more for the same products, Inbox has been canceled and replaced with their old generation product Gmail, which is implemented in an outdated language and model. This seems to happen to all big companies once the founders leave their leading positions. New figures get involved, such as Black Rock, they invest and integrate them into this centralistic implicit shadow state in which money and status determine the future, manipulate the public, all in the name of your own safety. Because you can't be trusted with free information. Education isn't the answer, no, filtering everything difficult and raw is. They put their own opinion on top of it, that you're supposed to eat like candy. Until you can't imagine how to live without out. How to know what's right and wrong without someone "trusted" telling you. It's divide et impera on another level. Just keep fighting each other over what opinion is the real deal, not about the underlying facts, about science. Leave science to the officials. Let them decide which paper to publish and which paper deserves a headline. Let them tell you what science is. You don't need to acquire the skills yourself on how to determine what paper is transparent, affected by conflicts of interest, what good or bad methodologies exist. If you're a scientist, good for you but don't dare to get involved in other disciplines. You're only allowed an opinion in your own field.

The reason I got into coding in the early 90s was precisely because I knew that computers would bring about 1984 due to ever increasing speed and storage capacity, and I wanted to at least understand the issues involved. The information IS there but I agree that the main search engines, even DuckDuckgo and Startpage (formerly ixquick which used go deep) do not go that far. About 10 years ago, I wrote a text only search engine using spiders and written in C++, that found many more pages, but very very slowly because it actually searched the internet, not just databases of titles, keywords and tags. In fact, I had to add a feature so that you could just stop the search and give the results so far. The databases are kept by the search engine's firm and are added to, and almost certainly, deleted from, as well. One problem is that it just takes way too long to actually search every single page on the internet, and rank them each time. Imagine trying to find a topic in a large book without an index - not an exact analogy, obviously, but still useful. Also, memory, disk space and processing on the servers is an issue, even with SANs. You cannot possibly get billions of results in less than 1 second if you were really searching every single page. I think the current method as described above did not start off as too sinister but just as way to make searches faster, then factor in the fact that they use your search history and your personal information to make money with targeted advertising, and it starts to get murky real quick. Anyway, thanks very much for highlighting this problem. It is a real issue. Also, if you have ever used any Google product on your PC then everything on that PC has been looked through by them. The worst is mobile phones because they all, maybe not quite all, use Android (owned by Google) or Apple iOS. I don't think I have to explain why that is unhealthy in a democracy (ha, ha).

The limited search results is due to the way the algorithm works now. The index search finds millions of results and the algorithm determines most of them aren't relevant to the query. That's why you only get a few dozen pages now. I'm not a fan of it, but that's what they give as the reason.
@peterpike
@peterpike Жыл бұрын
That doesn't make sense in the context of the claim that it finds billions of results to begin with. Google doesn't discover ANYTHING as you're looking through the list about which ones are relevant to the search. They present an outright lie, pretend you have access to it, and then don't provide it. When a human does this, it's called psychological abuse. When a company does it, it's called Silicon Valley.
