At about 4:20, he should have said "You condition their brain to follow the first card". Not the"3" or the "diamond". When they're conditioned to follow the first card, that's when you deal from the top of your 2 cards. That's the key to the 3 card monte.
@ArduinoTronic11 жыл бұрын
There is another version where the target card is given a slight dog ear (twist) at one corner. They think you dont know this and then you rapidly straighten that card and dog-ear another as you pick up and do the swap as well.... nasty that one!

Even if your visual acuity is so high that you can follow the money-card every time, the people who run this sort of game will assault and rob you if you "win".
@MrBigenstien10 жыл бұрын
I don't think generally they'd do that, there are ways to ensure you never win even if you "catch on" to what they are doing, and even if you understand it they can make your chances no better than 50% really though, if you get that one 50% chance win! you more than likely aren't going to be winning again.
@ghuegel10 жыл бұрын
MrBigenstien I think they can make your odds 33% because they can do "the move" more than once. But if you had the ability (supernatural as it would be) to see through "the move", and you persisted in playing, I suspect that you're likely to be robbed. At least, that's what I've heard, and it seems plausible.

They only let you win a few because they scammed enough other people. If they haven't a shill will override your bet with a higher one, and instead you will get your money back, and the shill will win if he bet on your card or lose if he bet on a different one. If this happens to you, don't bother trying again. It's very rare that you will get to win even once, even if you pick it. Also if you are allowed to win, then you are helping them scam other people, by proving they can be beaten by a non shill.

I rode the CTA in Chicago in the evening for about a year, and watched this and the shell game in amazement. At a specific station, a group of people would get on who were clearly working together, but pretending they didn't know each other. One of them would "win" then lure someone, usually an immigrant - to bet, take their money, the whole group would get off at the next stop, and catch the next train back towards downtown. Repeat and rinse. There is no way CTA security did not know this was going on. If they had a guard on the platform where they changed trains, the whole thing would unravel. There was absolutely no reason a person would make that train switch.

The best 3 card-monte I have seen was a street guy in Seattle. He would bend the corner of the card you were looking for and was kind of obvious about it. You would be thinking how can I lose with the corner bent, only one of the cards have a corner bent. But of course, somehow when he mixed the cards up the bent corner would "jump" to the wrong card. genius

They usually have partners in the crowd, when you bet on the right card, the partner goes in and bets higher on the wrong card... The scammer then says "sorry, i have to go with the higher bet" and gives you your money back. All wins they payout are to partners in the crowd. Never ever play any game on the streets.

why the make it this hard, turn them around, fold them (bend) the other way around and perform the trick cards open, so you see how you scam by throwing the different one over
@DaddyBeanDaddyBean5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. There are three elements here - I'll call them the grip (picking up two cards in one hand), the throw (dropping the first or second card, seamlessly), and the shuffle (obvious) - and all three can be practiced independently, with the cards face up (bent the wrong way) so you can see what you're doing. You don't have to learn and practice the entire trick as a unit - learn each element, practice each element, start putting the elements together, and THEN turn the cards face-down. I practice false cuts & shuffles with the top card face up so I know immediately if I missed and can stop & correct it.

This tutorial is overly complicated in my opinion, I learned this track when I was 12 and never practiced 'picking up 2 cards with one hand'. Just pick up the 2 black cards using thumb and index finger with each hand and practice picking up the red card using your thumb and middle finger with each hand ( while holding the black cards ) . Show the red card , throw it to the other side , pick it up with the other hand , show it , and throw it back to the other hand , show it again. >>>
@JaSon-ex3zu9 жыл бұрын
I have been doing this one for 20+ years. It is impossible to detect when done properly - even for those who know the secret. In the very beginning, I quickly swing the hand holding the 2 cards under the other hand, concealing the release of the top (or bottom) card.

@Jhawks4LIFE8 жыл бұрын
When hes throwing down the top card, he's doing it too forcefully and picking up the pace of his 'shuffling.' That's a dead give away; throwing down the top card should be exactly like throwing the 3 card down. You have to believe yourself that you are throwing the correct card down to prevent inconsistencies in your movements giving away that you changed your pattern.

That's why I always say "don't hold two cards in one hand" because as you think the bottom card is being dropped, he is actually opening his fingers around the card over and slinging it down as if it's the bottom card being dropped. After he drops the first card the card left in that hand is always the odd card.....or better yet....good Palmer's actually switch out the card and there is no odd card...I beat New Orleans street hustlers by grabbing both outside cards and flipping them over and saying "middle card". What about the placement of the fingers? So this way you make people believe that you dropped the bottom one instead of the top one. BUT. I can't do it properly and I fuck up every time when I try to do it. I need more practice and this video was just the basic tutorial(not counting the people who are in on this game on the streets). Hope I explained this in such a manner that you can understand. The trick is easy. In the beginning he tosses the spade (the bottom card). In the switch up, he starts by tossing the King (the top card). Neat trick. I didn't even watch the tutorial, it was obvious because that is the only way to trick the eye into following the wrong card in a slow game.
@paulhamj61753 жыл бұрын
Um, no you are so wrong my little smart arse. That is certainly not the only way at all. Also, there are loads of moves to trick you and switch the cards at any point in the procedure, without ever even using that well known move, (the hype). I would love to perform this to you because people like yourself with a little bit of knowledge are actually easier to fool because I can turn that bit of knowledge right around and it be ones your weakness instead of any kind of advantage. All I need to do is passively convince you I have executed a move that you know about, when I haven't. Job done! And it is easy to know which moves you think you know about just by watching your eyes and what card you follow, especially after the hype, or false hyoe(that switch move in this video)

They play with two black jacks and a red one, and also show the cards and mix more along the way. When they want you to lose, they show both the red and a black jack to distract you, then they slide another black jack down in place of the red and pull it in after palming it.

As the person playing, you can easily make it a 50/50 game, by simply choosing one of the cards your brain *does not* think is correct. So, at worst you're playing a 50/50 game, but at best - you can keep track of the second card thrown, and make it a ~95/5 game (until the scammer picks up on what you're doing, of course).
