Disney uses bromine and not chlorine in their water rides, that's why they have a unique smell.

very important difference, bromine is more commonly used on indoor water. UV rays breakdown bromine faster then chlorine. i only know this because i wanted to make my swimming pool smell like pirates

Disney doesn't use chlorine on their water rides. They use Bromine. Bromine is self cleaning chemical unlike chlorine and is very expensive. That's why you never smell it anywhere else besides Disney. Everyone associates that smell with disney water rides.

You know, if it turns out that Sean can't smell, that would explain a lot of his more bizarre dining preferences... Smell and taste are intricately linked. When you eat, you are actually smelling food with your mouth as well as tasting and an inability to smell severely impairs how your brain interprets taste. No smell means all food is bland.

I used to work in the Magic Kingdom on Space Mountain and on my off days I would always go to Epcot. One smell I remember was on Spaceship Earth during the Fall of Rome Scene that 'Simulated Burning Smell' always brings me back, but the smell of Carousel of Progress was always something I looked forward too as well.

We've stayed at the beach club a dozen times. It's our home DVC resort and we've never noticed a seafood smell AT ALL unless maybe if you're right next to Cape May Cafe at dinner. The aroma is green clover and aloe. They sell candles of it and it smells just like the Beach Club and not at all like seafood.

The Land Pavillion is the most relaxing place for me. I normally start trips at Epcot and that smell tells me I’m really back, and that it’s not just a dream. Only got 11 days left til I get to go to Disney World for the 10th time!!!

great episode. there ARE scents pumped out on main street.... but main street confectionery just genuinely smells good. brings me in every time. think it's the cotton candy smell. that, pirates, and rome burning on spaceship earth are among my favorites. i also loved the smell of the great movie ride!!!! the robbery scene.

On the Keys to the Kingdom tour, our guide showed us the old system (now disconnected) they used to pump smells into Main St. They stopped using it however and just use ventilation from the shops to push out the real smells.

Where did you get yours? I got mine from an etsy shop called Maple and Whisky and it's uncanny beach club. I bought the candle but also the wax melts, which I thought worked better. However, I think what Joy Spies is suggesting, enviroscent is the actual scent Disney uses. But I believe it's also quite pricey. I was happy with the Maple and Whiskey scents.

The musty, swampy smell of the primeval diorama in Universe of Energy in Epcot. So nostalgic! ...along the lines of Rome is burning from Spaceship Earth. Unfortunately, Disney turned off the smellitizer in Energy several years ago (to save money), but you could still detect the smell from years of use. Definitely something I will miss now that Energy is permanently closed.

The Beach Club green clover and aloe scent is amazing. It’s a scent pumped through HVAC by Enviroscent. They actually sell a home unit called the ScentHD and you can order the same scent!

I agree with all the smells you guys mentioned. They’re instant smells that just make you happy. I’d love to add Space Mountain to mine. Once I walk in, that smell just takes me back to all my memories of riding it. As a Fort Wilderness guy, I would also love to mention the trading posts. The first thing my family does when we get there is go inside Meadows Trading Post, and that smell hits you right away. It’s such a unique smell and I love it!

Me and my 8 year old were just talking about the chlorine Pirates of the Caribbean smell right before we hit play and went crazy when it was the first thing mentioned. For me, even chlorine smells around resort pools trigger that general feeling of being on vacation. I’m glad y’all mentioned the Germany pavilion-I love this one also because I like anything that reminds me of Germany. I love the ocean fragrance in Soarin’ and Flight of Passage and the firecracker smells from Illuminations and Fantasmic, too.

This is why every trip I grab a small aerosol from Bath and Body for our hotels. The smell takes you back, instantly. I love Florida water! It's so different than Leominster water. I actually bring a bottle of it for the car ride home.

Rhino yes!!! The beach club lobby smell is the BEST! It smells like how I imagine a great beach boardwalk area would smell. Especially in the morning. Yes, at night the closer you get to cape may the seafood smell becomes strong which only adds to the beach smell to me. I found a candle by acccident at urban outfitters that smells exactly like the beach club lobby. Makes me in the best mood whenever I light it!

Also, the Main Street Smellitzer changes out it's scent seasonaly (at least at Disneyland). They use a vanilla base for most of the year, but for the winter holidays, they trade it out for peppermint. :D

OMG I walked in the back way at the Grand Floridian last December and the smell of gingerbread from the Gingerbread house was out of the world, I can still smell it almost 6 months later. If you ever have a chance go there at Christmas you won't regret it

When I first saw this pop up I was excited because I thought it was hotel related. All of the resorts at wdw smell so good. People think I'm weird for noticing but all of the resorts presser out different smells. I even bought a shampoo that smells like one of the resort I stayed at, nostalgia everytime

My favorite Disney smell is definitely the Polynesian lobby. It has nothing to do with the air conditioning or even the restaurants there. They obviously pipe some sort of scent in there. It's a light, flowery, airy type smell. It's very distinctive. It would make a lovely perfume.

Ok, this is going to sound kind of weirdly goofy, but it's the comfort stations at Fort Wilderness. Whatever scent it is that they're using, I actually look forward to it when we first arrive at the Fort--it makes me feel like we've finally made it home. True scoop.

The first time we rode Avatar Flight of Passage my wife went straight to the gift store hoping to buy a perfume or room spray with the scent from the ride. She's also stocked up on the Layla perfume sold in the Norway pavilion before it was re-themed to Frozen.

All of the Deluxe resorts (the others, too) have machines that pump scent into the air. You can buy the home version of the machine Disney uses and the exact scent cartridges the resorts use.
