Thank you for this footage. I have spent many a happy hour on that long bridge watching steam trains take a running start up Honiton Incline.

I can remember this station when it was working in the mid 60s. It was actually quite busy on Summer Saturdays when the holiday camps in Seaton changed occupants. Trains would arrive from London and the Midlands on Platform 2, and passengers would change onto a Western Region branch line DMU train for Colyton, Colyford and Seaton on the curved southbound platform 3. There was a buffet between these two platforms and this got quite busy as people waited for connections. On the far side of the station was a milk depot, with sidings and tank wagons shunted by diesel engines. From Seaton Down Hill, I watched the very last train (a 6 car DMU, I think) leave from Seaton on March 7th 1966. Seaton Junction closed for passengers the same day.

Steam finished on the Branch Line in 1963/4, but the failing DMUs meant that in February 1965, two WR Class 14xx 0.4.2 Tank Loco's returned for a coupe of months! They used ex WR Auto Trailers. They then went to Exeter and were there in store in 1965 before both going for preservation, with one running at Totnes I think it is?

I'm building this area too. Do contact if you need any further info. I too used the Peco Kits to create the long Foot-Bridge.

Seaton Junction station isn’t near any substantial villages/towns. It was only ever an interchange for the branch line, and there was no justification for it once the branch closed. Its location may however have saved it from becoming an industrial estate/housing/a supermarket, as so many have, and the still regular trains passing through makes it less attractive as a dwelling. Would be nice to see it suitably repurposed.
