“Even on those days when you’re feeling the most beautiful, not everyone is going to agree. They may never. It requires a certain courage, a certain craziness, to be able to live life without compromise, to step out the door and risk ridicule. When someone calls another individual ugly, all I see is that the one doing the insulting becomes instantly less beautiful. Consider it a compliment to be mocked for being beautiful; energy is never expended on mediocrity.” -- Dita von Teese

I love that the male host was un-self conscious and direct with his questions and attitude regarding "feminine" interests like beauty, fashion, and lingerie. I've noticed that many males in this situation subtly degrade the subject or low-key distance themselves from the subject with "jokes" or a certain kind of attitude to preserve their male identity. He treated Dita, her career, and her interests as valid and worthy of interest.

She’s the living embodiment of authenticity, sexy intelligence, class, art, elegance, timelessness and womanhood. All in one package. And as Dita said, it’s hard to find all that in one package. Dita is a living legend. An inspiration that anyone can be glamorous. And for that I’ll always love her ❤️

I grew up from West Branch like Dita Von Teese. She has been inspiration especially since the town is very suppressing. After watching videos of her Burlesque shows and interviews, she has helped motivate me to be myself and also sexualize myself with taste. I am so glad I learned who she was when I was a teenager 6 years ago.

This is honestly one of the best interviews with Dita that I've ever seen. The gentleman conducting it asked questions that were intelligent and thoughtful, and he truly paid attention to her responses as well. In so many interviews with Dita, she's asked silly questions, the interviewer isn't listening to her responses, there's too much fangirling going on (which isn't offensive, but does limit the depth of the conversation), or the person either has an agenda, or has an attitude suggesting that they're either jealous of Dita, or threatened by her. This wasn't like that at all, and it was such a relief....as I'm sure it was for Dita as well!

Best Book ever! Not only a Beauty book, but health, exercise, interior design, automobiles, cooking, relationships, couture everything! The most intelligent, creative, fascinating woman of our times. I bought Dita’s book immediately, bought an extra just in case, then I bought all my girlfriends, cousins, colleagues a copy as well. I have been wearing makeup since the age of 3 and, at that age, I was doing my mom’s makeup. Having said that, no one does it better than Dita! I absolutely adore Dita and admire her so much! Fabulous interview! Thank you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I liked her comment about wearing things that make you feel good about yourself. This made me think about how I had comments told to me that if I changed my hair or painted my nails or did eyeliner, lipstick was that i was trying to impress others. But for me doing those things was to make me happy. Because I liked a shade of lipstick or hair color/cut, or I felt like painting my nails because I liked the color or was bored. I don’t change my look for others i do it for myself.

Even though this woman has got an unquestionable charm, I must admit she's a little disappointing in some of her statements.. when she says that she gains confidence with her lipstick on and the clothes that she likes... well, a really confident person doesn't rely on clothes, not even on a lipstick.. or when she says that she celebrates being a woman every day... well, a woman doesn't need make up to celebrate the woman she is, that's for sure.. or when she says she wanted to be the opposite of who she was born.. this sounds a statement from an insecure character.. maybe she is pretending to be something she is not, I wonder if she's aware of that..
@ptboy184 жыл бұрын
She's not claiming to be this unbreakable stone cold confident human. I think you're holding her to a standard that no human can achieve which really isn't her role to play. We all have something that helps us shield ourselves from the world or helps us be the best person we can be. If that's lipstick or maybe a nice hair cut , a beard, or tweezer eyebrows, then who cares?
@EddaAlma4 жыл бұрын
@@ptboy18 well, I feel what you say, of course we are just humans, we all have flaws, nobody's perfect, and Dita is the same, from her words I can feel she maybe has been insecure in her past, but that's normal, and it's ok to pursue more strength through some behaviors or attitudes or habits, but I guess the most powerful way to achieve confidence is acceptance. Accepting who we are and respect who we are, on the inside above all. This society says to us we need to change something about ourselves to fit in, or to be more likable... to me, charm is something you have as a gift, and all the makeup in the world cannot change something you have inside
