Had with the R8 AF problems, until today I don’t know what the problem was, but mainly I was turned off by the FF lens sizes and prices. Regarding your comment at 6:00, I got out the A6700 and tried that and it did just what you described. If you go into the MENU; Setup; Power Setting Option; Power Save by Monitor, then select " Does Not Link", you will find that the viewfinder will no longer be blank until half-press. Who's dumb now?? (LOL). I own an A6700, it's a wonderful camera. I like the Ai features, particularly the AF and the smaller size compared to my Sony FF A7iii. However, the FF A7iii delivers much better IQ than does the APS-C 6700. My wife and I recently shot a wedding and the A7iii images were by-far superior. As far as video, I shoot next to no video on the A7iii but my wife loves the A6700 for video after moving to it from a dedicated Sony video camera. Cheers!!

I bought a 6700 last month to replace my aging a6400 (I switched to Canon Full-Frame a couple years ago, but slowly migrating back to Sony for various reasons) as my daily walk-around photo camera and for video creation. I have only a couple of minor gripes with my a6700, a) When continuous shooting, if I rotate the camera it doesn't register the orientation as vertical. So, they need to be rotated in post. Just wish the camera would update the orientation on its own. I may do this when a walking subject gets closer or further away to me. b) The usb-c port is horizontal rather than vertical. Sometimes I like to tether using a right-angled cable (to stop the cable sticking out and putting pressure on the port), so its actually quite a big deal for me. This means I basically have to stick with my full-frame for tethered shooting. c) Lack of second card slot, which personally I don't really mind but the redundancy would be nice to have. I don't care when tethered, as I have the photos on the computer and the camera but see "b" :D Otherwise, if those weren't there, I think it would be my favorite camera I own.

Full frame always trumps aps-c if you’re comparing similar camera levels. Arri’s are super 35, but saying I bought the fx30/a6700 because Hollywood movies shoot on s35 is completely wrong. Neither of those sensors come close to arri or red.
@Frametime_CH2 ай бұрын
You might be right if you are a photografer but for videos there are a lot of advantages to apsc. More range with the same lenses, smaller formfactor for gimbal, bigger cinelens selection to name a few. And since you hardly ever shoot wide open videos the lose in depth of field is not a big problem.
@Marcus_Visbal2 ай бұрын
@ I would argue the advantages of full frame for video are even more pertinent. And you retain more bokeh when stopped down vs losing it from sensor size. So you’ll get more bokeh with a better target for focusing.
@Frametime_CH2 ай бұрын
@@Marcus_Visbal Yes and no. What makes you lose bokeh on apsc is your lense choice. a 50mm 1.4 has the same bokeh on apsc, as on fullframe. but the crop is different. standing further away makes you lose the bokeh (narrow depth of field). Thats why lens selection is very important on apsc but you can get lenses for apsc as low as 11mm for a fair price. now it realy depents on usecase. if you use a 18mm-55mm, you get the exact same bokeh as 24mm-70mm on fullframe. in the end its all a cost-benefit calculation. for most shots i do at least (corp. video portraits and live production) there is no need to go fullframe. but i couldnt live without my a7iv when it comes to photografy and some videos can realy benefit from full frame (close ups and low light shots) but i dont think its is wort the extra price for many people

this was going to be my go to sports camera but the very thing that turned me down was the 1/4000 mechanical maximum shutter speed. That was a deal breaker because it pretty much meant i wouldn't be able to actually freeze action, i would have to stop down the lenses (consequently losing light and subject separation) and the worst of all, that I would have to buy filters for all my lenses. Also regarding the screens: the a7rv screen still tilts to a side, making it quite uncomfortable. If you have been in photography for more than 6 years you would have heard of the screen of the sony a99/a77/a99ii/a77ii, it's basically a full HD 60hz rate screen that can sit on top and flip over to take the cleanest selfies, while you're looking at the lens.

@@doplinger1 Because of that, I'm thinking about upgrading (from a6500) to a7CR. Basically same form factor as the a6xxx Series and you have two cameras in one. in APS-C crop, it's still 26mp, which is enough for 99% of what I do (so would even run FF in 26mp mode) and I could keep my APS-C lenses if I want to travel light, but in the rare case more resolution is needed, it's there. With the FF and APS-C mode options, one lense basically becomes two. 30mm works as a 50something, and 85mm as 125-130. I'm just reluctant because of the price which is also more than double of the a6700.

Full frame lenses are (usually) higher quality than APS-C lenses. They are also heavier and much more expensive. Lenses are usually softest at the corners, so if you shoot FF on APS-C, the corners of the lens are not used - the APS-C image is using the "meat" of the lens. If you are thinking about upgrading from APS-C to FF in the future, then try to buy FF lenses instead of APS-C. I have an A6700 and an A7RC. I only bought a couple of APS-C lenses but I have a bunch of FF lenses and I use them on the A6700 quite a lot, especially the long ones.

The fx30 is better and you have the peace of mind that your camera wont overheat but go ahead get the a6700 and when it overheats dont say i didnt warn you. I love shooting 4k 120 fps S+Q when im solo filming myself for track and field reps(block starts) however try this with the a6700 and it will overheat fairly quickly.

Fx30 is the best camera you can get for that price range if the crop factor is a concern just get a wide angle lens like the e11 f1.8 its pretty much 17mm ff equivalent, the only other real benefit to those FF is better low light(getting really fast aperture lenses can help to negate this on an aps-c i use a 7artisans t1.05 if i am doing anything in lowlight just have to prepared to learn manual focusing its very easy with a little practice) and wider in tight spaces otherwise the images are very very similar. Only real reason to stick with the A6700 is if you are primarily into photography(need the EVF) and or need burst photography otherwise i think the FX30 is better and never have to worry about overheating. Why do you think the camera is cheaper and smaller? it will overheat... not worth it, going to drive you insane!!!!

@@jaredazriel If you plan on doing 120p then better get FX30....for many videographers, they do not shoot 120p for that long. I have 0 overheat issue with 24p and 60p and I live in Thailand (it's damn hot) but I don't do long form video much only short ones. The longest I have done is 2-hour session of live music band (4K24p) with short pauses between each song....no overheat issue.

Nothing, nothing compares to quality of full size sensor. I've been down this path before. Go sell your snake oil somewhere else. How much did Sony pay you?
