I am the nephew of one of the late owners of Marie. Marie forms a huge part of my core memories as a child with my father and uncle and cousins mucking around on the water with her on the West Coast of Scotland. To say she has influenced my life is an understatement. I lost touch with her after the fire. At the time I was leaving to go to university to study Naval Architecture and starting to carve my own life, and I thought she had been truly scrapped. To see her now restored as she is and to know that a family has spent their lives with Marie doing just what we did with her is truly heart warming. My late uncle would have been beyond overjoyed to see this. His love was also one of mucking about with boats and making them his own. Myself and my young family are now living onboard our own yacht as we sail round the world - Marie as you can imagine has had no small part in influencing this. I look forward to seeing the results of the replank! Best Regards Chris Dowie SY Ragdoll

Hello there. This was my Dads boat before the fire my cousin has already commented. It is so special to see the restoration of such a special boat. My dad would have been delighted to see her being cared for, we had a few boats growing up but Marie was his favourite! Lots of fun memories. The old photo you have was in Ardfetn I think where she was berthed. Thank you for sharing this , sadly my dad couldn’t see this but it has made my mum happy this evening.

I will never understand how this channel doesn't have multiple millions of subs and views - just about the best production of any kind that hasn't been done by an actual film studio/tv channel/streaming service with a huge budget. This absolutely needs and fully deserves to be show on mainstream TV and it deserves to earn enough money for Goodwin to have those new tubes, and more. More than that, it deserves to win awards. In a world that often seems to be a sinister and foreboding place, this series is a fantastic spark of real escapism.

Each modification has made Goodwin stronger, safer, mire modern and extends her useful life. The information on the different rib materials, valves, pumps, glues, construction techniques are invaluable. Transported to a modern day shipyard to repair and reinforce Goodwin's bow area. Then back in time to an older wood shipyard with sawmill, steam boxes, wood planks for Marie's above water repairs. A swim, jellyfish, good food and company on a boat delivery. Finally getting Goodwin assembled, painted and tubes glued and reinforced. Incorporating an accessible zippered warerproof bow covering. Protecting the bow and hull sides. Goodwin is ready to soar again. Harry you have a knack for storytelling, panoramic drone footage, introducing us to some unique and specialty builders or fabricators.

love the pictures of the keel boats leaving Whitby for the Herring, When I was about 4 or 5 years old I lived on the cliff top at Whitby, and when me and my brothers were sent to bed, we used to stay awake, then watch out the window as the boats left the pier ends, after about 1 hour as it got dark (about 10.30pm), the sea about 6 miles out was lit up like a big town along the horizon. My oldest brother was about 8, and at around 4 or 5am we were up and off down to watch them come back in, not only were their holds full but the scuppers were blocked off and deck partitioned off with boards to stop the fish loaded on deck from washing about or going overboard. On flat calm days the boats were nearly sinking with the over laden catch. the fish were lifted by basket (3 baskets to the cran, if I remember right) straight from the boat onto waiting lorries at the quay side. there was always a gap between the mooring bollards at the quay side edge and the lorries, and we young lads used to run along between the lorries and the edge of the quay like ball boys at tennis and collect any fish that fell out of the baskets. by 8 or 9am we would have a box full and we would set up a stall on pier road two fish boxes for legs and one across the top as a counter, and lay the herring out selling them for 1d (penny) for small ones 2d for middle size and 3d or threpence for big ones. we made quite a lot of money!
