I've sailed on many pleasure craft - power and sail - but none have ever felt well laid out. This one does - it's a true working boat and it shows. I'm stunned at the engine room - it must be a dream to work in. My only surprise was the halyards being on the mast. I would have expected them to be drawn into the cockpit, so no crew would ever have to be on deck when reefing. I did appreciate the surfeit of winches - it's good to have many and to be multi-purpose.

Skip Novak is an absolute genius! The Vinson of Antarctica is a real masterpiece, because it has everything that is needed for survival, with human safety and comfort features in every area of the sailing vessel. There are many manually operated features and back up systems to the back up systems. I do believe that the anchor can be electrically operated and the steering is powered, but I bet that it has a manual back up rudder system.

The thing is that most charter boats are designed to optimise the space for guests, so the designer makes the engine room as small as he can get away with. In this case the boat has been designed with other priorities, good access to all the essential mechanical and electrical systems has been moved right up the list.

...bit like the last guy who commented - sailed all my life - my first Sydney-Hobart was the infamous 1998 - so I've carried with me the need for safety and smart design ever since as Ive made single handed storm sailing (or as windy as it gets) my own little frontier of exploration . So to listen to Skip talk is like hearing GOD as few would truly understand the depth and quality of the information he is giving ... I have learnt to prepare for everything and for everything to happen at the same time ... don't make the first mistake as one just cascades into the next and so on ... its how people are hurt and boats lost ... and also that situations are just a product of time on the water - the more time you spend on the water - the higher the probability things will go wrong - so have plan A, B, C already rehearsed in your head ... blah blah ...I'm preaching Skip - I think I get it why you venture into that insane place - its the adrenalin and risk - coupled with the meticulous planning and control .... its the adrenalin junky who also has the skill to manage his risk - well almost all of it - so don't go and die OK- you're a true legend mate

As someone who usually hates modern boats and ships built from steel and plastic I have to say this is an amazing yacht! One can really tell how much thought went into this and everything is perfectly placed, convenient, relevant, just exactly as it should be. It feels like it was really built as a tenth or twelfth iteration of a yacht after doing these sorts of trips for decades and improving the things that didn't work each time. The experience is really visible. I never thought I'd say this about a non-wodden boat but I really wanna sail on this!

I don't know why I watched this, but I'm glad I did! What an amazingly well planned boat. I was looking at some super yachts on KZbin the other week and I couldn't help thinking the people who would sail in such boats, wouldn't really know what to do with them. One of them even had gold taps (faucets!) This boat was brilliant and I agree - luxury. Again, I don't know why I was in this territory, I once spent about six hours wedged in the forward head, alternately puking and dozing, en route to Cherbourg in a 42ft Seastream. As an engineer, I couldn't help thinking; what happens if this fails; can I get at that; can we carry a spare gidget? And the answer, it seems is yes! I think its the first boat I've seen (that doesn't have guns on,) that has a dedicated workshop space, that isn't a scabby record vice clamped to a stringer in some hell hole locker. If you could stop me being dreadfully sick in any kind of sea, I'd love to crew that boat. I'm only 75, but I'm sure I could stand a watch and turn a hand to most things! That is a beautiful, beautiful boat - not so much to look at, as be in!

I was admiring their workshop too, the only thing they didn't bring out was a lathe, or getting with the 2022 program:-), a 3d printer.. I wonder if they have one hidden somewhere.

Did I see only one head? This is a superb build. The level of detail is astounding. Safety is obviously job number one with this architect.

This is a boat I really like. Well designed and really made for sailing long distances in far remote areas. And I really like his last statement: what more do you need.

I've been on a proper sailboat once in my life......that said "wow!" How does water drain in the mid deck area where the central winch is? For us total noobies some still shots of the different sail conditions as he explained would have been great. Amazing boat, incredible guy that Skip Novak. Cheers.

This is absolutely magnificent!!! I am adverse to modern day electronics. This is great because you know that, no matter what, you can keep control of what you need to accomplish.

Now this really makes me dream ! Much more than these luxurious ships with golden taps and precious wood marquetry.... I could live on a ship like this forever and sail all oceans.
