I actually left the WW forums after a Lifetimer got belligerent with me over cooked vs. raw oats on Simply Filling. I couldn't understand why 1/2c of cooked oats were 0 points, but 1/2c of overnight oats were 4 (not counting add ins like fruit and almond milk). She got so ugly about the subject that it made me think some people take this stuff way too extreme. If it works for you, it works for you ;)

I guess I need to read the zero point foods list a little closer. (About a month ago I noticed dates were on it, just like old school “Core” program.) . I did not realize that cooked oatmeal was zero. I love oatmeal and I just didn’t want to give up 4 points for it. Maybe I will re-think it.
@alohalivin556
@alohalivin556 6 жыл бұрын
So confused here - I just restarted WW and the first time on freestyle 😐 ok, so 1/2 cup of any style of oatmeal makes 1 cup cooked (the difference the various types of oatmeal has to do with how refined they are, how close one is to the original form of the oat - faster cooking types are more processed)?? I have oatmeal every morning with fruit and in the past program it was five points and in this program is coming up is for. So I guess I need to look harder at that list - of course I have 1 cup of prepared oats a day. My guess is that they are referring steel cut oats when they say “overnight oats” as those require a much longer cooking time and are unrefined/unprocessed. Actually they pretty good (just expensive) 😒. But then why would someone care about your interpretation to the point they were angry? She clearly needed something more productive to do with her time!

What you’re doing with the RX bars I’m going to start doing. Also just started doing daily harvest cups. One cup that has nothing but vegetables except for a little olive oil and a little yeast is five points. So basically I’m just gonna track the olive oil and the yeast because there’s no way all of those other zero point items come up to five points. So glad I saw this video that’s awesome. I’ve been at rebel since day one.

I’m an insulin dependent diabetic, and every time I lose about 4-5 pounds, I need an adjustment to my insulin. But, there’s this little in between time where my blood sugar just starts to drop all the time (and then I know to change it). According to WW, I’m supposed to track ~4 points for literally any source of sugar in a high enough quantity to raise it. BUT, if you are LOW in blood sugar, your body will suck that up and metabolize it immediately. So, anything I use for the specific purpose of raising blood sugar, I refuse to count - it’s medically necessary. Now, if I want gummy bears just for having gummy bears, I’ll track them.

I don't track ketchup. I'll include it if I'm using a lot of it (like the 1/4-1/2 c I mix into meatloaf), but if I'm dipping a food into ketchup, I don't track. Also, I get really annoyed with the way they delegate activity points. I thoroughly enjoy a great workout, and if I do high intensity cardio for 30 minutes, I earn 7 activity points, but they only give me 5 to eat up in my weeklies; HOWEVER, if I do 30 minutes of "heavy-ish" weight lifting, but my heart rate isn't revved the entire time like it is when I do cardio, I only earn 3 smart points and am given 1 extra smart point in my weeklies. I usually make myself a 3-4 point protein shake to drink after my workout, so if I did heavy lifting, I just don't track the protein shake to make up for the points that WW didn't give me! :)

I track my avocados less. I like 1/4 or at the most 1/2 a haas avo on toast sometimes. I don’t really love eggs, so I don’t benefit from those being 0; I’d rather a bit of avo. So I track them at about half the SP, but try to only do that a couple times a week. I just don’t feel like forcing down an egg instead to save points.

My understanding is that when you blend or dry fruit, your body will absorb the sugar much faster and store it as fat too fast for your body to be able to utilize it as energy first. So i track all smoothies and dried fruits the way they say to. But i agree that bending the rules to suit you will give your healthy lifestyle longevity :)

When I did WW back in 2016, I didn't track my morning coffee. I was always so frustrated trying to measure it out until I liked it and see the number of points it was (I couldn't do the sugar free creamers, blah), I just decided to not track it and see what happened. I justified it by saying I only drank one "cup" a day (not measured) and didn't add sugar to it (just the sugar in the creamer) I should be alright. And I was. I still made goal. I will be joining WW again soon since I need to get back to goal and have since found a trackable and sufficient replacement for my creamer, the Premiere Protein shakes. I haven't decided whether I will track the 2 points or not, but I do know that I did fine without tracking my 10+ point coffee in the past.

I’m a rebel right along with you. I’m team nopointsforblended fruit and, as someone who has done Whole 30 to discover & eliminate certain items that don’t work well for me, RXBars, Kombucha & those fruit bars from TJs were things I had all the time. Your way of tracking is something I will try. I restarted WW in January after a long hiatus and finding a few of you on YT who share tips & tricks to try has been great. I have an issue with tracking points for pasta sauce (clean brands or homemade). If I get into the “moral dilemma” debate I often check the scanner vs calculator. “WW Math” can be so confusing sometimes. I like, on occasion, MIO iced mocha java flavor enhancer. In the scanner it’s 1 sp, in the calculator it’s 0. It has almost the same ingredients as Crystal Light flavor enhancers and they scan as 0. I’ve decided not to count that either.

My rule breaker is regarding Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt. If you buy oikos triple zero nonfat plain greek yogurt, they tell you it is zero for a container. Fruit is zero points. But...if you buy say, blueberry oikos triple zero nonfat plain greek yogurt, you are supposed to count 3 points! So . Since my flavored ' 0 added sugar, 0 artificial sweetners, 0 fat, 15 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber FLAVORED greek yogurt, I refuse to count any more points for it than i would the plain nonfat greek yogurt. I'm having a hard time with CHICKEN THIGHS. They are so much cheaper and tastier than chicken breast. BECAUSE OF THE FAT CONTENT. It is common knowledge that eating fat wont make your fat (for example the ketogenics diet). Chicken breast is now 0sp. Before Freestyle 3oz of chicken breast was 2sp, and 3oz of chicken thighs were 3sp. I feel like I should only have to count that 1sp difference. I am still counting chicken thighs at their full points but I am really toying with the idea of switching and then seeing how it goes as far as weight loss. anyone else agree? am I crazy?

I refuse to count fat-free Cool Whip or (shocking!) avocados. I read an article saying that if a woman eats half an avocado a day and makes no other changes, over a period of time she will lose five pounds. I don't eat a lot of avocados, but I do not count them when I do. If my creamer is fat-free or sugar-free, I count one point per day, even if I have more than one coffee in a day.

I like how you think. I've struggled with things like Plain Greek Yogurt is 0 smart points, but Triple 000 yogurt only sweetened with fruit and stevia have 3 points. What???? And why does fat free cottage cheese have points if Greek Yogurt doesn't? Cottage Cheese has more protein and is a slightly better choice for weight loss. I love the idea of making the program make sense for what is working for me.
@DivaandtheDivine

I am so with you on this! I think there are other options that could be legit substitutes. The only thing I can think of for cottage cheese is the sodium. That could get out of hand rather quickly.

Definitely #teamnocountblendedfruit! If I was having multiple smoothies a day I may count them but if it's just once - Not going to happen! Great idea about the Rx Bars - I never thought of that and I've stay away from even trying them because the points are so high. Currently, I only eat half a Larabar because the points are high and in order for me to maintain I can't go too much over 23 SPs. And like Rx Bars they are only dates, fruit and nuts so I'm going to do a bit of experimenting and see what happens. If my weight goes up then I know breaking this rule is not for me! Thanks for the great tips

If you need to use an amount that is that high in points, then I suggest using something else for your coffee creamer. Try fat free half and half. Much lower in points and still makes coffee creamy. I've been using Natural Bliss creamer, but only 1/2 a tbsp in the mornings.

I've always been a meet-in-the-middle person for certain things. For example, plain, fat free yogurt is 0 points, but the brand of full-fat, plain yogurt that I prefer is 7 points for a full cup. The fat-free version of the same point would be 2 points if counting based on nutritional facts. So, my compromise is to count 5 points for the full-fat. Because, I'm sorry, but plain yogurt is plain yogurt. I just cannot imagine people are overeating full-fat plain yogurt. If anything, people eat LESS of it because it's so rich. I also don't count points for smoothies (I also rarely have smoothies). I follow the old adage: "Let your weight loss be your guide." I do count my Synergy, but I've debated it. I honestly don't drink it all that much, but it's my go-to when I have a cold. So, I guess I treat it more like medicine than a drink. (I also don't count cough drops or cough medicine- and the cough medicine I take is a whole-foods based medicine that uses pure honey). I think not counting it, in your case, makes plenty of sense. You're not drinking it as a treat or a beverage. You're drinking it as MEDICINE. (The entire bottle is 2 Smartpoints by the way; you can also buy larger bottles at some stores, so that might be an option). I've never been into the RX bars, but maybe I haven't found the right flavor. There's a RX bar for kids in Apple Cinnamon that looks pretty good. (Apple Pie is my favorite Larabar flavor). I think counting 3-4 points for the RX bar could make sense, but I don't think I'd eat them every day. What I need are options for emergency snacks when I'm out/on the go. Plus, if I did this, I'd probably be more likely to eat a little under my daily target and/or not touch weeklies, so I suppose that would technically even things out, but keep me in the game, mentally. I've also decostructed the Starbucks Egg and Cheese protein box ingredients (weighing out the cheese and everything). Instead of the 16 or so points WW says it is, I only count 10 points: 2 points for half an ounce of cheddar cheese, 3 points for the honey peanut butter, and 5 points for the museli bread. Why would I count points for the grapes, apples, and eggs?

@@DivaandtheDivine Update: I am now in love with the sea salt dark chocolate Rx bars. I definitely think I'm going to try counting the nuts only (though, I may do 4 because of the chocolate), but also follow the same rule you have for your TJ fruit bars in regards to drinking water with the Rx Bar. Of course, with that logic, I should only count the points for the nuts in a Larabar. Unfortunately, I can't put the number of almonds, walnuts, and cashews from my Larabar into my tracker. [I generally only eat half a Larabar at one time when I do eat them].

I don’t count fruit in smoothies either! The other thing that i refuse to count is skim milk. I LOVE milk and it’s 3sp for a cup. I noticed that since it went up to 3 sp from 2 points plus i quit drinking it very often.thats not good for me since i am in my 50s. I should be getting 3 servings of dairy a day. So i decided that if i drink skim milk i will not count it. It’s only 80 calories and my body needs it. Such a rebel!
