Crazy right? Not sure if it is all species of surfperch, but I definitely had the same thing happen in So Cal with a totally different species, so I am guessing it applies to all of them. Yeah, that Bibimbap was killer! She did such a great job!

I was fishing in Alaska with my daugher and her husband. I started preparing a fire to cook lunch. I had made feather sticks and gatered all the other wood sizes. They came up and told me to go fishing and they would start the fire. So off I went and got same salmon and large Rainbows(4+) lbs. I came back and they had a nice fire going. Cool I thought and said so. Well my son who was with us let it slip they had actually used a cup of gasoline to start the fire. LOL. I always had put a road flare in my kids ski packs.

Your videos are high in real (not marketing) content and love for the detail. I learn so much watching your videos and beside that it’s very entertaining. I’m sure you’ll grow very fast over the next couple of month. I hope you’ll keep the great work and level of „sponsorfree“ information. Thank you 👍🏻

Thanks bud! That means a lot! I am completely open to reviewing outdoor related products, but those reviews will be true and based on real field testing. Bottom line is that if I do not like the product, in the end I will state exactly that. If a totally awesome outdoor company wants to sponsor a video, I could certainly be open to that, but you will not be hearing me stating how great some random company is that has absolutely nothing to do with our content if they were to offer us cash to do so. The channel is about adventure, food, laughter, passion for the outdoors, and informing folks on how to do this stuff and do it safely. That is how we aim to keep it!

I hate to say it man, but last I heard they had to close down. Pretty sad, but as abalone populations were so decimated by the purple sea urchin explosion, CAL DFW had to shut down the ab fishery until at least 2021... and many local businesses felt the economic hit from that. It really is pretty sad as that was such a great shop and they are such awesome people!

Should take more of the purple sea urchins, those are invasive species. great video and content! Subscribers from now!
@catchncookcalifornia1574
@catchncookcalifornia1574 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Actually purple sea urchins (strongylocentrotus purpuratus) are not invasive, however they have been acting like it recently. The reason their population is unchecked is due to the death of their main predator (sea stars). This in turn has led to a major purple urchin population boom which then has decimated our kelp beds... but I agree, we should all take as many as legally possible to help the kelp forests come back! Cheers.

The shop is Subsurface Progression in Fort Bragg (Mendocino County). Neboshi? Is that what the cooking of little fish is called? Super tasty! There is HUGE overpopulation of sea urchin right now all along the CA coast... as crazy as it sounds, if we do not all get out and harvest a lot of urchin ASAP, we may have to say "good buy" to our once-magnificent kelp forests and the fish we love so much that occupy them! Full video on that issue coming soon.

Is eating the baby fish weird? Chicken gets coated in egg before it's breaded and fried.

People say that but I sincerely doubt that a warden would sweat someone on it if they discovered that their perch was pregnant while they were cleaning fish... unless that person was incredibly rude to the warden (which I have unfortunately seen many times) in which case that person might have a problem lol. It pays to be kind!

Patti, thanks! We saw your other comment (not sure where it went) but yes, I was a bit quick with the rock crab on the first dive. I grabbed it quickly to hold it by the back legs to not hurt it (though it seemed pretty intrusive) and so it would not hurt me, and after showing it to the camera I released it just as quickly. While editing, I remember thinking that it looked unnecessarily aggressive, but the crab was fine and the reason I let it go so quickly was that they are adapted to crack clams and mussels and tegula... meaning that when a rock crab gets a human finger, the finger turns to splinters. Rest assured, the rock crab was quite alright. Thanks for watching!

@@catchncookcalifornia1574 I deleted the first comment because I felt silly. Sorry about that. I realize that you know a lot more about what you're doing than I do, like I said, I am just sensitive! Thanks a bunch for the reply, and I will always be watching, and enjoying your videos!!!
