Its small enough to wear as standard watch also on a liveaboard for example and not having (email, text) notifications is a plus, im on holiday relaxing. I have the Garmin Descent G1(non-solar) - As someone moving towards either technical or divemaster it was a great choice (especially secondhand in great condition and very affordable). It's a big step up from my old Suunto Zoop (non-Novo! That old!). The Descent G1 is awesome, like noted, above and below water. A close competitor to a traditional "smartwatch". My problem and the reason I drrool over the Garmin MK3i 51mm? Presbyopia (I need reading glasses) - I just can't read the small screen fonts 1/2 the time. Having a bigger, better, brighter display will make a *huge* difference. Ohhh, Air Integration too... like, duh! So journey progression will be towards Air Integration, and for a dedicated "smart watch" that does all of the tech diving plus everything else + air.... Clear winner for me. Great video! Gracias!

Good overall review with very detailed differentiators helping with ‘Who is this computer for.’ I really liked that. Thanks for showing a wide variety of price points as well as highlighting readability. I have some older pucks and a Peregrine TX. The readability and ease of use on the Shearwaters is amazing and consistent across their entire line and I would buy another like a Perdix or Teric if I wanted to do more Tec diving. The actual battery life was a unique group test and some great data with a few big surprises. You also nailed why so many are hesitant on the Apple Watch - the lockout potential kept me away…. The subscription deters many unnecessarily, as you noted because if one dives a few times a year … and all in a one or two week period it’s a good deal economically. Also appreciated seeing the new Suunto as compared to Teric and MK3s…. Screen looks amazing, but your coverage of usability was very insightful. So many great choices. Did you notice any differences algorithmically/diversified time and deco response in their implementations? Thanks for such a thorough set of reviews.

In the bottom tier I understand taking the established values, but as a new diver I went with the astonishing aqualung i330r, which is holding its ground quite firmly offering also nitrox capabilities and free dive mode, while also having a colour screen and rechargeable battery. But if I may dream, I would of course go for the Garmin Mk3i. The air integration I find is a big difference with the descent as well. I want to better my air consumption and therefore an air integrated watch would be very helpful to analyse at what moments my air consumption goes up. For that specific reason the Suunto Ocean has an important edge. It has air integration, cost considerably less, and is a sport watch all around. As I am a hiker and horseback rider, this is the one I am particularly saving for! I subscribed to the newsletter as I certainly do appreciate the well tested reviews

Great video. My favorite is the Garmin Descent Mk3i 43mm because I dive all year round, both on vacation and in cold lakes and would use it very often. It would also replace my Garmin Fenix 5 as an everyday watch to track my other activities like swimming, biking or running. And the Dive Computer/ watch can also record all the other activities that I do from time to time on vacation, such as skiing, sailing, windsurfing. Since some of my dives are deeper than 40m and i do technical diving too, the Garmin Fenix 8 is unfortunately not sufficient, as it has better smartwatch features, but is unfortunately only sufficient for 40m

The Fenix 8 is obviously playing against the Apple Watch Ultra. In terms of diving they are kind of the same level with the 40m rating, no AI, no gas change. While Apple in my opinion is the better smartwatch, Garmin is more focussed on sports. So, the Fenix 8 has battery life on their side and especially no subscription model which makes it cheaper in the long run. And, as far as I know, they won’t lock you, if you drop below 40.

In addition to diving, I do a lot of mountain biking and trail running. So I needed a computer that doubles as a sports watch. I chose the Garmin brand because I previously owned one of their watches and was very satisfied with the performance and durability. The thing survived multiple MTB crashes over six years without so much as a scratch. I passed it on to a friend and it's still going strong. I specifically chose the MK3i because of the large screen size, the color maps, the air integration, and the complete array of dive capabilities. I am not currently a tech diver, but I may choose to become certified as one in the future. I want to have that functionality available in case I need it.

Been looking looking at shearwater for a first dive computer but garmin also looks good

Great video, congratulations for the professionalism and objectivity, I am attracted by the Garmin G1, even if the screen is small it still seems easy enough to read also for how the data is presented..

This is great! My Suunto is over ten years old so maybe it’s time to upgrade. The sheer water and Garmin are two I’m gonna have to look into

Has to be Garmin Mk3i (51mm) as it simply does everything so well The battery life is amazing. The dive logging is so detailed, the usual, depth, bottom time etc. but so smuch more: GPS coordinates of where you entered and where you exited the dive, water temp, gas consumption rate, and more and more. Track your gym workouts, sleep patterns, runs, ... what doesn't it do 😄 ... and I'm a regular Diveinn shopper 😉

Thanks for the video, comes right as I want to do my instructor course in a month My favorit out of them all has to be the garmin descent mk3(i) as it has a beautiful bright screen, tracks sleep and hr, can receive messages and the torch for emergencies. I also love doing other sports as Football and Tennis and would love to use that thing for pretty much everything! Since its launch I've been waiting for the mk2i to drop in price but it is still at around 1000€ which is way more than I can afford even tho it probably is absolut reasonable

Nice! Where are you doing your instructor course? Perhaps, look at a second-hand Mk2i - they might drop in price ass some divers are looking to replace the mk3i

This computer is very nice but the "beautiful bright screen" is not so beautiful and bright actually...

I'm brand new to diving and this was a big help! I'm bummed Samsung doesn't have something like the apple watch ultra... A dive computer with a transmitter sounds amazing!

Hi. Absolutely the Garmin Decent Mk3i… imo the best supporting software and ultimate device below and above water. I have an 10year old Garmin Fénix3 and it’s still my every day watch and activity sports tracker. Now that my kids are interested is diving, i think AI is becoming more priority than nice to have. I would be able to keep track of their tank pressures. At the moment, it’s just way outside of my budget. Thank you for such n nice overview. Ciao

Thanks for a great and informative video. Went with the Suunto Ocean as the Garmin MK3i is out of my reach.

I think the Apple Watch is great for people who already wear an Apple Watch and only dive on vacation like myself. But also wanting to dive more and get into more technical diving the shearwater computers are awesome!

I have the older Zoop (3 button) and it's still working perfectly but I'm thinking of upgrading. The Shearwater Peregrine TX is high on my list, as I want a dedicated Dive Computer (I haven't worn a watch since the 90's) but I also have the Suunto Vyper on my list because of it's user replaceable battery and AI options. It's a shame it wasn't part of your review.

I like the shearwater peregrine because of the big screen and you able to grow into tech diving

Hello Thank you so much for your comparison video. My favorite is the Shearwater Peregrine. I’m 64. I was certified in n 1987 by Naui. I dove a little bit back then then left it alone for many years. I recently took a refresher course in preparation for our trip to Curacao. Went there in July and I had 4 dives off of the Sandals boat. Needless to say I’m now hooked and cannot wait to dive again. Looking at a trip through our local dive shop to go to Cozumel. So…I’m in the market for gear. I’m going Saturday to pick up my bcd. I’d love an opportunity to have some of the gear you guys are testing. Please give this ole PawPaw a consideration for some of your gear. Again thank you so much for your thorough gear presentation. Guy Menard.

Is there a reason no ScubaPro computers made it? I just got certified using my shops ScubaPro G2 and it seemed really nice. Again i am a brand new diver, and looking to get my own gear soon. Can someone shed light on ScubaPro compared to these brands?

Great video. The Garmin mk3i 51mm is the perfect dive computer for me. As a professional diver, I need a computer that can do everything, clear to read but also with a long battery life ! Nothing is more annoying than charging you computer every day especially when going on a liveaboard. Because I use it all the time, i prefer a watch computer that's why Garmin is what I need and if you ask gently it can do your early morning coffee 😂😂

Suunto Ocean has the the Compass heading now, but its on click-through in the bottom of the screen.

Apple Watch ultra, I love that I can use my everyday watch as dive computer and don’t need to spend money or think about taking stand alone dive computer with me. Beside that, it’s really a best looking, user friendly and perfectly readable DC

I love my Sunnto Eon Core and the apps that go with it. I like the large screen format. I have the lime green screen surround but it does sometimes burn a square in my eye, maybe the black surround would have been better. I did have a problem with it recently , was repaired butbindidnhave prompt for the repair as out of warranty but I was happy with the after service.

I like the Shearwater Peregrine. Large Coloured screen. Love the Bluetooth capability. I hate going through the menu system on 4-button computers. Like the recharging pad.
