That was so clear and understandable for me as a layperson! Thank you so much!

Hi Dr. Lee, can you explain orthoptic exercises in more detail. Can the prism (3 diopter, binocular 1.5 each eye) be reversed with these exercises? It suddenly came around 37 years of age, no head trauma, no past lazy eyes as a child. My optician, when I received the prism for double vision in the distance said that there was nothing that could be done until it either stabilized or got bad enough that it would require surgery. Can this divergence insufficiency be reversed and I can get back to non prism glasses/contact lenses? Thank you for your time!

@@popat738 hi, it is very frustrating but I had gone to a better optometrist, and also to a specialized eye institute, they determined that my prescription was over compensating, that was causing my binocular esophoria and diplopia in the distance. My first optometrist 3 years ago covered this up by prescribing me prism lenses, which from what I’m being told now was not what should have happened. So, my new optometrist lowered by prescription and I’ve been doing some vision therapy, life saver card and a brick string for a month. It helped a lot and I’m heading back to get a glasses prescription next week without a prism. Wish me luck! I hope this information helps you on your journey to fix your eye diplopia.

@@capitalexotics OH MY GOSH!!! WOW!! I am wondering now if this is suspect from what happened to me in 2018! I started getting double vision with the high prescription he kept cranking me up and I was only 41 at the time which is far too young to have this problem. I also asked him about Orthokeratology and eye exercises and he said I was too old to be helped!! Grrr!! I went to a new Optometrist last year and have been getting vision therapy and just started OrthoK so I'm wearing lower prescription contacts and doing Brock string. What was your prescription before with the prism? Mine was pretty high. My double vision is horizontal and occurs when I look at far distance. Please share your updates how you are. I just got a referral to see an Opthamologist in case I need an MRI to rule out anything medical

@@ShinySilverBunny Hi Shiny, I did not have a high prescription about -4.5 in each eye. My double vision was also horizontal (both eyes - binocular) and also only in the distance. So, an update, I am totally out of prism and back to regular glasses with astigamtism. Contact lenses are astigmatism lenses, I only wear them occasionally. The brock string and the life saver cards were all I needed for literally about a month before I got my contact lenses and my eyes were 95% better. Caveat, I actually could not make it to the bottom two life saver distances before having to put a dot on the wall and move farther back. I still can’t do the bottom two even if I tried today, neither can any of my friends. For the brock string, i focused on it more, I could not get passed the third ball for about a couple weeks, at times, depending on how tired I was even when I was doing well I could not get to the last ball. But I was able to go from the first to the last and back and forth for a good number of times without losing focus on the balls. I haven’t done any more eye exercises since I got my glasses and my latest check up, he said my esophoria completely disappeared… a clean bill of vision health. So, what he realized was that my -4.5 prescription was too strong and that the previous optometrist was overcompensating the power to avoid/negligent about the astigmatism. He reduced the prescription with higher astigmatism (some optometrists see them as being swappable - higher prescription with lower astigmatism VS lower prescription and higher astigmatism). My optometrist was of the latter, that the over compensating for the power was causing my eyes to want to converge inwards, despite visually not being able to see any cross eyed. So, I kept up the vision therapy exercises for about two more months, keeping the contacts on as long as possible and using my prism glasses as least as possible. By mid September my glasses had come in, without a prism lens and they were 100% perfect. They made sure to measure my eyes separately for the centre of the lens and triple checked it to make sure I was looking through the optical centre of the lens. What a wonderful man and team! I am so thankful! He literally saved my ability to see and drive. So, as a personal experience, I severely reduced my screen time. Especially my phone. I was reading fine print articles on the financial markets on my phone for hours during work and after work hours. Of course, the phone, as I’m typing this now is convenient - however, the print is generally extremely small. Years of this practice, I believe, trained my brain to easily converge my eyes, leading to a binocular esophoria (esophoria meaning the turn in of the eye was not permanently there, that would be an esotropia). I honestly believe this was the main reason why my eyes developed this vision issue. Since then I rarely read articles on the screen, if so I up the font to 125% or higher and try to keep off the screen as much as possible. This is what I believe helped reverse my vision problem so quickly. It’s amazing how adaptable our brains are. I hope this helps, it’s hard to find a really good optometrist or opthomologist (some said I couldn’t be fixed, just like my first optometrist). I spent a good amount of money going from one to the other, even when to a brain/stroke clinic for an assessment with laser goggles tracking my eye movements and balance. Don’t stop searching until you feel you’ve exhausted every avenue. I wish you the best! Keep me updated on your during journey and I’ll keep you in my thoughts! Be healed!

@@capitalexotics Dear Sir :) Thank you so much for the extensive reply . Yes I have high myopia about 10.5. I am so grateful I found this Optometrist who has vision therapy and I also just started Orthokeratology to reduce and mitigate my myopia. I am the same I believe alot of near work and phone usage caused the convergence. I have been researching more and understanding now about eye muscles etc . First off Congratulations for sticking with those exercises and improving your vision!! That's a very inspiring success story. I just got my Brock String this month and still using it daily for the past week. I am having issues with the 3rd ball and beyond but I expect progress. I don't know what life saver cards are so ill look them up and ask about them. Also I am trying to reduce my screen time as well on phone and for some dumb reason I never thought of changing the font size until now reading your comment! 😅 now it's massive typing on YT comments LOL 😆 thank you so much and I love how you said September also because I am putting the pedal to the metal on my exercises and basically have a rule of No days Off!! I want progress come September even to get past the 3rd ball. So yes I'm wearing contacts now without prism and my older glasses for near work without prism so i truly believe God can do this. I even pray on my own eyes and health to transform. If you can do it why can't I!!!??? 😃 positive attitude means everything!! Also I'm using Magnesium oil and Msm in my own eye drop solution to deliver needed nutrients to the eye. Alot of muscle spasm occur with vision problems and my eyeball that was feeling a bit sore I now feeling better. How often and how long were your Brock string sessions each day? So far I'm doing only 5-10 min but thinking of breaking it up and adding more through the day. I also do jump focusing with my finger and to far objects when driving so that I'm doing in practical ways too. Well appreciate your indepth reply. If you can let me know durations of your exercises with the string and cards also that would be a huge help. Improving double vision in 1-2 months is an amazing accomplishment!!

I suddenly have divergence insufficiency at 36 years old. It's possible that I had a brain injury but it's not diagnosed. It seems though that there's absolutely nothing else wrong with me and I can see everything perfectly up to about 2 ft from my face. I don't know what to do.
