Hearing Woody talk about using a monofin in a pool reminded me of the first time I used flippers not a mono but the dual flippers. I had previously been on the swim team and swam for SUSA and I was a pretty fast swimmer. Then I took a diving class at a local quarry to prepare for a diving trip in the Florida Keys. I was completely floored by how incredibly fast flippers make you compared to without. I have always wanted to try those really big, oversized ones and see how much more thrust they provide.

@gnarthdarkanen7464
@gnarthdarkanen7464 Жыл бұрын
I'm going to recommend you try finding places where you can test several sizes and shapes for yourself... Up to a point (in my experience) the longer and wider the fins, the faster you can go... BUT the more strain against feet and legs for pushing so much more water to get that thrust. There's a point of diminishing returns, where you still get a little faster, but the boost in speed simply isn't worth the money invested or the stress on your legs. It's probably different dimensions from one diver or swimmer to the next, since we have different purposes and environments as well as simply differently formed and refined muscles and mass. Keep in mind if you Scuba, that the more strain you're under for propulsion, the faster you build up CO2 and the quicker you'll burn through an air supply, too. ;o)

@@psychoticdaizyproductions569 People toy around and improperly (according to manufacturers and engineers) use equipment all the time... There are also wonderful things that can be done as a "custom" or "one off" per specific diver/swimmer order... THUS my suggestion. If you've ever been to a "Mermaid Show" you'd also know that while they don't wear tanks like ordinary scuba divers, the performers take turns "sipping" air from a nearby (usually obscured) air tube... It may only ever get to 20 or 30 feet, but it all works about the same as scuba there, too... Either you're breathing under the surface, or you're free-diving... AND CO2 vs O2 IS always a concern under strains under water. ;o)

Nuclear subs have been doing it for years, but they have an infinite amount of electricity to do it. They also don't create air, they only produce O2 from water and scrub the CO2. They have no way to get nitrogen underwater. Basically, nuclear subs are giant rebreathers x)

Can't wait to see you do that challenge Woody. The bottle is called a Dive Portable Lungs and they have 2 models. Luckily for Woody they showed the 'large' bottle which is 1L, but then that means Gus was right on the money. The bottle is only about 8 cubic feet :0. Good luck Woody you'd need a RMV around .25 cu ft/min which I think could be pulled off if completely still and calm but would still be a challenge and make a great video.

Woody, I have to disappoint you, a device that can extract air from water would be impossible. Here are some numbers: at sea level, there's between 0.015-0.025 air by volume dissolved in water. let's assume an average breath of 1L, that means to get a breath of air, the device would need to process between 40 and 65 L of water per breath if it's working with an impossible 100% efficiency. more realistically, you're looking at processing about 100L of water for every breath. Even at 10 breaths a minute, you're looking at pumping through a metric ton of water. A 1000L/min water pump is one of those massive diesel generator-style pumps, definitely not something you can take with you on a dive, much less fit in your mouth. Sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Mahina Merfin (as seen in the video) is a really popular monofin for mermaiding. So you need to keep in mind, that in the first place it's designed to look good! (mostly worn with a so called skin) It actually has pretty good propulsion, but surely not comparable to a professional monofin as used in freediving. Therefore the Mahina is not as expensive. I personally prefer the Mermaid Linden adult monofin. It's much more comfy to ware and i like the shape much more xD it also has a stiffer blade, which makes you go faster. Maybe Woody should try an actual mermaid class, I'd love it! 😄🧜‍♂

The "sharkband" device variant was shown on this year's shark week. They proved that be it electrical or magnetic shark deterrent devices, all sharks adapted to them fairly quickly, and became immune to the affects. The breather with the floating buoy, is just a battery powered air pump, that pumps air from the surface, to the diver. There are professional brands with many youtubers using them for river diving. One popular Brand/model is called "BLU3 Nemo Dive System" The under water bubble room thing they showed in this video, also had a variant on shark week. just only, they built and actual living space on the sea floor. bolted to big cement blocks like the ones used as highway dividers. they had the cycle fresh air into it every couple hours from a boat that was anchored above the underwater dry space. That first device in this video, was mostly photoshopped, but was mentioned to have a hose attached. in other words, the same as the portable air pump breather.

In for the video of the 30min tiny tank, also would be cool for you guys to review more items similar to that, or even just weird dive items like the single fin.
