I shot the great white shark cage breach video. The shark didn't squeeze through the rails, it actually busted the side out. You're correct it wasn't trying to get it, it slammed into the side hard and panicked and they can't swim backwards so it powered through forward. The shark was bleeding but it was spotted later in the day and over the week (and even longer) and it is fine. The dive boats know all the sharks, they all have names and they knew which shark it was. It was an average to smaller sized shark compared to what's out there. The sharks are tough, most have various scars from living life as a top predator. The location was Guadalupe Island off the coast of Mexico.

Hey guys, really appreciate the comment and the insights. So glad you were able to capture this moment and everyone involved was okay. We hope you enjoyed our reaction and feel free to share with your subscribers as well. Very happy you stopped by and answered some comments in this video, we really enjoy when creators respond to comments left on the reactions we make, that’s why we always link the original video in the description. Thanks again for stopping by!

@@DIVETALK Your commentary was good, many times these reaction videos turn negative without knowing the circumstances. You guys are divers so you're more knowledgeable and level-headed. I understand, as some of the comments below show, people being against shark cage experiences and that's a legit discussion, as is the safety of the cages for both the divers and sharks. But I do know these operators absolutely love sharks, they have binders of each individual shark, with names, and they work with the conservation and authority organizations as a team. Their presence also keeps poachers away. So there's two sides to the shark cage story. You, as well as the commenters (which shows the quality of viewers you have) created a good conversation. Hats off to the soldier section.

@@GabeandGarrett , ok, pardon the pun, but i'll bite... how is a shark visibly bleeding part of "conservation" i actually skipped this video for a few days cause i thought this was the one where the shark got stuck in the cage and died (don't know if you saw that one, (don't know how to link vid, so please explain how if you need the link)) (ngl, probably wouldn't have commented on this if i haven't seen that vid, it is REALLY is upsetting). Iin the end both are pretty much the same circumstance, CAGES and FEEDING... i've seen plenty of videos online of humans and sharks "interacting" (aka. just sharing the same space) without the need of a feeding frenzy. So, in my opinion, feeding "shows" needs to stop. And, as you claim, shouldn't those conservationist also want these unnecessary torture/killings to stop? The ocean isn't an zoo, we shouldn't try to schedule a viewing, if you can't find a natural encounter with them then try again later. Forcing them into our space, using dumb methods is NOT the solution. No hate to you or others, but please explain the part of human's "caring" cause i seems to be missing it...

@@karendevries9352 Hi Kaen. Personally I'm not an advocate or against shark cage diving. I've experienced a week on one at Guadalupe Island. Every diver there was a shark lover, obsessed with them. The entire boat crew were absolute shark lovers. They have binders that talk about every shark in the area, their name, their age, distinguished markings, etc. On our excursion there was a film crew doing a documentary on great whites, they were a big conservation company that shoots for platforms like BBC. They even had their own manned submersible to get understater footage. These boat operators work with the main Guadalupe Island conservation organizations and the Mexican Gov't. They also fund these organizations and assist in research. I've never been around such shark-passionate people in my life. It is extremely rare, as in very very rare, that there's any kind of shark/cage incident. Thousands of people of people go on these tours a year. Just these boats being out there have saved countless great white sharks from poachers. The funding and research and conservation and the amazing experience of seeing these sharks raise awareness of protection. That said, I know there are lots of people who just see divers in a cage and they think commercial exploitation and shark endangerment. And that's fine, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind other than to share my personal experience with the divers, operators, and conservationists. And I agree, although incidences are very rare, the cages seem like they could step up their engineering game.

Whenever I’m struggling through a major depressive episode and need to feel something and cry, I watch soldiers surprising their family videos. They aren’t nameless and faceless numbers, they’re people willing to fight and sacrifice for the sake of our country. Behind every deployed member of the military, there are families and friends that are anxiously waiting for them. It’s heartwarming to see them return at all but seeing the genuine emotions of their family gets me every time. The videos are also a little kick in the ass. My brain chemistry is the problem and that’s something I can do more to manage. I’m a privileged civilian and thanks to them, the only major threat to my life is me.

The Shark cage video . We had a similar incident here in South Africa which resulted in them making the spaces between the bars smaller. Why so many tiny fish all of a sudden?: Super cool. Agree with Woody, that would be awesome to try AND catch it on tape. But to be caught in that massive whale's mouth (which has been done before & the man survived) would've turned that footage into another thing entirely. Epic start. Can I get a hug?: Poor shark. It probably thought that it was lunch meat when it realised it was trapped in that cage. I've always thought sharks were mean predators, especially given how they've been portrayed in the media. But after what I saw in that video, WE are the predators. Glad both the shark and the human are okay. Flawless technique: Agree with Gus, nothing to critique here. The look on Bethany's face was classic and I love that Captain Bronson said she gets the first hug. Definitely next level. Watching Gus try to steer Woody in the right direction before he said something that could derail the whole interview was hilarious. Have a great weekend, Gus and Woody! Thanks for making us smile :-)

I totally agree with Woody thats sad that poor shark got hurt. I Love Woody's compassion for water life! If we don't do something now to protect our water dwelling neighbors, we will lose them to our own destruction!

Woody is adorable and delusional at the same time...Lol...His reaction to the HB Whale video is I wish that would happen to me...Of course I wouldn't want to get hurt or do anything to "hurt" the whale...Woody, Woody, Woody...that whales turds are bigger then you are Lol...What could you ever possibly do to even make that massive creature flinch or not mistake you for one of the Sardines ...But I do love your passion and commitment to Marine Life...Don't ever change 🥰🐳🐋🐬🦭🐟🐠🐡🦈🐙❤

I love whales so much. If it swallowed me I wouldn’t even move in it’s mouth just so I don’t hurt it’s mouth in anyway. I’d sit patiently and wait to be spit back out and treasure that moment forever. Woody

@@DIVETALK Hi Woody...I was having fun with you...I'm a big fan and seriously love you and Gus and your channel...I'm in the process of binge watching all your videos...I myself love all our ocean animals and have great respect for them...but you my friend are on a whole other level...way braver then I am...I'm not quite there with sharks yet, but I'm working on it..Lol...The good news is I am a middle aged woman from Long Island, N.y about to embark on fulfilling my lifelong dream of learning how to Scuba Dive and I owe that to both you and Gus...Thank you for all your amazing videos and inspiration....Hope to meet you guys one day 🥰

Two comments from me: 1) I actually snorkeled at the Kadena Marina. It's nothing special, to be honest, but it is where I first ever did anything other than swim at the beach. Very safe and surrounded by other US military folks so it's an awesome place for someone getting into stuff like snorkeling or scuba diving. The steakhouse there is pretty good, to boot. Now with orders to Guam, I hope to get dive certified and become an instructor for the base. 2) You guys alluded to this but military life is very tough on marriages and friendships. To see a couple like this is both refreshing and restores my faith in humanity after seeing so much negativity and divorces. A good husband is naturally needed and commendable but a good military wife is an Amazon queen that deserves every bit of the love and affection she was talking about in that interview. Especially when you consider what they put up with. Too many women just enter a marriage with ignorance or even ill intentions but these few good ones keep the tradition of a military wife alive. Hats off to you, Capt and Mrs. This goes the same to the Navy spouse who selflessly supported her husband's passion in diving.
