Hi Sista. Ono oxtail soup used to be cheap at the bowling alley. I remember when oxtail was the cheapest meat you could buy. Maybe 59 cents a pound. Debbie and I just purchased a package with 3 Pieces in it, and it was $15.00. Cannot forget the star anise, it is a must in our opinion. God bless Misty & have a great weekend.

Aloha! Yes used to be cheap and in all bowling alley. Sadly all the bowling alleys are gone. Only Leeward Bow left. Bit at least all the shops continued somewhere else. Hence Kapiolani Coffee Shop and Kam Bowl Restaurant. But those are the places where it's expensive. Even in Vegas it's expensive. Over $20 a bowl when it used to be 10

Aloha Misty!!! Both Oxtail soups look good. I like how you said Kim Chee II has authentic soup with a local flavor (paraphrasing) lol and that meet at 4:31 looked really good. I prefer the soup at Super Pho though because it comes with Pho and looks bigger but Im sure its more expensive than 19.90. Either way, cant go wrong with both places. Mahalo for another great review🤙

Aloha Misty: This vlog takes me back to the days of enjoying my favorite soup at Ken Fong Restaurant on Hotel Street in the middle of Chinatown. This restaurant is gone but those great memories of the soup still remains. With a side of rice, it was great. The one from Super Pho looks great with he rice noodles, peanuts and cilantro. Price-wise, beef is now a once-in-a-while treat. I am looking forward to the next great, and “delicious” vlog! Best wishes and much 🧧, fellow 🐯! 🤙

Mahalo Bill! I wish I could've tasted Ken Fong's oxtail soup. Never even heard of it. Probably passed by many times as we always caught the bus to downtown but usually would go to Woolworth's and end up at a cheap meal at McDonalds if we did have money for any "restaurant " food. My grandma took me there but we didn't eat there. She would talk story with all her jewelry friends that owned shops there then buy roast pork and Char Hung Sut and off to home we would go. Thank you for sharing your memories Bill! Have a great weekend and stay warm!

My older brother is a butcher. Thirty something years. He told me a while back that the prices skyrocketed because of foreign trade. The once "cheap cuts" were sold in bulk abroad to make up for meat sale shortages when the product had little to no demand domestically. Such a shame! We paid pennies on the dollar for these types of cuts back during the plantation days. Same goes for flank and even organ meats. Man I miss the 70s and 80s 😢

I like Kam Bowl's soup the best. Our local oxtail soup is of Chinese origin with the peanuts, star anise and tangerine peel that makes it taste the way we like.
