Why you should not have water flushing through the pool and a simple device that diverts excess roofwater away from the pool. A question posed by Jim.

I so enjoy watching your videos David! You have such a clear and simple solution for dealing with these design questions. I love how this is a totally passive and automated control. Thank you!

Hi David. Iv built/building a natural pool through watching your videos... It's dug into clay with no liner and is filled entirely from my 5 bedroom House Iv just finnished buildings various roofs that run off from the gutters, I'm relatively local to you just outside Cambridge, you could do a feature on me, from what I've seen I could be the first working class self made Englishman featured on your brilliant channel showing you don't need to be wealthy to do a natural pool using your methods ! 😃

Hi Billy, that could be a good idea, although many"working class" people have made these pools too.

Thanks, David, much clearer than mud! And perfect timing as we can set it up before the liner arrives next week.

Hi David! I'm planning on adapting this feature to my NSP by attaching the pipe to the pond by attaching it into the drain and hydrostatic pressure relief valve combo that will be cast into the concrete pool bottom. High seasonal water table here. I am in zone 6B here in the States which also means I need to protect water filled pipes from freezing in the winter. I suspect running a length of deicing wire down the vertical to the frost line should prevent ice from wrecking anything. That will, of course, be disconnected in swim season. At first I didn't catch on but now I understand how this device doubles as an overflow controller in case there is too much rain and prevents the pool from filling past its design limits. Thank you for all of your inspiring work. Nearly all of my design problems are now worked out and looking to break ground next spring.

Well it is not intentional but it makes me smile to know you see a similarity. I think we must have the same hair dresser

David, what is a good flow rate of pool, or is it just by evaporation that lowers the pool level? Thanks

How does the "exit" overflow drain pipe go from inside the pool planted zone to outside the pond ? I understand how the overflow box works to let rain/roof water run off .... unless the pool is low. But in my mind..... all water leaving the pond must go OVER the tarp. .... either via a created low point or by finding the lowest point. But to make a drain pipe..... you will have to perforate the liner and run a 4" pipe through the liner.

Yes, you have to go through the liner and make a water tight seal.

Hi David , Thanks for the video. How big lust be the tank compared to the natural swimming pool ? Thank you

It only needs to be big enough to fit the pipe fittings. Otherwise the size is not important

Are you able to connect the overflow system in this video to a rain water harvest system

Why the tank? The sideways T could have the bottom connected to the pool, the top to the roof and the side to the exit. The bottom of the side outlet should be at the desired water level. You would however loose the ability for adjustment by elongating the neck.. maybe more turbulence too, but that would reduce the stagnation of water. Just thinking.. I have no experience in the field :)

These pools are probably the safest freshwater you could swim in. But in life, nothing is 100% risk free. Not even typing this reply.
