I'm so so glad Jenny Han pushed Lara Jean to be played by an Asian actress! I thoroughly enjoyed the book series before the movie came out and truly believe (for me, at least) the experience would have been completely different if the movie were casted differently.

What kind of accent do you hear? She sounds about as straight forward native English speaking as you can to me. Weird you say that. I wouldn't even be able to tell what part of the states she grew up.

@@numbersandsports4206 Are you one of those people who think that all native English speakers have an accent except for Americans? English is my second language so I cannot pinpoint exactly which accent I hear nor am I saying it's anything strong but I like it and the way she lowers her tone at the end of sentences. It might not be unique but to me it's noticeable. That's all.

TATBILB was the first YA book I read that had an Asian American main character - and it was *life changing* for me. It's going to sound crazy/corny, but I didn't even *know* that you could do that. I didn't know that was "allowed." And it felt so right and so refreshing to see someone like myself (I'm Filipino though, not Korean!) being represented in a coming-of-age story. Before that, I'd primarily been reading YA novels that exclusively featured white characters - and those stories were still wonderful and captivating. But TATBILB really made me feel seen and I related it to it so, so much! So yes, having that representation is so important, if not vital, in any form of media - we need more of it!
