What I love about Jenny Han’s writing is that not only is it so intuitive, but she gives her teen characters permission to make mistakes and *continue* to learn from those mistakes as the series continue. As girl who grew up shy/quiet/introverted and tons of secret crushes, I can definitely say that JH nailed how hard it is to let go of an “idea” of being with someone, and dealing with the harsh realities of who people actually are, understanding what you need vs what you want, and accepting that young-love is not always meant to be. It’s so easy to get caught up on a personal wish-fulfillment kind of story when you become a writer, so I praise JH for bringing all these complexities about young love to light.

Such a fan of Jenny Han and her books! I wish there was a part two of this podcast - I would have loved to have heard more about her experiences to first getting published, how the first TATB movie came about, and if she'll write more (or is writing more) books.

I love Jenny Han’s universe soo much. She has helped me expand my own imagination and hopes and dreams of what I want for myself from a young age. She and all her characters are such hopeless romantics and that is such a beautiful way to live. Loved getting to know her better!!

I love Penn’s humor. He says something and instantly ‘I am sorry’ as if it did not came out as it was in his head 😂

This interview just felt so wholesome to me - her struggles and experiences were so relatable - I also really like how she simply has a memo list for her 12yo self - thanks for the interview!! (Two ! Because I'm feeling excited 😁)

Re: Sophie bringing in a pen because she wanted to change her penmanship in middle school-anyone else go through that middle school girl phase where you decided your penmanship wasn’t “pretty” or “girly” enough? Reading through my diaries from that time is a rough exercise, and is also an odyssey of obnoxiously curly “g” and “y” stems, made extra awful because my maiden name ended with a “y” and I wanted that in particular to look perfect.

it’s comforting knowing i’m not the only one who’s tried changing their handwriting over the years. in 7th grade i changed how i make my ‘s’ i write them from the bottom up instead of top to bottom. with ‘y’ i constantly go back and forth on how i want to write it out😭

21:59 5 years ago, when I was in high school, I was way too shy to call or facetime anyone outside family. I always texted which gave me a much different and more detached experience than somebody who called.
