I can think of many things, but one of the most important things for myself is that women are told to be quiet. To not speak up basically. That leads to worse salaries, abuse and a whole heap of other issues. A lot of the problems that women have today are related to that very problem. It's why I really dislike the concept of "trophy wife" as well. Their job is basically to be pretty and shut up. It's awful.

I also find a huge problem with how women are constantly told to shave/wax and live up to this insanely high standard of beauty and perfection that is propagated by the media. examples are body type, skin, waist size, etc. Moreover, women are also expected to behave shy and subdued and if they do something out of the box, like y'know, try and be empowering for other women, it has to be done in a sexy manner otherwise it's a flop. like a woman cannot be outspoken without it being appealing to the male gaze. and I think it's way more prevalent in the idol world, where women have to maintain this perfect body and perfect image and either have to adopt a 'cute, girl crush' concept or a 'dark, empowering concept' that HAS to be sexy.

@@ananditaagarwal1190 Yeah, it's not a good situation at all. However, something quite interesting about the idol industry is that pure sexiness doesn't sell well. The more restrained or suggestive sexiness does much better. That's probably due to the whole "purity" aspect though, which I think is kind of bullshit. The vast majority of idols have dated and will date. They will have sex. They will do everything others do but will be more limited. Anyone who believes otherwise is delusional and is just contributing to the problem.

Honestly think this will remain the biggest culture shock I've had when getting into kpop. My culture is completely the opposite where guys grow facial hair at an early age and if you can't then you're teased for it. Also, ive seen some koreans with facial hair and someone needs to tell them it looks goood otherwise they all have baby faces(not necessarily a bad thing).

but that is better , everyone should remove armpit hair (pubic hair too) and cut their nails , every 40 days or earlier . it is the most hygienic way because there is a lot of bacteria\sweat and it sticks to your hair , it creates an unpleasant smell etc. you do you though :).

@@SheSpends2MuchOnKpop yes , it is there for a reason , the reason is to see if you are going to listen and practice proper hygiene or not . something being in a certain place does not mean it should stay there , example , there is pee in our bladder and we should pee because holding it in will harm us . hope you can understand me now . no one sees your pubic hair except the people you sleep with and occasionally doctors etc and in winter no one will see your armpit but you should still shave them because.. Hygiene . anyway , all of this has been told to us and we should follow because it is beneficial , you dont have to listen because it is your body and I assume that you dont practice my religion , otherwise you wouldve understood or had an idea. nonetheless , I have not said anything but facts . Gonna be honest, I really support Super Junior's Siwon about this very topic. He had a freakin' beard for their album photoshoot! I saw some male idols have facial hair in private but doing it when promoting with your group is sth new! I hope what Siwon did encourages other idols to do it as well. @@ilhuriwjsn4951 i think their overall skin is pretty different too. Like in other races even if men have clean shaved, you can see their cheeks/skin on the face is kind of grubby. The texture of male and female skin is different even if guys shave all the beard. Whereas in asian men if they shave their skin is as smooth as a baby. So I just assumed they probably don't grow beard because I don't see beard growing out of those smooth cheeks. Not trying to be mean or racist guys, sorry if it was offensive.

@DG 482. OMG I actually thought this same thing! That male Kpop idols were hairless eunuchs or something...lol. But I guess they had some of us fooled. The industry really wants to keep them youthful and innocent forever. When I look at most of these groups, I always think they're kids just barely out of their teens, when actually they're full grown men. It's surreal. They have us thinking facial hair on a kpop idol doesn't exist and body hair is taboo. One of my fave kpop bands always shock me where one member will cover another's unshaven armpit when wearing tank tops if they accidentally raised their arms. Fans aren't supposed to know there's hair there? It's kinda sexy to see it on them imo. Instead of always seeing that perfect side, it makes them appear more human. But since they're "IDOLS" I guess seeing them as humans with hair and a blemish doesn't fit the criteria. They're fully invested in selling a fantasy. It would be fun and fascinating if someone made a video showing what some of the most popular idols looked like with facial hair.

I shave once every 3-4 days. People simply have to deal with me having a half assed beard most of the time, because if I shave every day (or even every other day) I start looking like a cherry. My skin just goes crazy. It doesn't matter how much I prepare my skin and beard for it and no matter how good or bad I treat my skin afterward. I can do absolutely everything I can but the end result is still as if I've shaved completely dry with no preparation. The only solution I've found is to just let my skin rest for a few days before I shave again. Another thing that seems to be a bit more gentle on the skin is using a shaving knife, but I'm not comfortable enough to use one myself. I've only been shaved with one before because I was at a barber to get a haircut and he asked if I also wanted him to shave my beard.

idk what type of razor you use but I have like a full on beard after a day or 2 and really sensitive skin and the only thing that saved me was an Andis Foil Shaver. It's a literally irritating the first few shaves but your skin adjusts to it and then I never had any issue. I'm sure there are other foil shavers that work but it's just the one my barber recommended.

Imagine to complain about this when woman shave not only moustache but also all their bdies... haha I didn't have money for waxing growing up..I shaved all my body and I would cut my skin everywhere..legs,armpits,moustache..my bikini area..my as s.. is so fking painful and the skin gets irritated and grows inhair so you have infected bumps all over your body.. my butt was a mess of infections in the skin when I shaved. Laser saved my life. Honestly I am so happy for having saved all without eating properly just to shave so I can fking give society what it wants. Fking hell.

@@solfh When shaving sensitive areas it's incredibly important to have a good razor, but many women use those cheap disposable ones. There's also shaving cream for sensitive skin which is life saver. Besides that, cleaning up properly is important, and not only your skin. You need to disinfect the razor as well. My skin still gets messed up no matter what, but it helps a little. Oh, but I agree by the way, forcing people to do things, even if indirectly is no good.

this issue with kpop is that we associate youth with it since we mostly don’t talk about singers but idols and I think the comment section is forgetting that. that this youthful look can only be retained if they don’t grow facial hair because that is associated with maturity. also the fact that if you watched She Was Pretty, Siwon had facial hair there and the dood was sizzling hot but it was his bummer look supporting the stigma that facial hair is a sign of someone’s lack of personal hygene. HOWEVER, it’s important to notice people like Mithra Jin from Epik High, I think he’s one of the few people paving the way for a facial hair trend in South Korea. Man looks flamin hot especially on their latest comeback. In conclusion, I think we shouldn’t expect idols to grow facial hair in the near future because of the hostility toward such changes but if we shift out attention toward singers and rappers, we might have hope. I just wrote a little dissertation on facial hair in kpop. time well spent.

I searched "male K-pop idols with beard" and this was the first result. I was curious about the topic because I realised most of the South Korean media I consume has a lot of hairless and smooth skin men and women..... being expected to be hairless is such a heavy burden in my opinion.... I also think its cos I'm a hairy woman..... its difficult to stay that well-groomed.

try a eletric shaver/trimmer that has protection that protect the skin so it only cut hairs and dont contact skin or gelette skingard. It will help alot with the quality with the shave. Ps also use a oily shave cream that protect the skin so the hairs is only cutting

Like, I wish idols were allowed to have their bodies be natural. Like, most idols (male or female) shave their entire bodies. I mean like, it’s weird seeing a 25 year old male idol with literally no armpit hair and shiny, hairless legs.

this is interesting. every guy i know take pride in their beard and as teenagers would try all kinds of serums to maje them grow faster and quicker but it's the complete opposite in korea, wow.
