Dividend-yield funds: A better substitute for flexi-cap funds? | Dividend-yield vs flexi-cap funds

Dividend-yield funds have given better returns than flexi-cap funds over the last 3 and 5 years. These funds are quite underexplored and have a much smaller AUM than that of flexi-cap funds. But their investment mandate is quite flexible, which allows them freedom to invest like flexi-cap funds. In this script, we try to find out if these funds can act as a more rewarding substitute for flexi-cap funds.
In the first part of the script, we discuss what dividend-yield funds are and the logic behind their investment approach. Then, we compare the returns and risk profile of these funds with those of flexi-cap funds. In the third section, we analyse what’s working for these funds. Good analysis. The real differentiator for dividend funds would be that they give back monthly dividends back to the investor say atleast 75% as a regular income. Sebi must step in here abd tweak the fund policy

One analysis that I was looking was for PSU versus non-psu stocks which dividend yield funds hold. I believe that it's majorly PSU stocks which gave out more dividend yields. Because of the PSU rallies in last few years, I can be wrong. I haven't done the analysis but was looking for that in in the video. but a great video overall

Hello, while dividend-yield funds tend to have a higher allocation to mid/small caps as compared to large-cap funds, you can also consider mid-cap and small-cap funds. Please decide as per your requirements.

When I invest in a stock directly, like say in NALCO, the dividend declared is transferred to my bank. In ANY mutual fund of any fund, what happens to the dividends?

If you invest in IDCW plan dividend will be paid to your bank account and NAV goes down accordingly

Divident yield performed better because they are psu heavy funds that give dividents. So as PSU had a good period last yr their overall return increased. It is not worth it in case of a longer period as fund managers have only a few basket of funds to invest in.
