Loved the fox tea mug! And your pleasure for the garden is simply really sweet. You have done so well. Melbourne Australia here and going into Spring time!! The summers here the past few years have become very very wet and humid. In February there is a blast of extreme heat usually destroys most average gardens, I keep going but its extreme and heart breaking. I now seek the indestructible when planting.

My biggest advice is to be bold with dividing ! In general, plants are quite hardy and there have been many a time I thought I for sure killed something and it barely skipped a beat. I tend to do a lot of dividing in the spring where I am in the upper Midwest of the US (Michigan, zone 5b), we have quite snowy winters and our frosts have already taken out a lot of plants for the year, so I’m loving seeing all the green in your videos.
@DaintyDiaries2 жыл бұрын

The plant is a “red hot poker” or Kniphofia . Your garden is so lovely! I truly believe one of the best parts of having a garden is to be able to divide plants and share with others……As I enjoy the plants that were gifted to me, I can’t help but be reminded of the particular friend who gave me each plant. Your borders are going to be gorgeous and lush next spring because of all the attention you’re giving them now. We’re so lucky to have generous friends! Our gardens are a living scrapbook of memories. ♥️

When i saw that plant, i thought of red hot pokers as well, but i was put off by the colour. I planted one in my garden in autumn, now it is summer here, so i am looking forward to what it will do.

When I do any dividing I always do it in a wheelbarrow with water and some kind of liquid fertilizer and then fill the hole that the plant is going into with water and starter fertilizer and everybody seems to be happy. Excited to see how your transplants turn out.

I was sweeping up my gardening mess yesterday on the deck and thinking of you with your garden broom. Mine is just as haggard so it made me laugh! Also I live in the Pacific Northwest in the United States and our climate is very similar to Ireland… So it’s fun to watch which flowers lasted for you and seeing which flowers lasted for me. I tend to do OK on the cloudy days but that is because I live in a cabin with more windows than walls. It lets all of the light in even if there’s only a little light that day. The lamp is a great idea and something else that I read that they do in Sweden is to light lots of candles and put on lots of ambient light in the home when it’s dark out. 💗💗💗 here’s hoping you have a better winter this year! Sending you hugs and love.

I'm in zone 5 Pennsylvania. I have a few Rozanne geraniums in my garden and they're still blooming a little bit. Been thinking of dividing them in the spring to have them in other areas of the garden where nothing has been in bloom for some time. I divide all of my plants the same way as your neighbor has showed you. Yesterday was beautiful here, and I spent all day outside cleaning up and putting away the outdoor furniture. Today is grey and rainy, so I am inside enjoying a nice fire.

Re: plants that go down in Autumn doing better - I was just half-listening to Monty in GW on iplayer from a couple weeks back (anyone else only watching for Ned?) and he was saying that planting in autumn in warm soil gives them time to get established and then they can get ahead faster in spring than ones planted into cold soil in spring. I have a feeling it was the wallflowers section, where he was doing wallflowers and daffs in the long walk? :) so there you go. If Monty says it, it must be accurate!

Your Dahlias were so pretty this year that I will be planting my first Dahlias very soon. I can't wait to see them grow. The changes in season and weather do make a huge difference in how we feel. I live in Florida( zone 10a) and recently overheard someone who has recently come here to live from one of the Northern states with long, hard winters. He said that when he was still in the north he had no idea how deeply he was affected by the weather until he came here. He said he feels so much better mentally and physically with more warm, sunny days.
