This is a great topic Catherine. It is always heart breaking to come back after being away and seeing your plants suffering, especially after putting so much work into it. I have to say I've always struggled to fit a garden day before the holiday. Time before going away is always so hectic. Well done for being so organised.

Hi Catherine, I usually ask a neighbor to water and bring in the mail when we are out of town during the summer. I pick up a thank you gift in appreciation for the help. I too try to clean house before we leave so when we arrive back home I am not faced with chores when I have a pile of laundry now to do.

Catherine loved your video some great tips. One thing I use in my garden beds, pots & hanging baskets is a 1 or 2 litre bottle buried into the soil or peat moss. Some holes made all over the bottle for feeding. Plant with the lid pointing upwards so you can fill with water anytime not just when ur away. Hope this is useful to you. Looking forward to your next video.

I've used old wine bottles in my raised beds. I've spray-painted the bottom of some of them with gold paint and then just pushed them into the soil with the bottom up - I think it adds a bit of a sculptural element to my little garden here in Denmark 🇩🇰 😊

Oh those dead heads, the birds will love it. I leave the cones up and the finches go through those seeds like crazy. Have fun at the wedding! When my neighbors from Ireland had their daughters wedding it was a blast! Do you do that line dance kind of dance, starts on either end of the floor, meets in the middle, everyone twirled around and then back again. So much fun! Have a blast! 💝

Empty , clean 2 ltrr. Pop bottles filled with water and turned upside down pushed into soil will help with keeping your soil moist. As the ground gets dry the bottle will slowly be drawn from the bottle.😊
@masonrowley92262 жыл бұрын
Wine bottles are a cute and good way to water your garden for a week or so! Just flip over an empty one to make the impression into the soil, remove the bottle, fill it up with water, then stick it back into your indentation. This way you can use different bottle sizes for different plants. Good luck!

I love the idea of planting more native plants ... I live in northern california in zone 9 so I planted some yarrow in a grow bag and this week was the first time I didn't have to water it every 2 days but I recently learned about ollas from KZbin: epic gardening for keeping the watering going and the plants just drink as necessary. can't wait to try it out 😁 love your bug hotels in the garden

Hello there Catherine,i love your ideas. I tried to plant sunflowers,,calendula,sweet peas they never ever showed up. I bought marigold,which i planted....the snails had their joy eating them within a few days 😢. I also planted seeds of nasturdium,the leaves are here,but they didn't show any flowers. I think it had alot to do wirh the draught we had,or have. Many of my strawberries have gone crispy. We did go on a short holiday,but only for 4 days or 7 days. That was 6 and 7 years ago. I couldn't afford it these days. I would not stay away longer that's for sure,especially with the heat we have this year. I do like the tip with the bottle someone gave (upside down) anyhow.

Depending on how many pots, get strips of cotton or cotton rope, and put one end in the plants, and one end in a bucket of water. It will wick moisture from the bucket to the plants.

The garden is looking beautiful and you have gained in confidence since your first tentative steps The flowers at the back of the garden are Astrantia major. Instead of buying more plants now they are maturing it is possible to split them to increase your stock of plants, it helps keep the plants healthy and you get free plants 👍👍 Your sprouts - when planting any brassica they need to be planted in really firmly (especially in your very 'fluffy' raised bed soil also they will probably need staking as they get taller to stop them falling over. Enjoy your trip 😊😊

In our country they are eaten. They should be fried in a frying pan without oil without anything, stirring often. Stir, try, already fried or not, opening the peel. When they are ready, they are easily opened by pressing your fingers. And open the black peel. There's a white seed inside. It's edible. Maybe I wrote with mistakes. I use Google translator.

In the summer, I put saucers under my pots, they catch the extra water that drains through. It cuts down on watering. If i am going away i collect the smaller pots together and leave them in a shallow tray of water, it doesnt hurt them to stand in water for a while, better than drying out.

I learned a lot from you today about gardening. Thank you for that! I love your comment about not having a non-garden person care for your garden while you are gone. It reminded me of the time that my friend had gone away for a few days and asked me to take care of her cat. At that time I was a dog person. I would come over once a day and give fresh food and water, but the kitty litter seemed to not have anything in it. Remember, I was used to dogs and everyone can see their business. I later learned from my daughter-in-law, who some may call, "a crazy cat lady" (she currently has 3 cats), that cats cover up their business. I called my friend years later and apologized! She never said anything to me aboutit!!!

Is it the right time of the season for Lady Bugs in your area? If not mix some dish soap and water to spray them away. That is organic spray technic. I'm so glad your saving the Alum seed heads. Spray with clear lacquer to enjoy the natural beauty or silver and gold for Christmas. Garden all tidy. Now go have fun you Three Amigo's.
