I am a 67 year old musician who has worked so hard at so many different jobs, all the while working to keep up my level of playing. All this has taken a tremendous amount of energy. Well, I finally ran out. Developing cancer at 60 and being completely debilitated by chemotherapy. I feel like my life's dream has passed me by trying as an artist to survive in this model of capitalism and all of the greed at the top, keeping the rest of us down. Another broken heart by humans that don't have any consciousness for higher spirituality or music and the arts. I hope this movement really moves us in a better healthy direction so people can have more fulfilled lives, not dominated by constant stress and struggle just to get by. My husband was an active duty military chaplain for 30 years. We've voted Republican in every election since Ronald Reagan. Until 2018. As an atheist, I've been encouraged to see so many Christians come out over the past few years to denounce hatred and violence. Evangelicals used to be all about loving their neighbours, but this was back when most people surveyed said they respected and trusted Christians. Then many fell for the blasphemous Prosperity Gospel, which said that God rewards righteousness with money, so money is a sign of righteousness (no it's not!), and anyone who's suffering must deserve to suffer because of sin, so it's practically a sin to help them. Now, when people hear the word "Christian," they think of words like, "self-righteous," "hypocritical," and similar. Trump has exposed that barren branch for what it is. I hope this pruning will help the tree bear some good fruit, all that goodness, righteousness, and mercy that non-Christians already know is the best way to live.

I am tearing up. I left my church 16 years ago when I all I heard about was right wing politics instead of the blood of Jesus. I had been a rubber stamping republican since I voted for Reagan at 18. I got so much hate...I mean hate from people I had worshipped with when I voted for Obama. I have felt so, so lonely. Then Beth Moore, who was the most popular Bible teacher among evangelicals, left the baptist church and called Jan 6 for what it was. Now others are beginning to come out and say enough is enough. I wish that the Evangelicals ad would play in all the red states. So many Christian brothers and sisters I have loved have fallen for the Trump cult. Even Mike Pence took his own sweet time denouncing Trump after Jan 6, and Trump said he deserved it when the mob chanted hang Pence. It's refreshing to see that there are still genuine Christians after all in this country. I left organized religion in 2000. I'd gotten tired of all the hypocrisy that I saw. I'm not an atheist. I just don't have trust in churches any more. You won't find out the true colors until after you join, then it's too late. I've chosen to remain unaffiliated. It's between me and God. I've lived this way for over 20 years now, and I'm fine. I don't need a religion to feel good about life. Same for political parties, I disaffiated after Jan 6, 2021, and I'm done. I'm a 68yo lifelong Independent, son of an Independent. My Dad would rather have watched a herd of toddlers in a ball pit for an hour than join a party. I've mostly voted Democrat the last 12 presidential elections, but I miss the old GOP, the one we would recognise with General Eisenhower, even Nixon. GOP began to jump ship with Ronny the Populist who let himself be entertained by the likes of Francis Schaeffer, Graham and others who got the country hooked on what is now morphed into Christian Nationalism. Does America not see that _______ (fill in the blank) Nationalism has been tried and tried all over Europe, caused wars and other problems, regardless of what goes into the blank? As a retired pastor of 35 years (I think I'm retired), I'm glad to see some of my brothers actually pull their spiritual heads out of their spiritual behinds and think about things. Don't let up; check your registration to vote; talk to others w/o arguing; put up a yard sign that folks can see every day on their way to/from work for the next ten weeks. That happened way before Trump. I know you're only 21 but you might want to read up a little bit on prior politics and how spiteful they were. Blocking legislation because one side or the other didn't like the bills has happened for many, many years. To insinuate Trump and his administration was the start of this trend is disingenuous. Individuals in the house and senate have been there more than a single administration. I'm just saying as a young soldier you should do a little research outside of MSNBC and read articles by journalists that aren't one sided (on both sides). Keep on growing and learning but don't get sucked into the one-sided aspects of this current political climate.
