***All of the discs with names on them I will be reaching out and texting them****
Had a fun day diving for disc golf discs at a course that I like to play. Came away with 36 discs total, and you will see in the video I got to hand deliver one back to its rightful owner already which was so cool!
Next time I will be bringing the GoPro in the water with me so stay tuned we will be doing more of these!

*I DO NOT ENCOURAGE, OR SUPPORT OTHER PEOPLE TRYING THIS* It is dangerous, risky and in the wrong area can be a bad decision as there are gators and other creatures that can harm you. I did this in a lake (island hole) that I knew/felt was safe.

I think having a culture of returning inked discs is good for the sport. It feels so good to get a disc back, especially one that's significant to your game or has good memories, and it also feels good to be the one to return that disc. Good vibes all around

So last year I lost a disc at a local course. Played the course 2 weeks later and stopped to take a leak. Someone shanks a shot and almost hits me, I look down and see the disc I lost 2 weeks ago with my name and number on the back. I picked it up and walked on to the next hole. I agree it felt great getting my disc back 😂

Problem is people tend to call the number, most people I know, me included don't pick up on strange numbers, if people just learn to text when they find a disc more discs would find their owners but I guess people like to feel they've tried and then keep the disc with a clear conscience and don't want to wise up. Text don't call!

Almost nobody on here agrees but losing disc is part of the game. In fact, for me buying new disc to replace old disc is part of the fun of the game. If I randomly find a disc, I’ll text the number every time but diving into water is going above and beyond for a disc that was long abandoned for good. I’ve even run into people using disc I’ve lost previously and told them I hope they’ve liked it as much as I did. Having said all that, if anyone finds my Orange Champ Innova Boss dyed with the Mortal Logo taking up the whole top. Hit me up please, I miss my baby… lol

If anyone else is trying to do this, the goggle method is hard because most ponds around are quite murky. I've found the best way is to just walk around and drag your feet and you'll bump them 👍

Thanks for this video. This was so awesome. While I do think there's a legitimate argument to classify the discs as abandoned, it is great to see that people are still willing to go above and beyond to do some good things in this world. I've had a couple people return me discs that I could not find in the water and it's motivated me to reach out to owners for every disc I find. Disc golf has such a cool community and I'm just happy to be part of it. Cheers!

Tip for searching in low visibility water: utilize a grid system so you’re able to thoroughly canvassing the area. I use stakes to mark the corners of a 8x8 foot section in shallow water. Bobbers tied to lead weights work well for deeper areas.

My local course has a monthly disc swap that unclaimed discs are added to. The disc swap is also a 2-for-1 deal. This is to help build a big collection of discs that are donated to youth organizations to help grow the sport. We don’t have any water hazards, but if we did, I can think of a few guys who would go diving and add the uninked discs to the donation bin.

Cool that you are making an effort to get them back to the people who lost them. I recently read this thread in one of the buying/selling disc groups about someone who went diving for discs and where selling them without getting in touch with people who had clearly marked their discs, so I think it's a messed up thing to do for profits in that way. Like most players would probably give a few bucks to get their discs back, but seems like a really nice way to gain friends in the community and start building a bag if you are not afraid of returning the discs. If you are not using them yourself, I think it would be nice to donate them to new players or offer to lend them out at the sports library if you have one locally

I just got back into disc golf and have no discs, so I've been day dreaming about doing this all week, this video was inspiration so I'll be going out to my local course (which has 5 baskets that are within 6 feet of water and two more which are more like 20 or 30, so I should find a TON). To your last question, I will definitely return any with contact info on them, but honestly the ones without info are going to be mine. It would be like flashing a wad of cash you found on the ground to a bunch of people and asking if they lost it. Like duh, of course it's their wad of cash! Of course if someone really wants to fight over it I'll give it to them, I might throw it back in the water though 😂

You need a pool noodle. You hug it under your arms across your chest to float, face down, without wasting energy to tread water. A second one across your hips helps, but can be a pain to put back each time you surface. You can let go to dive for a disc, then grab the noodle(s) to float almost effortlessly when you resurface. As for the discs, coming from somebody that retrieves a lot of discs from the water, I ALWAYS text the owner. Unmarked discs usually get donated to the local shop to sell as used, a rare few I keep if they're unmarked or the owner doesn't want them, but if they're marked, I ALWAYS try to contact the owner. I've lost 7 discs since I started playing, 2 in the water, and I've only had those two ever returned. One was returned from Florida (I'm in Iowa), which I threw into the water while on vacation. It's a great feeling getting one back. It's worth it to give them back, and there are plenty of discs unmarked or unwanted to not need to be greedy and keep marked discs.

Rightfully so, Yes, I would make an attempt out of respect for the game and Person, to make contact. I'm starting to really enjoy the game itself. I've already lost a couple disc and have spent countless moments when I take My Children, looking for Their disc when Their throwing and not watching where it lands. That all being said, You've earned Your keep.

By the title of the video, I thought u were just a random Joe, diving for disc for profit. I'm glad u at least are trying to return the discs, the sentimental value and story behind each is worth way more then what money can buy. We used to dive at our home course for the same reason and find like 15 discs in a day. Some of them had very crazy stories behind them, after the owner got them back 😎❤️ Edit: also if they don't want them back, maybe sell them for cheap and donate the money towards course funds! We do that at my local tags group

text every siungle one of them. The only right thing to do. IF there is a local club and it has a lost&found bin, drop them there instead. I run the L&F for my local club and it's seen as an invaluable service to the people who were not able to get in and get their own discs.. I charge a buck extra on top of shipping which sort of 'pay's the work and on top there is tons of karma. Good work :)

In my opinion you should contact all the disc with numbers on them. If you do not hear back from the people you contacted “THEN” the disc are fair game. The disc didn’t get abandoned just because they are sitting in the bottom of the pond. How would you feel if someone went disc diving and found your disc and then didn’t contact you?? Probably be upset. At the end of the day good on you for contacting people and at least trying to get the disc back to their rightful owners..

Because we also have a fb group that you can write if you have lost a disc and so on. And if the owners havent reached out or grabbed their discs, they sell them off for a cheap price compared to buying at the store.

Love that old school valkyrie! Reminds me of the good old days. I was throwing one of those 15 years ago...says something about how long that one could have been in the drink.

I think your original plan to call/text and see if they want to pay shipping is best.

I actually did the same thing last year when I threw one of my favorite discs in a pond, so I went for a swim and found 3 more discs that time. definitely text the number if there is one, or you put it in a lost and found box if they don't respond. I usually travel far to play so when I find someone's disc I just text them and tell them i put it in the box. If it doesn't have a name or number I think you're free to take it for yourself, like if they didn't bother to write their name on it, it can't have been that important
