You did the dirty work, so they are your discs now as far as I'm concerned. My disc goes into a pond, I know whats required to retrieve it. If I leave it, its not mine anymore. Normally when someone calls me with a disc they found that I lost, I tell them to enjoy it. Mostly mark my discs so if I leave it behind by accident and realize a couple holes later, I can go looking for it while I'm still out there, its an easy conversation.

And that makes sense to me, but there’s been so many guys that got so pissed so I’m gonna make sure I try to return every one that I find from now on. My latest disc golf video I didn’t keep a single one.

@@Benjamminoutdoors Yea man, it’s a pretty touchy subject in the disc golf community. Just do what your gut tells ya. I’m of the opinion that if someone has to go to a ton of effort to retrieve a disc (like a pond), it’s yours. Now personally, I always return finds when I can, hoping for good karma. But if I sink a disc in the water, as far as I’m concerned, that disc is no longer mine. At the very least, returning water discs should pay out for a “finders fee”. Just my two cents
@Benjamminoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
@@Cdubp01 yeah I know that now, last dive it did I gave every single one I found to the course designer and their team. Wow I thought when I bought a disc gator and some waders that I was going all out for my disc water retrieval needs. You guys don't mess around! I lost my black putter in a river recently after air balling a putt, and fishing around in that water felt pretty gross. Sharp drop off from the bank to about my waist in about 7 or 8 feet, plus all the silt billowing everywhere anytime I took a step made the rescue effort that much more arduous. I had to wait until nightfall so I could see below the surface without any reflections from natural light. It took me a couple attempts but I did eventually find it standing on its side. I'm glad I found it when I did because heavy rains came in soon after and the water level went up a foot or two and the current could have taken it away. Glad you got to get some of them back to the owners!

I lost many in the waters but find many as well (not a single one of mine has been returned as of yet). If I find 20 discs, only 5 respond and then only 3 of them will actually pick it up (not going to bring it to them). Truth of the matter is, I know that I can potentially lose a disc and for that reason will throw a floating disc. Floating discs are not expensive and neither are retrievers but if it's more important for you to buy a bunch of drivers for 175ft holes instead, so be it.
@rogerhuston82874 жыл бұрын
When I lived in Berkeley, CA, we had a homeless fellow make a raft and he would use a pole to very adeptly catch the bottom rim and spin the disc to the surface. He would then sell the discs back to us for a few bucks each. Seemed more than fair. You always had first dibs on your disc.

You may have already picked up on this, but I just want to reiterate that in the disc golf community it's bad etiquette to dive for discs and sell them without attempting to text the numbers on the back of the discs. If you don't get a response within a couple days then it's technically yours and if they do respond, just ask for some money to cover your out of pocket expenses. If someone really wanted their disc back they'd be more than willing to pay $5-10. Best of luck to you and your channel!

Just an after thought from a disc golf lover, most disc golf players love to see what kind of disc your pulling out of the pond, just for our curiosity, like just to see if there’s anything rare or pre flight numbers, and when you pull one up, and only give us a half glance at the stamp on it, it’s kind of a tease :/ I kept watching to see at the end if you showed us what all discs you found, and you didn’t. Then I felt like a kid you take to a candy store just to look at everything and then leave without buying anything. Lol. Not hating, just next time let’s see what those discs are. You can show the camera what it is right after you grab it while your still under water, simple as that! Other wise awesome video man, i wish I could scuba and go do the same thing

Had time to dive for them and make a video but not time to return them!?! No lost and found at the course for you to leave them with?? I dunno just bad vibes man!!! Seems like because you have the gear your like hey i know where i can get some disc. I would happily pay for you to ship something that I lost or tell you to keep it or donate it but not caring to give people that option then why dive in the first place let alone post it on KZbin. Even those with numbers be like hey found your disc 5/10 bucks you can have it back cost me money to dive for them its only fair. Or get contracted by the course itself to reimburse your time and equipment. Only part I don't care for in disc golf community too many finders keepers attitudes. I found over 100 disc last season turned them all in but 1 the owner replied to my text keep it I hate that disc anyways.

How come I never do this?!? This looks like a super easy way to get discs!!

@@Benjamminoutdoors oh really? Hmm, well if you have a wetsuit, you should be good right? I wish I could go diving but I don't have the gear. Where was that pond located?

There's a guy in Mobile Duds that dives in all the local disc golf ponds and posts the discs on his Facebook page. Duds is a hero. Unless you guys tried to contact some of the numbers on those discs then you should probably take down this video!
@Benjamminoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I’m not gonna take it down, but I’m going to be returning the discs from now on you can see my latest disc golf dive video I actually gave them all to the course director so he could distribute them to the owners.

@@Benjamminoutdoors that's good to hear. If they are blank they are fair game but I would still not feel as if I was entitled to other people's plastic.

If you take an estimate of $15,- per disc you get over $800,- worth of discs right there.

If only people quit throwing drivers on 280 foot holes.
@AlexKalicinski3 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Anderson I mean if you get your desired outcome then, Thats what works for you. But there are discs designed better for shots in that range. I digress though, I cant just what works for you.
@AlexKalicinski3 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Anderson 300 on in should be pretty attainable with throwing a putter. Or a light throw with a heavy fade with a mid. 6/7/8 speeds 350-400. 9/10/12+ for 400+. Honestly I dont get 14+ speed drivers.
@AlexKalicinski3 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Anderson Neither do I! Discs do depends on a ton of variables. Too many for me to judge! Type of plastic, weight, altitude, air density. What works just works! I bite my tongue!

Yeah, I know where you're at and I've lost a couple disc in that pond. Hope you're trying to return disc that have phone numbers on them!

You’d find more if you didn’t disturb so much sediment
@Benjamminoutdoors5 жыл бұрын
There’s was vegetation so I had to feel under it, this dive was more by feel than by sight. If I relied just on sight I would’ve missed 80% of them cause they were under THICK sediment and grass.

I’m sorry, but I’m not ganna Call 50 #s over an item that costs $15 or less, If you lost an iPhone or Apple Watch then it’s worth every second to return it. if you REALLY cared that much you would have gone in after them just sayin’.

Some of us DO CARE that much as some of those discs are worth more than that. We care but we also follow the rules that are clearly posted about not going into the pond
@Benjamminoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Blake Vinyard well if you cared so much but not enough to get in that’s not my problem and don’t expect to get them back if I did the work and risked getting in. And ALL the golfers I came across I asked them if they lost some and I returned all that I could that way.
