I visited Cabo Pulmo this week and we saw 11 bull sharks at the wreck site. It was so incredible. I was transfixed by them. Their power, their effortlessness, their grace. As a newbie diver, (this was only my 11th dive), this incredible experience has made me so eager to dive with more sharks, dolphins, whale sharks, seals, etc. And also help do cleanups locally in Canada (where dive in dry suits).

First time I was in the water with sharks was in Los Roques Venezuela. Sadly the guides there tend to scare them off by chasing them. I went to see them three times, last time I saw them I convinced the local operator (Who isn't from Los Roques) to ditch the local freediver guide. I decided to apply everything I had read about sharks and we just sat still there waiting. That day we shared an hour up close with 7-9 Lemmon and Black Tips sharks who felt safe enough to check us out. Goes to show how more scared they are of us than us of them and how curious they can be.

Great video guys. That's incredible how close you got to the sharks. We totally agree with you on the misrepresentation of sharks. Nice job presenting the numbers, should help change perspective.

I'm digging your new intro! Travelling on the back of a truck looks great fun. Much better than a bus in my opinion ;) it's wonderful that the locals are working together to help preserve the area. The bull sharks are so beautiful! I'd love to be able to experience this myself. I didn't realise they were the most dangerous sharks in the world. I can't get over how many sharks are killed each year :(

Thanks for dropping by! Cabo Pulmo is for sure a one of a kind place. Not too long ago this was a fishing village, but now the whole community is working together in tourism and protects the area as National Park. Cheerio!

Great footage ! The shark at 3mn24 is not a bullshark: it looks like a Lemon shark (or maybe a sand Tiger ?). All these species are documented in Cabo Pulmo)
@bugsandbears5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you're right. Good spot! We've been discussing about this guy a few times and think it's a lemon shark 🦈! Yes, all of the shots in this video are from Cabo Pulmo. We really enjoyed the National Park there 💙!

This is such a good video. It would be nice to see the end of shark fishing. Great job guys.
@bugsandbears5 жыл бұрын
That would indeed be an awesome thing to see. By the way, the 100 million per year are the officially reported numbers, so experts say the true numbers could be as high as 270 mio. dead sharks per year. Thanks, for watching!
@AdventuresThings5 жыл бұрын
@@bugsandbears that is absolutely disgusting and is most of it for shark fin soup?
@bugsandbears5 жыл бұрын
@@AdventuresThings Yes, apparently finning contributes directly to the killing of almost half of these sharks. Crazy! Also, many sharks end up as bycatch (like turtles etc.) or are killed by consuming plastic waste.

There’s plenty of Bull Sharks in the waterways near me, as they’re a great place for the shark pups to grow up. Personally I wouldn’t swim there because Bull Sharks do have a nature of being highly unpredictable. The underwater shots you captured were fantastic
@bugsandbears5 жыл бұрын
That sounds beautiful and yes, we wouldn't recommended going swimming there. As divers we have an advantage being on the same level, making slow movements and not surprising them. But, there are also Freedivers, swimming in bull shark regions and diving down to give the bull sharks a visit. It's something that can be done with knowledge about how and where to do it.

Amazing video! I was lucky enough to dive many years ago in Jupiter, FL during the lemon shark mating season. I was surrounded by over 200 of them! Such graceful creatures

Wow! 200 Lemon sharks sounds like quite an unforgettable experience! We had one lemon shark that sneaked into this dive at 03:25, the others were around 20 bull sharks! Are you still scuba diving once in a while?

@@bugsandbears Lucky I had been diving most of my life . I had over 400 dives from all over the world when I had my dive accident. The dive doctor told me that only 5% of the people live Through what had what happened to me . I still can snorkel as long as I don't go deeper than one atmosphere 😊

Nice vid. I'm not sure I would be so comfy down there with the sharks but lovely footage. Did you do the underwater stuff with a gopro or something in a housing?
@bugsandbears5 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, thanks man! Haha, nothing to worry about. Those sharks don't usually see a scuba diver as prey, it's the opposite, as soon as we breathe, they're scared of our bubbles and swim away. All of the underwater footage is filmed on our GoPro. 🦈
