What an incredible woman! Running the gauntlet of the yobbos in Geelong, to lead singer and songwriter of this excellent band. Then she found the love of her life a jazz drummer in New York. A life cut too short, but what a life and what an example to women. She lives on with spirit. The best answer to your enemies is success. She nailed it.

I love a lot of aussie bands that came out of the 70s and some from the 90s but the 80s produced an unbelievable body of work from so many excellent bands who cut their teeth performing live at pubs and clubs. With the fall away in that music scene (pokies maybe to blame?) and the advent of auto tune, I really cannot believe that we will ever see anything like it again on that scale.
@sebastianmatarelli56024 жыл бұрын
I really thought jezabels would push on after synthia, great album imo, however fate would have it that their keyboardist had to get treated for cancer so their world tour was cancelled. hayley mary, their lead singer, has released some very beautiful solo songs this year but unfortunately they didn't really boom. the old fashioned well structured rock just doesnt make hits like it did back in the day. All the kids want songs that dont sound like music. something they can grasp and say "i bet you haven't heard anything like this before" no matter how unpleasant it may be on your ears. (think grunge to genx or emocore to millenials.) Her solo EP slaps if you're into that high intensity classic rock or alt rock. My emphasis is on younger people because the 35+ crowd doesn't really listen to new bands unless its something thats a generic overproduced hit.

It's disappointing that everyone seems to think Divinyls were a one-hit wonder. Not only did they make great music for more than a decade but considering that they became big at a time when on the whole style in general was shit should make them stand out more than that. Perhaps it's like all musicians though. When they try to write music that is essentially pushing the social boundaries or is a straight up social commentary, the critics pan them. Goes to show you that just as with genius, great art is seldom recognised in its own time. Sexiest chick in a school uniform I've ever seen on stage. RIP Chrissy

I was very upset to discover the lovely lead singer Ms. Amphlett was gone, and for years now, a mixture of me just not knowing and not seeing it anywhere until now, unless the mostly reported it in Australia? This saddens me like it just happened with the ridiculous loss of great musical talent this year. The Divinyls shaped me growing up and was one of the first Cd's I ever listened to all the way through at my School library. I will miss her like I knew her.

I was a student in Brisbane at the time of her death, had been in Australia less than 3 months. Her death was covered in all the TV networks. At the time I knew vaguely of Divinyls, that unfortunate event made me rediscover their music - "Pleasure and Pain" is my personal favourite.
@deborahcurtis13852 жыл бұрын
You did know her. I know this sounds freaky but on a night that a different musician died without realising he was dead I had a very strong urge to play his music and in particular to sing a song that resonated so much with me. And I felt a real presence in the room. It's beyond description but it happened. The artist? Leonard Cohen. The song? First We Take Manhattan. Truly great music is transcendant. It's a portal. I've experience this enough to know this is true. (You did know her). What confuses the issue is when fans want too much from the artist and think they know everything or want to know 'everything' however mundane. The artist is in the art. Simple sounding but true on a profound level.
