I miss paying for servers, id rather pay my monthly sub for example new world if I choose a server and if people want to expand that server most of the money should go for server capacity, cosmetics etc are never gonna go away so I guess those are now sort of a staple in modern gaming, and for some games I def bought more than I needed. But like for the server stuff man having your own and having control over that would be so cool in this modern age, streamers could have their own, different communities could have their own, maybe if server merges could happen from the customer side that would be huge and I would welcome that change. And in regards to the how to have less brain rot well executives make decisions based on numbers, if people would stop flocking to all the brain rot content to buy ... they wouldn't make it in the first place, not an mmo but Forever Winter makes me very hyped for some hopefully bigger change in the gaming landscape. We just need more successful games that don't adhere to the bullshit and others will follow, basically a new different prophet for the rest to follow, and people will always follow like sheep it's inescapable from us a species sadly. Not everyone is capable of having their own critical thinking.

Hello, Grand Wizard. First, I want to say that I agree with your opinion about forced, artificial changes to stories, gameplay, and so on. The world is diverse, and people are different, and it's important to show that, but it has to match the setting, story, and overall vibe. Also, screw those entitled, self-righteous people judging others on X (formerly Twitter) while typing from their overpriced, subpar iPhones. Anyway, on to the main point about the lack of epic lore. I think the main reason for this lack of new epic lore is that people don't really need more right now. The epic lore you're referring to was popularized or created during their youth, and they still love it today. The only difference is that now they have the money to buy and consume more of it. So, the "current generation" of epic lore is still alive because the people who grew up with it are still consuming it and have the economic power to keep it on life support. I honestly think we need to wait for our children (or even the children of people born in the 2010s) to grow up before a new wave of lore is created for them and by them. The question is whether we will like it... but by then, we'll be old boomers needing pills to remember not to crap our pants, so who cares?

I used to be of the opinion that voting with your wallet doesn't work, because the majority of consumers are loathsome dung eaters. However, no one bought Dustborn or Concord, while Stellar Blade and Wukong became hits. This may be because of growing consumer awareness - and what we should do is continue growing it by mercilessly making fun of bad games. I know people, and let me tell you, there's not many things more frightening to marketing teams than their product becoming a meme fodder. With the low rates and broken economy since 2008, the whole economy has been playing on easy mode and a lot of people has the wrong impression that they are good. Thus with no competition any market will eventually collapse to a zombie market - serving a few large customers or make decisions that are not economically sound. Same with the gaming industry - the good game designers and producers lost their jobs to some random people that concinced the investors that they are good (while they played on easy mode). It is all malinvestment. If the economy is broken, there is no middle class. If there is no middle class, you get a pay-to-win shift.

Regarding good tales/stories from the west created in the past 20 years, there are plenty of them, some that are extremely huge, others not as mainstream, but they are all in book format only, without movie or game adaptations yet, but I have no hopes that an adaptation for them would be good. Some examples of these are Joe Abercrombie's The First Law series and Brandon Sanderson's books, they are really good.

I think compromising the visual progression in games is the only feasible option to provide a good gaming experience while also allowing the developer to make money off selling cosmetics. take GGG's PoE as an example, you can play and enjoy the game as a free 2 play or with very minor investments for stash tabs, but if you want your character to look cool then you pay for cosmetics. it also has to be mentioned that you can also get free cosmetics by completing league challenges and yes I know these aren't as good as the MTX shop ones but they signify that you completed certain challenges to get them and iirc they can not be obtained from the mtx shop. another example would be Riot's LoL and TFT Games, both are free to play and you play at equal footing with everyone else regardless of how many skins they bought, these games also allow you to gain free skins by playing the game so it's not like you're missing out.

Things like Stalker, or Genshin Impact, or Attack on Titan. The point of the exercise is that we can name a ton of examples since before 20 years ago but nothing recent. Loli has been the best way to remove brain rot from video games and communities. The simple reason is that those people pretend to absolutely hate those characters but secretely like them. So the issue is that they have to outwardly hate them and can't associate with the community. That means you eventually have higher quality communities due to this filter. You see this with communities like Blue Archive having a much better quality than that of something like Genshin Impact. You also even see this difference with another Mihoyo title in that ZZZ has a lot of loli characters that are sexualized in a way that Genshin doesn't so you end up having a filter. The ZZZ community literally had to make unofficial forums because jannies banned anything related to loli, which even included screenshots of the game itself. At the end of the day, the biggest thing you're arguing for is "creative vision". Developers should be free to make whatever they want without needing to feel like they can't or have to do something in order to mark checkboxes. If you don't like loli that's fine, but it's something a lot of us like about Eastern games. We either find the characters cute or attractive. Furries are in a similar boat. I don't like furry stuff, but I don't mind if a game adds that stuff in as long as it was there from the start and isn't like WoW where they randomly made models more furry-esque in order to pander to their new degenerate fanbase of ERPers. The reason I argue any of this is because removing certain aspects of a game because you may personally find it "icky" is how we even ended up in this position in the first place. We have to learn from history. The past 20 years is the greatest counter to the slippery slope being a fallacy. It's not. Small changes that were tolerable quickly changed into large ones where now nobody gives a sh*t about western AAA games. Society as a whole is rotting because we allowed too many changes and extremists to tell us what we could and couldn't like. As long as it's fictional, there's no valid argument for removing things in any country that claims to allow freedom of expression. So yeah, it's a shame that things have gotten to this point, but hopefully we're reaching peak insanity soon. I think lots of people are starting to get fed up and you see this in the complete failure of these "woke" games recently. You can only be so progressive until you progress to bankruptcy and actually have to pay bills and feed yourself and others.

Environmental concern, technological stalemate, economic pressures on resources are more of a problem with current economic models and allocation of recourses. It is the current overall right leaning economic model in the west that is more of an issue in these areas. They not related to DEI. It’s a typical move where more right-wing thinkers link criticism of current neoliberal economics to specific cultural ideas. However, this is not the case. I don't mind fat and ugly characters, there are plenty popular characters like that, like Homer from Simpsons or Family Guy, or South Park. From games as well, last year Nexon made a fun little game called Dave the Diver, where you play as a fat guy in a skintight dive suit. But these characters main qualities aren't being fat, you can describe and portray them without even mentioning their weight, the problem comes when being fat and ugly is the main characteristic and selling point, damned inclusivity. Everything about the character should have a reason behind it, not the "this character exists because we need fat character"

The decision makers of big companies want to force DEI, but don't want to pay their employees enough to actually put DEI into their products. Or give them the time to come up with a reasonable implementation for that matter. It would be so easy to create an extra town in a movie, tv show or even video game, which consists of indigenous people. Then add some lore to why they are here, what their beliefs are, what's their purpose in life, and so on. Instead of the usual cases: - Taking existing characters and turning them black. - Random gender swaps. - "Strong and independent" females with tragic, illogical background stories for the sake of giving her a reason to be strong now. etc. So, what we would need for an improvement in the catergory DEI, by my understanding, are better decision makers in big companies. People, who are not afraid to fall, or to apologize. People, who stand behind their words and actions. People, who believe their own words.

I think it's an issue with commercialization of inclusivity. When you have upper middle class white likely men in marketing telling other middle class white men how many diversity points they need to hit, you are not going to end up with anything proper. The same goes for those for those for profit DEI companies that are used to just fill a quota when shipping a product. A lot of the examples when people yell about media being too "woke" nowdays are those paint by number implementations. I do not believe anyone liked how JKR tried to save face by redconning the Harry potter cast. I quickly checked Christine Love's 2012-2017 work on Metacritic and I did not find people compaining about wokage (It was mostly about people expecting more gameplay besides reading). I have no clue what is happening with LotR, but the last time I heard about W40K bs it was that Space Marines should not be women. Are they not just people taking in the gene seed and mutating to some humanoid pile of muscle showed into suits? If the people were arguing that they should not be either, I would get the whining, but a lot people were saying Space Marines can only be male for some reason.

I'm sorry to point out that you just made the "and yet you participate in society" argument. I'm one of those people you describe, and I know about how a bunch of crap I buy came from really poor countries, there's very little I can do about it, I try my best to limit my impact on the planet and its people by choosing what I buy and from who and where (I also realize that being able to do that is a privilege, and that a lot of people can't do that). What should I do about it? Should I stop replacing my phone? Should I stop buying shoes? I stopped playing video games from cunts who protect their sexual predators friends and products from shady company because I can not buy a video game and chose competing products, but there's some stuff I don't have the luxury to chose. Also, cramming that argument with the diversity argument doesn't make much sense, the people who made my phone live in terrible conditions so I shouldn't talk about diversity in media? And my two cents on diversity, I think diversity is great, it has no practical drawback. A more diverse cast of characters means bringing a more diverse set of lives, experiences and opinions in your story, which makes for better stories. And including every part of the population is only fair, really. Especially because white people are still the majority of central characters in every type of media.

Blaming dei for everything doesn’t work. Plenty of forced inclusive games are successful. Concord failed because it feels like a cheap gog clone in an over saturated genre looking and playing generic as fuck. Trying to force endless profits for shareholders is the issue and the reason why everything with a boardroom and csuit is failing these days. Nobody wants a live action remake of an old Disney cartoon, nobody wants another generic hero shooter. If you try something new like deadlock, it will work, if you do concord which offers nothing, then it’s bad. It really is that simple.

I disagree, the issue is they targeted this game towards the modern audience, you can't tell me that if everything is kept the same except the the characters are changed to ones from Azur Lane that the game wouldn't have people going out of their way to buy and play the game even if it offers nothing new gameplay wise.
