As much as I love these video reviews, can we all just take a moment to comment on how good Mutable Instrument's manuals are? Crisp, concise, warm. For all their efficiency, I never feel 'hurried along' when reading them. I just appreciate well-written technical documents that manage to convey complicated topics in a conversational way without eliding detail. It's honestly one of the first things I look at when thinking about a new module.

@@rucasm very hard to interpret what was meant by your comment. Just that writing - 'really?' - immediately comes across as relatively sarcastic and questioning, and we live in an age unfortunately where people frequently write quite mean and nasty things online. So a simple word with a question mark is quite confusing in a response. That's all. I'm calm, but I also like good manners 😀

Underrated. It is difficult to visualize “clouds two” as a voice in itself, not just a multifaceted (*muteable*) processor. The pots also function as selectors. It’s loaded with Easter eggs. She even left bread crum LEDs to show us the way. 🤯 No one knew how to market such an advanced module to a one-module, one-function, world. Looking at this video, which Ben did a good job on, it’s difficult to genuinely comprehend what Èmilie did for her swan song.

Thanks for this review. Which envelope module did you used on 37:43 How to time stretch with Beads? I use Pamela´s new work out but the triangle seems to be not linear. I´m looking for a good linear envelope generator to use it on the Time knob and have full control of the playback.
@DivKid2 жыл бұрын
Hello, the triangle out of Pamela's NEW Workout should be absolutely linear. Do you have a scope or way to test that? Lots of envelope generators are log/expo in shape and not linear. It's a falling ramp wave, or downward saw (sometimes called different names) in the video. A triangle wave would play forwards and backwards, which could be really cool.

what does this even mean? you know they've been making thousands of tape emulation/saturation/lofi plugins for years now, right? or pedals, like oto boum or the analog heat or generation loss. if you want a digital emulation of tape degradation, it wouldnt be the smartest move to buy a 350 eurorack module that is sold out until july and a case and a power supply. a 4 track can record, mix, saturate with real analog pre amps, do no input feedback. i dont think the people who buy them over using a plugin or pedal would buy this specifically for that purpose instead of the many other options that have existed for a long time now. so weird that people ar eeven focuing on that aspect of beads. this is what clouds should have been all along, nebulae with internal s&h lfos and a more hq dsp

This is an incredible video (obviously) and one I keep coming back to as I try to get to grips with Beads. The one section that confuses me though is the “feedback” part at the 20 min mark. Divkid talks about a feedback loop, but I can’t follow what is feeding back into what? Please explain, as it sounds amazing and I’d love to emulate it.
@DivKid2 жыл бұрын
hi Jonathan, Feedback is output back into input. Which is what's happening on here. With any feedback you want an attenuator in that feedback path so you can control it. If you make it a VCA rather than an attenuator you then have voltage controlled feedback too. In this particular patch I'm splitting one of the outputs (both go to my mixer) into Blades so I can filter and drive (drive down low attenuates to help control it) it. Hope that helps.
