No Jewish divorce is complete without the man literally giving the woman her freedom back. Divorce Denied follows several 'chained' women together with Batya Kahana Dror, a religious lawyer, who embarks on a struggle against the rabbinical courts. She believes the laws must be changed according to our time.

This is so horrible. The fact you can’t just divorce someone and you’re forced to stay in a relationship with someone whom you no longer want to be with. We don’t know what they go through at home. We don’t know why they want to get divorced but it doesn’t matter. They should be able to take their freedom back. Some of us don’t realize how lucky we are to have our freedom

I don't care what your religion is, where you're from or background. As a woman: If I did NOT want to be in a commitment any longer and im denied that right because "my husband" refuses... id change into a totally different person. Ultimately, there would be a divorce. You can't change someone's mind, they can only do it for themselves. Tragic to see beautiful women stuck in a relationship they don't even want to be in.

What was not mentioned in this video: „men in an Orthodox marriage, by virtue of the fact that they get to hand over a get - or not - hold the divorce power. In Israel, men who withhold gets can be jailed, their driver’s license or medical license can be taken away. In America, where there is a constitutional separation between church and state, secular courts cannot meddle in a religious agreement.“ „Secular courts can, however, enforce contracts like pre-nuptial agreements, and that’s why some in the Orthodox community have been pushing for pre-nups for years. A typical pre-nup mandates that in case of divorce, the husband will provide the wife with a get, and if he doesn’t, he could be forced to pay thousands of dollars a month - a financial penalty that a secular court could enforce.“

The ending of this video says that the rabbis put off Guy's release for divorce. They did not grant the divorce that Noa wanted, and I am also glad. I live in the US, and in every state of which I'm aware, one cannot divorce one's spouse, if he or she has become sick or disabled. Our marriage vows state "in sickness and in health", and the divorce courts hold one to that. Noa's not much, it seems to me. She obviously never loved Guy, if she could divorce him when he's in that disabled condition. The end of this video also states that Guy died shortly after this was completed.
@wolfsbane1991
@wolfsbane1991 6 ай бұрын
That’s what happens when you are forced into a marriage. That was an arranged marriage. She never loved him. She was forced into a marriage with a guy she didn’t love. This is all the more reason to abolish religious meddling when it comes to human relationships. Poor woman. Of course she doesn’t want to be a caretaker for a diseased man she never loved in the first place!
@SaturnaliaJones
@SaturnaliaJones 6 ай бұрын
An arranged marriage is different than a forced marriage. I didn't hear Noa say she was forced into marrying Guy or that she never loved him. I hope I missed it, I hope that really was the case. Because if not she didn't get the "for better or worse/sickness and health" part of her vows. How can you call yourself a religious person but then decide to bail when God's plan for your life isn't what you had in mind? Guy died a few months later, God was going to let her move on and rather than have grace she complained and wanted to leave him. It's shameful and I'm glad God put Guy out of his misery of both his condition and her rejection.

Marriage requires both party’s assent, why wouldn’t divorce? Btw, I’m not sure I agree with that line of thought, but it’s a reasonable question. In some cultures, marriage is serious business, it actually means something more than a tax write off. Ultimately, though, marriage is still a contract, and if the man can’t or won’t fulfill their obligations, they shouldn’t then retain control over the dissolution of the contract. Pretty sure most Abrahamic religions see it the same way.

This is the problem with orthodox types of religions. They have very narrow blinders on and there is no room for other points of view. The strictness of their rules should not allow them to block someone who no longer wants to live that way or under those types of rules. @@lenitaa7938there’s a separation in America, meaning that in most cases the state laws actually take a backseat depending on the religion. Not in terms of being luddites, but in terms of having their own set of rules, their own courts, their own tax laws, etc. There are some Muslim communities that are currently pressing for similar rights, except they want their little Sharia courts to supersede state courts even for non-Muslims.

This is a recipe to make sure people never want to get married. But it's also sad that people enter into relationships so easily now. Back in the day, both families got to know each other. Accountability and mutual respect, are bonds and cords holding couples together. Those are missing today. These things should bind us together, not the law. This is honestly very sad and I wish the woman luck. I’ve seen a lot of comments mentioning Islam for some reason even if the video has nothing to do with it. So to clarify a women in Islam can get a divorce even if the husband refuses. The reason for divorce can be lack of love and affection or something as serious as abuse or cheating. The women can get the divorce quickly. I’ve literally seen this done because a woman I know got divorced in one court hearing. Literally took her a day to finalize the divorce. Divorce is looked down upon and viewed as negative because it’s separates the family but both men and women can initiate the divorce in Islam for whatever reason they have. It’s also a sin to just leave you wife for two years without granting divorce like what the first Lady in the video had if deal with.

The girl in the second story who was married for 9 years, I'm so happy for her. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for the girl who is trying to get divorced for 2 years but the girl for 9 years, I'm so happy that she finally got her divorce after she had kept on trying and got denied. She deserves so much better her and her unborn child.

Each to his own as they say and I am completely with anyone who would want to end a marriage where there is abuse, but I have a very difficult time with the one trying to get divorce her husband, because he is invalid/disabled - whatever happened to the promise in sickness and health?" unless they are not telling us the full story... any religion, decree, agreement whatever it maybe called that gives one party power over the other is wrong! Unfortunately, in MOST cultures outside of what is commonly referred to as "developed countries" "it is a man's world" that women and girls live in deprived of their basic, God given rights. How could anyone ask a man who cannot express with full understanding of the situation he is in sign a document of any kind and then he consented? But glad in the end that it was his time to go before signing anything, leaving Noa a free woman. I know her case was said it was still open before Guy died, I hope his death closes his case now. Oh! this life...

They picked really bad examples! The women came across as being bad/evil: 1 got pregnant by another man (adultery), 1 prevented her husband from seeing their baby by getting an automatic jail order if he shows up in the country (cruel), and 1 wanted so badly to ditch her husband once he got sick (disloyal & deserting him in his time of need).
@gghstlr
@gghstlr 5 ай бұрын
Not really. All of those women had valid reasons to leave. And no one was preventing any of the fathers from seeing their children. The men have all the power in that situation, and it’s unconscionable for them to not grant a divorce.

We also, as viewers, must acknowledge that we’ve only been given a glimpse into the end of these relationships. We don’t know if there was physical/emotional/financial abuse, everyday laws they’d need a husband to co-sign on that prevent them from caring for their children as single mothers, and any other reasons. Most problems are more complex than which party is bad or evil. Stop looking for a bad guy to blame in real life scenarios

Our physical body is composed of molecules and energy, all species and life in the universe are composed and manifested by energy frequency, there are 12 dimensions in the universe, due to the difference in vibration frequency, so we and intelligent life in the dimension will be different, the higher the dimension of life is in the existence of light energy body! The universe has the law of free will, the law of non-interference in each dimension, when human beings go astray, Heaven will give appropriate intervention, Heaven has been sending high dimensional intelligent life to help and guide the life in the lower dimensional space, the purpose is to let human beings avoid going to ruin again! The laws of the whole universe are driven and operated by the laws of Heaven. We are all from the same source, we are all children of the Creator, we are all one!

The other side of the coin! Or in Spain, where one’s political views, whether Conservative or Liberal can have u executed or sent to a ‚camp‘!! All depended on which side had the manpower and guns on that day and time! It was horrific! So, it’s not so much the religion itself, but certain leaders who abuse their power!
