I was there and yes...it was a moment. Haha. I was only 15 years old and just began playing fiddle! Inspired by Martie. I'm 33 now. Still playing all their solos and riffs. And more. Also inspired to pick up dobro by Emily. It was like we were rolling, but nobody needed drugs! Everyone sang every word of every frickin' song! The energy of everyone, knowing it was being filmed for TV...no cell phones. I saw more than a few crying faces when the audience sang, and Natalie shouted, "your turn"! I was bawling!! You could really feel everyone's love. For the Chicks, and strangely, each other!!

I'll always love Natalie. I see this video and the command that she had over the audience is nothing short of amazing. There were mixed feelings in the band at this time, but she still had them all in the palm of her hand, whether she was completely in the moment or not. Regardless of any inner feelings, she was well aware that the cameras were rolling for this show. The talent can't be taken away...the whole band is in the moment and definitely delivered.

There is in these four minutes some mystical combination of elements - the empowering Susan Gibson lyrics, the joyful performance, the palpable happiness of the crowd, the unanimous singalong that elevates this to anthem - that sparks a smile that turns into laugh that somehow induces even tears. Rare is the song that can attain this and if you don't feel a slight surge of communal optimism upon watching it then, well... bummer. (Love that little hello from Emily to someone at 1:31.)
