You are so right. Mr. Carroll is a very nice man and can play a guitar better than anyone I've ever met. Thankfully he's still alive. My dad Mr. James B. Davis, the founder of the Birds, passed in 2007. I remember sitting at the very top of our stairs listening to them practice. Talk about great. Lord have mercy, talk about music fr the soul.

I was blessed to have seen the "Birds" quite a few times going back to 1955 when they were touring with Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers. That was the original group with Bo Bo on bass.Saw them again early 80s when James Walker was still alive and got to talk with him briefly. The last time I saw them was twice in the 90s when Carl Davis and Paul Owens (Paul was a member back in the 40s) from the Swan Silvertones has joined the Hummingbirds.. I talked with Ira for a long time, and what a gentleman he was. He even gave me his address and telephone number to call and chat with him. Fantastic group; fantastic individuals. By the way, Howard Caroll and Paul Owens were original members of the Nightingales.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Howard Carroll and the rest of the birds as well perform with them on programs.I am a quartet guitar player and I was inspired by Mr.Carrolls playing when I was 20 yrs.old.I am now 44 yrs.old mr. carroll heard me play and he told me that "Man you play some mean licks on that guitar. I felt very overwhelmed by his comment.

Vocally, Tuck and James Walker were 2 BAD BOYS!!!! No one, in my opinion, can touch those fellas! And Mr. Howard Carroll, on that guitar, was in a class by himself; gospel or secular, PERIOD!!! This sounds sooooo good! God Bless you for uploading this one gospellin!!!! Brings back so many memories. My dad had this very same album, and I will never forget listening to it in the living room with him. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this!! This really take me back to when I was a small child. These songs was sung in the 40's and 50's in those wooden churches in small communities. My father would gather the neighbors in the communities and his family in a large truck with cattle racks and take ever one to church!! He loved THE Dixie Hummingbirds and so do we his 12 children. These men were great singers with great God given talents!!

He's one of the nicest people too. I was 15 and I had his phone number on this vhs concert tape i had and my brother said I should call it to see if he was actually there. I did and we talked for a little while and he told me to call whenever I wanted. That's a TRUE man of God!

This really takes me back!! My brother love these guys and so do the rest of my family. The songs really have a message if one was born in a small community. When the elders and deacons put their voices together!! In the 40's and 50's. My Father would travel far and near to those wooden churches. He also the Dixie Hummingbirds!! Thanks for posting this it so refreshing!!!

That's a great testimony and just re-confirms what I've always believed that a word of encouragement goes a long way. Our words and actions really reflect who we are. I'll be talking with him soon and will pass these comments to him.
