Quite simply brilliant ! This is one of my Top 5 favourites from Abba . Frida surpasses herself - her vocals have never had such passion in them and Agnetha ,when she joins in at the third chorus, is superlative . The melody is beautiful and the production is impeccable .I will never comprehend why Bjorn and Benny felt this was not good enough to make it onto the "Super Trouper" album. It ought not only to have been on the album but also released as a single , imho .

It was recorded in 1980 but the songwriters didn't believe that it would make a strong single. As a result, "Put On Your White Sombrero" would remain unreleased until 1994 when it debuted on the box set Thank You for the Music. It has subsequently been included as a bonus track on most CD reissues of the Super Trouper album since 1997.

Re: metallic hard edge in unison Per Bjorn: The high octave unison (both girls, same pitch) and that shimmering metallic edge. That edge comes from Frida. He has explained this in many interviews over the years. Paraphrasing Bjorn: - Agnetha is a pure soprano - Frida is a mezzo-soprano with a very large range He said they sang a lot in high unison --- singing the same pitch. He said that trademark metallic edge comes from Frida. He explains that Agnetha being a pure soprano it is within her pure soprano range and Frida being a mezzo-soprano has the further travel to high unison pitch. When Frida matched Agnetha, coming from below, Frida puts a hard/metallic edge to her voice and that is ehen that metallic sound is produced. He also said that their is nothing that Frida cannot sing. He has explained, in a tactful way, that Frida is an exceptional vocal talent.

Absolutely, when she holds the note on ‘You’ in “Like an old fashioned hero, You…………….. stand before me” I’m gone. What a note and it reminds me of Agnetha holding a note in “Winner takes it all”. To have one top drawer vocalist in a band is something but to have two stunning girls both capable of heart wrenching vocal delivery really leaves me speechless.

This lady has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard, and at 74 years of age I have heard many. She has such range and power. She can sing anything from soft songs like "I Have A drean to this powherhouse of a song. Frida is a gifted lady. God gave her this voice and she uses it well. Bless her.

I highly recommend reading: ABBA: Bright Lights Dark Shadows By Carl Magnus Palm and ABBA: The Complete Recording Sessions also by Carl. Benny & Bjorn opened up the ABBA recordings for Carl. The only person in the world that has heard the ABBA recordings. Carl is the world's leading ABBA historian. Regarding the vocal abilities of the girls. That is in the book. Both great, but Frida's vocal abilities get lots of attention. She first got noticed in grade school. Benny and Bjorn leaned heavily on her in studio and particularly in live shows. Frida loved the stage and also a great live singer. Benny, Bjorn and Michael Tretow (ABBA's engineer) considered Frida a master vocalist as well as other musicians that have worked with her. She has total control over her instrument. Always in proper key and on pitch. Kenn sense of pitch. Michael discribes Agnetha voice as "punchy". Michael describes Frida voice as "high-fidelity". Agnetha came to ABBA as a pop studio star, with some stage experience, but very little. She was known as a pop star. First pop song hit, at 18, her own composition. Frida came to ABBA with over 10 years as a pro on stage (58-70's) and TV show gig's (67-71) She had a stellar reputation among musicians since grade school. Swept all the talent hunts. First stage performance in 1956, charity event. Turned pro at 13, 1958. Major Best Vocalist award 1964. National Best Vocalist winner 1967. Agnetha was raised in a loving, middle class family environment. Father was musical performer. Had siblings. Happy childhood. Frida's was a poor, lonely, and a virtual orphan. Taken from Norway by her grandmother at age 2 to Sweden to escape any reprisals for being a "war baby". Frida was the offspring (Nov 1945) of a German soldier and a Norweigan girl. Conceived Feb 1945. Frida was a "war child" that had a lost childhood. Sang as a child to escape her sadness.

Considered one of the very best bass guitar players there ever was. This is ABBA team.

It has all been delayed, cause the making of ABBA avatar concert movie took longer than anticipated. Then came corona. Sooo looking forward to hear new ABBA material, and to hear the girls harmonize again, maybe even Bjørn taking on vocals on one song. Been waiting and NEVER lost hope since 1982. The unison chorus is bliss, because of the technical proficiency of Frida. Frida is the one with the keen ear, large range, diaphragmatic breathing , control, versatility, etc ... Frida always does the heavy lifting in ABBA songs because of her technical proficiency. Bjorn has explained this over the past several years in a tactful manner. The ABBA fan who has a bit of a musical/analytical mind is able to appreciate the technical proficiency of Frida. Agnetha is fine, but does not have Frida's refined skills.

This song has a fantastic blending of the girls voices starting around 2:09. But that incredible ABBA sound not only soars at 2:45 but the overdubbing has their own vocals being backed by themselves singing a different chores while it too is sang in harmony.
