I install, repair and balance tires for a living - and sorry man, but I do not approve of this - However - - If you insist on trying this, please install a quality fastener, such as Moroso 90100 Wheel Rim Screws - You can purchase them in a set of 35... Moroso wheel rim screws are made from Grade 8 steel and have a built-in washer face... They come with a gold iridited finish... Recommended drill bit size is 13/64 (5mm... Note: 5mm is a little small, but only about 0.006") and the underhead length is 0.750" (19mm)... They're also 1/4" diameter, compared to 0.177" on the #9 screws... And I just think that 1-1/2" is way to long for these #9 screws, as you want them firmly planted in the bead of the tire, but not all the way through and into the void of the tire. Be sure to look up their install and torque specs. And once you do - if you need a flat repair from your local tire / service center - be prepared to be either turned down completely - - charged extra - - and they can actually be in violation of local / state laws if they repair this for you. AND... It'll be an absolute bitch to try and lines those holes up again, so they don't leak... In other words - be prepared to fix/patch your own tires and trace down / eliminate any/all bead leakage. EDIT - I still gave you guys a 'Thumbs-Up' though, because other than disagreeing with you on this, you guys basically ROCK! Thanks for not only sharing this content, but asking for feedback as well. 👊

Absolutely! We appreciate the feedback I actually had no idea those shops could be in violation of local/state laws if they helped! 🤘

We used sheet metal screws on off-road motorcycle and ATV rims in the 70's and 80's. One motorcycle rim company had rims with steel pins that were pressed into the inside of the rim, that were 1/8". They were for 7-10psi and to keep the tire from spinning on the rim. The motorcycles were running tubes and ATV's were tubeless. Didn't work with 0 psi because the screws and pins didn't hold the tire against the rim, it needs some air pressure.

Really like this conversational non scripted posting that didn't scream advertisement and make you look like a salesperson all the time. Sincere thanks for posting and looking for more of this type of content...used deck and drywall screws to temporarily fix a punctures on the trail a few times, yet never for beadlock.

I did that back in the early 80’s when I was 1/4 mile racing my mustang with full drag slicks on it. They worked great. No issues what so ever.

Tappers are great but in this applications you need STAINLESS STEEL!!!!!!

I think a good bead of rtv or Yamabond on the screws would be a good idea for sealing and help keep them from backing out.

I made beadlocks for my portal axel buggy back in the 1970's because I could not find anything to buy commercially that would work (at that time.) I drilled the wheels with the tires mounted for 1/4 inch wood screws. I ran almost flat pressure, typically 4 to 5 lbs. Before the wood screws my buggy would easily spin the tires on wheels and they would also pop off the rims entirely. I experimented using several different kinds of glue before I went to using screws, but glue was a very bad idea. Tire shops hated the glue.

Ya, been thinking about doing the Moroso kit from Summit Racing for my 39.5 boggers. Just got some used Staun internal beadlocks and new Coyote tubes for my pit bulls. Can’t wait to see how they work. Thanks for looking into less expensive beadlocks🏁

You should have done some hard cornering to see if you could have rolled the bead off

Pretty interesting result. I look forward to further testing. That flat tire almost looked like a tank tread, lol.

Appreciate the support! Now that you said it I went back and looked and it does kind of look like tank tread marks 😂

Mmm, the Icon wheels are quite different just because you ain't making the screw go throug the tire. This ones impressed me, I thought they would just snap and destroy the tire. I think a better approach would be using those same rubber washers and some screws with better steel in them. It makes me wonder if it can be used in a baja bug proyect (vw bug). With a set of cheap steel wheels and cheap tires to play with it can get quite interesting (only off-road use, nothing in a public street).

Those roofing screws are actually rated at 75kilograms each so with that many taking the strain there pretty strong.

Did you guys ever take this to the off-road park to try debeading them for reals?

What tires were on the Jeep when it originally pulled into the shop-before you swapped on the DIY beadlocks?

Stainless steel screws.

I would be afraid the holes in the tire would eventually/quickly wallow out.

There’s no shot it holds pavement psi for more than a couple hours… right?
@Trump98529 күн бұрын
You just run inner tubes. Make sure the screws you use are short enough that they don't go all the way through the bead so they can't puncture the tube and it will hold air perfectly fine.

What about trying to replicate what Icon have done? For example, if Icon sold only their studs that they put in their wheels by themselves I'd be tempted to try and put them in my aluminum wheels to make a set of beadlocks. I imagine Icon probably doesn't want to sell those studs by themselves because they want you to buy their whole setup and there could be some liability issues if they sell the studs and somebody screwed up a wheel and get somebody killed. That doesn't mean that I don't want to replicate what they've done on my own aluminum wheel and tire.

The spiel from 9:15 to 10:30 was such bullspit it immediately discredited everything else said in the video. How clueless are you 😂 there is literally no truth to any of that
