Hello all, On my DIY mountain bike build the 1000w BLDC Motor Phase Wires were getting hot with the 72v 60 amp controller. Because I want to install a better, smoother and slightly more powerful Sabvoton 72v 80 amp controller, I need to upgrade the original 18GA Phase Wires with heavier 14GA wires that can handle almost twice the current. This motor mod is working great and the phase wires are now getting only slightly warm and not getting hot! Yahoo baby! The planned 80 amp controller is giving me a hassle so I decided to install my 72v 200 amp controller. This is a super powerful controller I bought for another project and certainly too much power for this very light mountain bike. Watch and see! 😂 Love to all Stay Golden

What a Monster you created you Crazy Racer -X-Man perfect for the Halloweenie events (and beyond). But your going to be feeling that test-run for a few days/weeks. Buddy, Hope your Recovery goes smoothly, and it acts as a reminder that were not as young as we once were, (things take longer to heal). With that being said... It's alive... Alive... ALIVE I say!

Yeah me2.. Butt was bruised and elbow scraped.. not too bad. Yeah, that 72v 200 amp controller is wildly powerful. Surprised me 100% 😆 This bike is now running a 72v 60 amp controller and is a joy and ride. The 1000w motor at 72v 60a definitely gets slightly warm but not hot, and the phase wires never get even slightly warm. Success! Thank you.. stay Electrified! Peace Prospector Tripp

Hello Ned, I’m good as far as the crash. I went riding around yesterday on this Light Rocket.. of course, after I programmed it for 1/2 power!☝️ It’s still too fast and crazy scary for my taste. I’m changing out the controller for a more reasonable amount of power. Thanks Nev, Peace Prospector Tripp

The weak point in the 200 amp setup is that at full power , the field coils will fail during sustained operation in hot weather . I have seen a 14000 watt e - bike overheat on a freeway during a hill climb in the mountains from the car . The motor was smoking and the rider wasn't aware of it . A bit like overloading an electric drill .
@ProspectorTripp Жыл бұрын
That 200a controller is coming off and a more sensible 7280 going on. The motor may smoke anyway? We will have to see a bit later. Thanks much Peace Prospector Tripp

Yes sir, Lance is a co-contributor to the wheelie crash 😂 we did everything with gas back then.. but it’s still the same concept. Make it light and fast! Glad you have a ebike too. As far as upgrading. Just upgrading the speed controller to a more powerful one is fairly easy and a huge improvement. You can check your speed controller and see what amperage it is and the physical size. There are many available on eBay and Amazon that are fairly inexpensive. Less than $100 As always read and study so you are making a good correct choice. Thanks for commenting! Tell Buzzy (Lance) thanks! Peace Prospector Tripp

Thanks for sharing i,ll custom build those Qs 205mm motors to match the same power as the mighty 272mm now that I can see the shaft can be Bored out a bit to accept bigger phase wires in my case I need 7-6 awg to handel above 300 Amps I noticed in the last 20 years that green phase wire lamination in those Outrunner / Hub motors from Qs always melt in time Nevertheless i,ll add forced air colling to the motor cases to cool the entire Stator ✌

Wow.. 6ga, that’s huge phase wires. This motor I smoked.. 😂 that sometimes happens 💨 when testing the limits of reality ☝️ I replaced with another 1000 watt motor that I am limiting my power to 1400 watts. The motor housing is too small and cannot dissipate the heat losses effectively . The unit would need to be larger in the same way that high current transformers are larger than low current (Amps) ones . My Yamaha FZR motorcycle is faster than your e - bike .

Even at 72v 50 amps Will hate that hub motor up . And copper coils will become oxidised Then well lose a lot of performance. I upgraded a 1000w 48v hub motor last month. (1) bigger wires (2) cooling ferro fluid (3) cooling radiators fins And it's still gets too hot for my liking. It's only using a controller 72v 50A. I can only imagine with double the amps and No cooling mods. It will definitely burn out

Judas Priest😳😳😳 you should hook up your speed controller from your sluice to that thing, so you can dial it down a bit….😂😂 seriously though if you could give it half Power for starting out you’d have something there (until the front wheel bearing melts from doing Mach 10 with your hair on fire…) that gave me flashbacks to 1999 we drove to Phoenix to buy my 13 year old a dirt bike (a used Yamaha yz 250) I took it out on the highway behind my in-laws to give it a test spin ran down the road and back and turned it around and thought… ok let’s see what this thing can do shifted from first to second about 1/3 throttle hit third and punched it…. Had no idea it had a power band…. Up on one wheel I went and as the front wheel lifted off it automatically made me twist and increase the throttle.. just before I flipped over backward I twisted the throttle back down and pulled over to the side of the road and replayed the part where my life flashed in front of my eyes…. I drove it back to the house and the wife said what do you think I told her it’s to much power for him up in the mountains with trees…. He made it about 3 weeks before breaking his ankle… glad you ok and you caught it on film if condense that down and make it into a short you may get a million views out of it 🤩(leave in the safety gear bit for sure) thanks for sharing was a cool and informative build see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼

Most of us have done a few things that have helped us understand how the physics of blacktop is, in fact very Hard material! 😂 The little mountain bike that “Could” is going to get its 80 amp controller. I got some additional documentation from Sabvoton so hopefully it works. I was definitely surprised buy the power. I just finished upgrading the 72v battery and wow.. the wheelie crash proves it worked! 😂 The huge wire motor modification with the high current battery all being pumped into the motor coils with that 200 amp controller really made this one too fast. The planned 80 amp controller is still a lot of power. Hope it works! Thanks for your terrific story! That’s Golden 48 Peace Prospector Tripp
