It's hard to beat listening to some obsolete sounding disco music when painting an outboard motor. I do my best work under those conditions. Seriously, thanks for a great "how-to" video. Much appreciated.

Did you have to add any thinner to the rustoelum paint to spray it in a gun?
@DKUSTOMSGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
No, I didn’t use any paint thinners.

How many different rustoileum paints are there? Which one should I buy if I plan on doing the same job you did in this video?
@DKUSTOMSGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
Just a regular rust oleum paint. It located right by spray paint rust oleums.

Nice work! I plan to do my '61 Johnson 5.5 this summer. Did you have any concerns or issues related to spraying the power washer on the engine power head itself? I was a little nervous watching as I was unaware this was alright to do.

James Henry hi, just put anything into carburetor or just avoid to spray there. I didn’t spray where it suck the air. Before starting engine, just spin it slowly. If some water got into cylinder, it will go out thru open exhaust valve. I always pressure wash motors and never had an issues.

Nice job! What grit sandpaper did you use to scuff the outboard for painting?
@DKUSTOMSGARAGE5 жыл бұрын
K B hi, 220 sand paper and then rustoilum paint from homedepot. Paint thick so covers deep scratches

D- KUSTOMS GARAGE Awesome! Thank you for the quick response. My Johnson 150 needs repainting. I have to clean off the oil/fuel mix black residue and then repaint. Your video helps.

K B thanks. Just follow how I did. Honestly it took me with video like 4-5hrs. Sanding takes the most time.

What kind of paint did you use?

You used rust-oleum paint in your paint gun? Why not just use spray cans? How and what did you mix the paint with?
@DKUSTOMSGARAGE3 жыл бұрын
With a gun it’s a thicker coat and more glossy with a much less paint runs!! Just a regular rust oleum with a little bit of a paint thinner. Works best then a pray cans and way way cheaper.
