Perfect tutorial. I changed the dimensions to 20"x 48" and made myself an ironing table, with a shelf on the bottom to hold my extra sewing machine. My sewing room is small and I was able to custom fit it to my space. It turned out awesome! Thanks for making it so simple to make!

I like the basic idea. Am adapting this plan with my own demensions and no 2 X 4s. I bought wood turned legs, 1X4 for frame and bracing and two 1X6s for the top (comes out to 11-inch width table top). No bottom shelf. My table is narrower, but it's going in a hallway.

I like the idea of using Cedar fence boards for the top & bottom shelf. The only thing I would change about this project is that I would skim off the rounded edges of the 2X4's on the table saw for a better look.
@scraplifetrashtocash45515 жыл бұрын
Same here. I would use my table saw and trim the rounded edges off and I would use glue too' were the joints go together. Makes a stronger table to do that.
@elizabeththrockmorton93184 жыл бұрын
I made it, turned out wonderfully! I was hoping I could add pictures here. I used the 10" piece as the measuring stick for the bottom shelf - my bottom shelf was 10" off the ground to ensure that I could vacuum under it. Also, I cut diagonally inward on the two front legs at the very bottom to add some detail and sophistication.

Hey, where did you get your wood from? Are your top boards trimmed to make flat edges before you put them together? Thanks!
@lynjermey64233 жыл бұрын
@@vrne2906 I got the wood from BnQ, I used 2 by 4 for the legs and rails and bought an 18 inch planed piece for the top. I used 3 by 2 for the lower shelf. I would have planed the boards if I'd had to join them for the top though.

I`m in the retirement stage of my life. I do a bit of cabinetry, make musical instruments, and carry out woodturning in my little shop. I stumbled upon this woodworking book, “Bαzοmο Tdy Plαn” (Google it), and acquired it despite the fact that I own several woodworking books in the house. The comprehensiveness of this book is astonishing. Every topic of the guide is covered well. .

I’m mapping out the cut list and trying to see how you got these cuts without only 4 boards. Maybe my math is off

I really liked how this console table looked, which made me want to try it. I got everything I needed...but now I just realized the bottom fence boards need to be cut out around the legs. I don’t know how I didn’t notice that before. I don’t have a jig saw. Im just kind of upset because I’ve spent well over $20. But at this point I don’t even care anymore. I’ll just figure it out.
@jameshermes18452 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest a cheap (under $20) Oscillating Multi-Tool to cut the notches. You'll find it is a very handy tool to have for many other uses also.

Do you have a video explaining how you cut the bottom fence board to fit the bottom of the table?
@extramile6693 жыл бұрын
Use a piece of scrap two by four hold it up to the edge of the wood where you need the angle or grooves cut to go around the legs draw yourself a line around that scrap piece of two by four and then just cut it with a table saw a jigsaw hand saw etc but much easier than you think but just use a piece of scrap two by four as your guide once you cut that piece I will fit right in place perfectly on each side make sure u cut the bottom part yo size before tracing your legs with your 2×4 and it will fit perfectly! Good luck have fun

Very nice how far do you make those screw jig holes & what size screw so it doesn't pop out other side also did you do the same for shelves underneath ? lovely
@vintagerevivalshomegardend23516 жыл бұрын
Hi Toby, The Kreg Jig has information on how to set the jig and what size screws to use to join different sizes of materials. After a while, you can pretty much guess what size to use. Generally, if the second piece of wood being joined is 1", you use 1" screws. If 1.5", use 1.5" screws. Yes, we did the same for the shelves. It's nice when there aren't any visible screw heads. Hope this helps. Dan

How did you attach the top boards to the frame on top and the bottom shelf? Did you use screws from the top down into the frame or use some kind of "L" brackets underneath?
@vintagerevivalshomegardend23516 жыл бұрын
Hello, we used screws from the top down. We would normally use Kreg Jig screws from the underneath up into the top. But when using this reclaimed cedar, the cedar isn't dense enough to hold. If we used a pine top, we would definitely Kreg from the underside up. Hope this helps.

How did you add the cedar fence boards on top? I couldn't tell if there were screws screwed in or not? If you did screw them in, where would you suggest putting the screws?
@vintagerevivalshomegardend23516 жыл бұрын
Hi Amber, just put a few screws along the 2x4's that support the cedar boards. It's not really critical how many just enough to hold them in place. Thanks for watching/commenting. Best, Dan
@da1nonlydstreet5 жыл бұрын
I'm going to make my attempt at this tonight. I've already got the fence wood, the 2x4's, the kreg jig, and some standard #10 x 1-1/4" wood screws. Does it make a big difference using the jig screws to attach the 2x4's? Also, when lengths are the top and bottom surfaces? Thanks for your video and take care.

Hey Joshua, made that video couple years ago so don’t have the sizes off hand. Thought gave those in first few minutes? But, really starts with the size of the top you want. Then, the base is made approx 1” smaller on each side. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. Dan

How far is the bottom shelf from the ground?
@vintagerevivalshomegardend23516 жыл бұрын
Hi Drawlings, I don't remember exactly on this one. It depends a lot on what is going on the bottom shelf. And, nothing says you can't have two shelves. In this case we would normally have the bottom shelf surfave approx 10" up from the ground. Hope that helps. Dan

What stain did you use ? Nice tones.
@vintagerevivalshomegardend23517 жыл бұрын
Hello, The way you see that one is all natural. The reclaimed cedar fence boards came like that. I did stain it later and used a dark stain called Jacobean. You can get it from HD. Another one I use if I want a bit lighter color is special walnut. Thanks for watching. Dan
Pocket holes. Not Kreg jig holes. Plenty of alternatives to Kreg that are priced better.

You said 6's but you mentioned 6-10 inch pieces right? Also, I wish you showed us they way you cut and secure the fence boards to the frame and what type of screws?
@elizabeththrockmorton93184 жыл бұрын
He probably just measured the dimensions for the bottom shelf and cut the boards to fit, and he probably used the kreg jig again to secure. You could do whatever dimensions you want for the top.

@vintagerevivalshomegardend23516 жыл бұрын
Hi Travis. You can but the Jig gives you a perfect pocket hole and matched with the Kreg screws. It just goes together so nice and tight. You can buy a portable jig at home depot. They cost about $10. You can usually find them near where the sanders and sandpaper. Take a few minutes to watch the official kreg jig videos to get some info on getting started. Thanks, Dan

Hey again, yes it can. The one I use is a Kreg Jig K4. The one I'm referring to is called the Kreg Jig Mini. You just have to move it to drill another hole.
