There is a filter inside the pan. The primary/main filter is in the pan and that's the one you are supposed to change periodically. This filter is just the secondary filter which is only supposed to filter out anything the primary filter may have missed. Honda recommends not replacing it unless it is clogged or leaking.

Bro: thanks for the hot tip. after 10 months i finally got the cvt transmission filter. There is another issue with these 4-cylinder dream works engines they burn oil. i have to add oil after every gas fill up but otherwise i get 35 mpg in the fwy much better than a BEnz. There are lots of u-tubers who are experiencing this troubling oil consumption issue.

Honda transmission filters (actually there are 2 of them) are not designed to be changed on a regular basis and it is not in any maintenance schedule. Its just a fluid change. The filters are designed for the mechanic to inspect if there is a transmission failure. It aids in the mechanics diagnosis. Can you change them, yes. Do you have to, no. Is it necessary, Honda doesn't say to which is why they dont keep them in stock.

@@TraxxasRustler97 are you sure they actually changed it, $70 is only 10-20 more then the fluid itself cost to buy (4-5 quarts). Sounds to me like they might be "giving you a deal" then not servicing it in return. Dealers typically charge at least $150-$200 for a trans fluid swap. No dealer charges $70 and actually does that... heck an oil change is $70 now at all the honda dealers. My friend get a local mechanic to check the fluid to make sure they actually changed it.... that's sketchy.

Honestly I've not experienced this issue but others online state that it is normal for a CVT to make some noise. I would suggest Reving up the engine while in Park or Neutral and see if you hear the same noise to see if it is actually the transmission. My friend who owns this Accord had a loud whine from under the hood and we found out the bearings in the alternator and Belt tensioner pulley went bad. Potentially could be the same issue you are having.

@@MobileCarMechanic Hi, this is an excellent video and earned a sub from me. I've got ~165k on my '14 Accord now and is on the original transmission filter still as nowhere does Honda mention anything about the transmission filter, and this is good info on how to change it out. I'll go ahead and change mine out when it hits 200k - would be a good to see how the filter has held up. Appreciate the detailed two person video showing how to tackle various bolts and their locations as the job progresses. Thank you also for providing the p/n's for all the replacement components as well. Also, do have to mention that Honda does not state the fluid is lifetime for the 9th gen Accords ('13 - '17). The Maintenance Minder will throw code 3 when it's due. The manual however states to change the fluid every 25k in severe conditions - towing, mountainous driving, etc where the transmission sees higher temperatures.

My pax side axel snapped in low speed, now my CVT (2013 accord) won't engage and makes a horrible sound. Am I right that the snapping axel damaged the tranny? I can spin the axel by hand even while in Park.
@MobileCarMechanic
@MobileCarMechanic Жыл бұрын
When I purchased the Honda Civic on this channel the axle had popped out of the transmission on the driver side. When I shifted in drive the speedometer would increase the speed showing that it’s driving even though it was not moving anywhere. Then when I put in park I’d hear a loud noise. That was the parking paw trying to lock the gears to prevent the car from moving. This may be happening to you and installing a new axle should fix the issue. When I inserted the axle everything was good and working normally with no damage. Replace the axle and let us know. Cheers!

I would check your serpentine belt. It may need to be replaced. You can remove the belt and see if the noise goes away. Also check your pulleys to see if they squeal when you spin them. Before we replaced the belt on this accord we replaced the alternator and idler pulley due to a loud squeal that wouldn’t go away.

Is there a check engine light on? Sounds like you may have a slight misfire from either plugs or a leaking valve cover gasket. I didn’t bother trying. It may be possible but the working room is very limited. Especially how close the top of the cooler is to the bottom of the battery tray. Then on top of that you have to use a pick to pull out the filter. You will most likely be working from the bottom of the car in which you’ll probably get doused in fluid. I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth honestly.

Hi I got there check engine light codes onymy 2015 Honda accord p0717, p0796, p0717 is my transmission going to fail I have 95,000 miles on it I have never changed fluid on transmission and my mechanic says don't change now it's too late is he right
@MobileCarMechanic
@MobileCarMechanic Жыл бұрын
The P0717 states there is an issue with Input Shaft Speed sensor which would affect shift quality. Do you get a speed reading in your gauges? if not you may want to look at the harness/connector or replace the sensor. the other code states there is an issue with a Pressure Control solenoid C which could be cleaned or replaced. But I'd check the speed sensor first. Rule of thumb when it comes to transmission fluid is if its never been changed you don't change it because it could cause issues. I changed the transmission fluid on this car in the 100k+ mark. No issues so far and the owner of the car has already put 6k on it already without issue.

Honda does not recommend changing the CVT filter unless it it leaking, clogged or damaged. If you are going to change any filter, the one on the bottom of the CVT in the oil pan should be changed. This one is just a secondary filter which is intended to filter whatever the primary filter does not. Changing this filter, especially by itself is not useful
