Thank you for this video. You saved me $750. You didn't have to completely disassemble the radio. Just take off the metal casing with all the glue, duck tape the top part of the radio to the bottom, take out the 6 screws, and take out the screen. Also, for others watching, when I put in the new screen, I was still getting the ghost touches. I turned off the car for 30 minutes, allowing the uconnect to soft reset, and the ghost touches were gone. Thanks again sir! Oh, one more tip, use goo gone for the glue.

I really appreciate this video. I'm replacing my screen right now and your video is a big help. One thing, though, for anyone about to attempt this replacement: WEAR GLOVES! My screen was delaminated more than the one in the video and that adhesive gets EVERYWHERE and it's really hard to get off. It would've been nice if you showed, or even said, how you dealt with the adhesive, instead of just saying, "I cleaned it up." I'm using a paper towel and just kinda wiping the worst of it off. It's not working very well, so if anyone has a better idea... *update* I ended up using a microfiber cloth, which left less fuzz behind than the paper towel. And when it came to putting it all back together... First of all, I did it on my desk rather than on a car seat, which makes the whole process much easier. Then I got my Wi-Fi antennas plugged back in, set all of my stand-offs in place, and carefully lowered the cover (with the circuit board) onto the front part. I held onto the black port on the back to keep the circuit board and the metal frame together while I lowered it. Lastly, I very carefully slid each screw into its hole and once they were all in place and I was sure everything was lined up, I tightened them one by one. Great success!

Thank you for the feedback. We also struggled with getting it off and tried random cleaners and such and didn’t think anyone wanted to watch the struggle as we try to get straight to the point. Also, I tried unplugging everything in the back a while ago just to see if that would solve the black screen, but shortly after the auto start stop service light came on and aux battery had to be replaced. was that just coincidental timing or was it because the display was unplugged?

You shouldn't need to do anything additional to replacing the screen. It appears that it is coincidental that the AUX battery had gone bad as removing the radio wouldn't have interfered.

Hi, I have a 2018 Jeep Compass; my screen has had lines running through it since the summer. After the car cooled off, it would be fine; touch is still responsive. Now it is winter where I live, and when I turn my car on the screen has lines on it, and while the touch screen is still responsive you can't see anything until about 30 minutes of the car being on, everything works normally again even the backup camera. Would this be a screen issue or a wire issue? I read somewhere online that it could be a a wire but I have no idea what wires to order just incase. I don't want to open it up and not be able to fix the issue Thanks in advance
@MobileCarMechanic Жыл бұрын
It sounds like the cold is affecting the connection to the screen and when it warms up then the connection is restored. I don’t know what wires it could be, but it would be worth taking apart. Disconnecting and reconnecting wires to see if that restores the connection. It’s a possibility that there could be some corrosion on the pins of the wires/cables and may be a good idea to clean them with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.

@MobileCarMechanic Жыл бұрын
The glue you see is the display adhesive that secures the digitizer to the lcd. It helps seal the gap between the glass and the display for better optical clarity. It’s not supposed to turn into goo but given how hot it can get in a car when it’s extremely hot that will definitely weaken the adhesive and melt it.

I have a 2017 Compass Trailhawk with an 8.4” screen. It’s given me issues for years and I have finally had it. The lcd acts like there is a loose connection or solder. When I hit a bump it’s fine but instantly has lines. I have sat on replacing it since it worked but had lines. Now I want to replace it and have had a hell of a time finding the right part. Must 2017’s had the smaller 7” screen and the dealership says $1400 for a new unit plus labor. I think not! Hopefully this video helps. I’m waiting on a new lcd now! Fingers crossed b/c I have had it!

Let us know if it corrects the issue. This is my first experience with this unit and it’s issues. I know the 7 inch displays typically come on the non navigation units. Cheers!

@@Gavin_G01 Nope. Bought a new screen, have not put it in yet!

You could use a little di-electric grease at the base of the stands offs thatll essentially keep them "glued" in place and you wint need to worry about them consistently falling over

Thanks for the tip. Cheers!

✅ No need to remove all the boards and cables. It is enough to unscrew the five screws on the back side and remove the frame from the display. That's it! you can already change it easily.

Thanks for the info, Had a hunch but most likely separated it at the wrong spot.

Came here because dealer just quoted me $800 to replace the whole unit that’s not including labor

That’s way to much. Hopefully my video can help.

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely created more work for myself with part of the disassembly process when it came to the circuit board. Otherwise I would have to disagree for the remaining steps.
