Yes of course. Anyone who says other wise is an idiot. "Won't fit in the clearances" stupidest thing I've ever heard. 0w-16 at a cool morning temp of 60 degrees Fahrenheit has a viscosity of around 70-80cst. That's 3-4 times thicker than 20w-50 at operating temperature which is around 19 cst. The engine wear is from start up not warm up. You have no oil for a split second at start up and it shows. You hear a slight rattle for a split second but after that the engine is smooth and quiet. If thicker oil did hurt then why doesn't the engine ruin itself when it's when warming up. Instead the engine sounds bad once the oil is hot and thinned out drastically for eeking out mpg's. Also the vvt argument is completely invalid. Vvt solenoids do use oil pressure but they also use a feedback sensor to readjust back and fourth based on constantly variating oil viscosity since every single degree Fahrenheit of oil temperature has a different viscosity. Uneducated individuals think motor oil has the exact same viscosity no matter what temperature or worse yet think oil gets thicker since they think it goes from 0 to 16. The clearance argument is also invalid. Engines nowadays employ low tension rings, bottom end, timing and valve train components to reduce friction and internal resistance so the clearances are technically less tight then before which is why engines are prone to oil burning and accelerated wear. All for maximum fuel economy which isn't much.
@co10033 жыл бұрын
@@elihernandez330 3-4 times thicker?Lol! No...The higher the number the thicker oil gets... The manufacturer recommends 0w-16. Toyota says you can use 0w-20, but to switch back to 0w-16 at the next oil change. I am going to go out on a limb and say they know what they’re talking about.

@@co1003 learn to read. 0w-16 at 60f has a viscosity of 70-80cst. At 212f it's around 7.5. 20w-50 has a viscosity at 19cst at operating temp. A 0w-40 like the Castrol edge 0w-40 I use has an operating temp of around 13cst. And of course toyota knows what they're saying. The new 2021 yaris hybrid recommends 0w-8, 0w-16, 0/5w-20, and 0/5/10-w30 in the owners manual while the current gen 2016+ Prius recommends 16, 20, 30, and 40 grade oil. A slightly thicker oil protects more Toyota admitted themselves, I'll try to find the article from the interview with a toyota engine engineer. Going from 30 to 20 weight resulted in 0.7-0.8% more mpgs but 8-11% more wear. But the engine will still live long enough for the warranty which is nothing so they don't care if the engine behind burning oil after the warranty. Not legally their problem.

@@fuelairspark2061 what's your oil cap say?
@richcombs48052 жыл бұрын
@@HT-kv3nt there are always acceptable deviations. Where I work we sell our ISOVG32 while our German maker sister co uses 46. If we sell a machine into a 50C ambient with an air cooled oil cooler, going to 46 is not entirely out of the question. The cap is to prevent liability and lawsuits and emissions.

You're obviously the rookie here if you believe the car can only use the grade of oil that's printed on the sticker.

you miss to measure the oil

U may have voided your warranty. U are required to use 0W-16 not 0W-20 !!! 2019 Camrys take 0W-16 and its printed on the oil cap on top of the engine...

The car can take either 16 or 20. It's not a big deal.
@sunderjirahim3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-sq7cv, actually according to the owners manual 0W16 is required. If you use 0W20, you should change it to 0W16 as sook as possible.

@@sunderjirahim I know what the owners manual says. You can use 20. It's not a big deal.

@@JohnSmith-sq7cv, of course you can do what you want, but I don’t want my warranty voided because I used the wrong viscosity oil.

@@sunderjirahim Ok. So your a perfect example of someone who has absolutely no idea what they are talking about but continues to post nonsense as if they do. You will not void your warranty. Why don't you explain the substantial difference your aware of between 0W-16 and 0W-20 oil for everyone on KZbin who will read these posts. After your done reading through Google search results, I'll be more than happy to reply to your likely inaccurate explination and correct you. Until then, please stop posting nonsense. Take care.

That oil filter was on too tight, sadly many DIYers over tighten their oil filters.

Sadly, that oil filter was put on my Toyota by the factory and not by a DIYer.

Been using K&N for my older toyota echo then switch to NAPA gold oil filter (cheaper)....I've seen videos on what's inside of it compared to other brands. But with the echo I changed oil every 4000miles so going with NAPA gold was a good choice.

@@fuelairspark2061 I’ve been using that Fram Tough Guard filter for years on my Honda Civic. I’ve had no problems with it, lab results come back fine, and the old filter cut open show the filter to be well intact after 8K mile OCI. The Honda and Subaru OEM filters are Fram TG equivalents. Change your oil at regular reasonable intervals, don’t hot-rod it, you’ll be fine.
